IKD reserves the right to add, delete or modify categories in case of low registration in some events Transportation: Transportation to and from Pearson International Airport to the Ryerson

University is available by bus, limousine, taxi, or car rental. The Airport Express Bus service picks up outside the Arrivals Level of all terminals approximately every 20-30 minutes. Travel time is 30-40 minutes. The fare is approximately $20 one way. The limousine or taxi fare is approximately $60.00 for up to three people. All major car rental agencies are available at the airport. Participants are responsible for their own transportation costs.

Tournament Rules

Junior and Teen Qualification:

Junior and teen girls and boys must be ranked brown and black belt; their ages at the time of the World Cup must be 8 to 19 years.

Junior and Teen individual participation is unlimited.

No mixed teams (combination of girls and boys).

Junior and Teen Individual Kata and Team Kata Rules:

All individual elimination matches shall be judged by the flag system, until the final eight competitors, using the following Shitei Kata: Heian Nidan, Heian Sandan, Heian Yondan, Heian Godan, and Tekki Shodan.

The final eight contestants shall be judged by the point system with the contestant’s choice of any kata other than elimination (Shitei) kata.

In case of a tie in individual or team kata, a different kata shall be performed. If the rematch is tied again, the lowest score shall be added. If the result is still tied, the highest score shall be added. If deadlocked, a third different kata shall be performed.

Individuals and teams are free to choose any tokui kata without restriction.

In the team kata final, the same kata used in the elimination may be performed again. Junior Individual Kumite Rules:

All contestants must have their own mouth guards, red and blue WKF/IKD approved kumite gloves, and red and blue belts. (Kits available at camp)

Kumite for junior girls and boys aged 8 and 9, 10 and 11, 12 and 13, shall be jiyu ippon kumite (semi free sparring) until the final eight contestants. Thereafter, they shall perform jiyu kumite (free sparring).

In jiyu ippon kumite, red side shall attack first, as per page 20 of the IKD Kyu and Dan Examination Syllabus Manual. Attacks are: jodan, chudan, chudan mae-geri, kekomi and mawashi-geri. Favourite side for each attack, however, one announced, attacker cannot change side.

Defender shall use blocking techniques prior to counter attacking. Any counter attack is acceptable as long as it has the three elements of kime – power (includes correct stance and posture), speed, sharpness, and ki.

Once distance is established, the attack must begin. At the end of each attack, the attacker must hold their position. No evading or blocking counter attacks.

No deceptive pre-actions are allowed (no feinting).

In the case of a tie, they shall have a rematch. Judges shall observe the three elements of kime.

For teen girls and boys aged 14-15, 16-17, and 18-19 all matches are jiyu kumite.

There are no junior team kumite events. Adult and Master Qualification:

Women and men must be ranked IKD black belt; their ages at the time of the competition must be as determined in the event categories.

Adult and Master individual kata and kumite participation is limited to eight women and eight men per region/organization.

Team kata is limited to one three-female team, and one three-male team. No mixed teams.

Women and men’s kumite teams shall consist of three men and three women.

There are no master’s 50 to 59 team kumite events.

Adult and Master Individual Kata and Team Kata Rules:

Same rules as junior and teen individual kata and team kata, except:

The semi-final sixteen contestants shall be judged by the flag system, until the final eight competitors, using the following Sentei Kata: Bassai-dai, Kanku-dai, Enpi, and Jion.

Adult Individual Kumite and Team Kumite Rules:

All contestants must have their own mouth guards, red and blue WKF/IKD approved kumite gloves, and red and blue belts. (Kits available at camp)

All adult kumite events are jiyu kumite. Team Kata Bunkai Rules:

Three person teams are free to choose any kata.

All bunkai must adhere to the traditional kata, which must flow from movement to movement. For the defender, free stances between movements are not allowed.

Slight deviations and in-between techniques are acceptable and are limited to about 10% of the kata movements.

Only one person shall defend against the other two attackers throughout the bunkai (not like WKF rules).

There shall be a slight pause whenever a todome waza (finishing blow technique) is executed.

Bunkai is judged the same as team kata. Team Enbu Rules:

Each team member shall take turns defending against the other two attackers.

There is no time limit, except enbu shall not be longer than the time it takes to perform team bunkai.

One may evade attacks, but must follow through with a todome waza before confronting the other attacker.

Members are free to use their own choreography and imagination in enbu, but must use the three elements of karate – correct application of power, speed of technique, and body expansion and contraction, as well as budo spirit.

Enbu is judged the same as team kata and bunkai. Standard Rules:

All contestants must wear a clean, unmarked white karate gi. Their country’s flag shall be placed on the left shoulder sleeve. The left breast is reserved for one’s organization crest.

The gi must be IKD regulation gi with the length of the sleeves falling about midway between the elbow and the wrist. Gi sleeves shall not be rolled up on the outside.

The pants length must fall about midway between the knee and the ankle.

Forearm and/or shin guards, and sweat bands are not allowed.

Jewellery or sharp objects in the hair are not allowed.

Judges’ Rules:

Basically, the tournament rules are an extension of dojo training.

Procedure for jiyu kumite elimination matches: After hikiwake, sakidori ippon (first to score a wazaari or ippon in a two-minute time period) is applied. The referee shall announce “sakidori ippon - - - hajime.”

For the final eight, after hikiwake, sai-shiai is applied (rematch-two minutes and ippon). The referee shall announce “sai-shiai - - - hajime.” If hikiwake again, sakidori ippon is applied. The referee shall announce “sakidori ippon - - - hajime.”

Time is stopped whenever the referee announces “yame”; it shall resume when the referee restarts the match (same as JKA and WKF Rules).

Degrees of Contact: o Slight – verbal caution. A point may or may not be awarded. o Light – keikoku; a point may not be awarded. o Medium - hansoku-chui. A point may not be awarded. o Heavy- hansoku. If a competitor accumulates two team kumite hansoku, they cannot compete

further in any other team kumite events. For example, if a team member receives a hansoku, and the team goes on to win, the whole team can compete again. However, if the same member receives another hansoku, and the team wins again, that member cannot participate in any further team kumite matches.

Bunkai and enbu are judged the same as kata.

All judges are expected to attend the refresher courses at camp.

Judges must meet the requirements as established by the International Karate Daigaku (IKD)

The Chief Judge shall designate the Ring Officials.

‘EVENT’ means the 2012 IKD Shoto Camp I understand that there are risks and dangers inherent in martial arts training and in participating in and/or receiving instruction at the EVENT. Waiver/Release Agreement for Contestants/Participants All participants must complete.

"Event" means the 2012 IKD World Cup The undersigned is aware that there are risks and dangers inherent in participating and receiving instruction at the Event. In consideration of being permitted to participate in the Event, I hereby release and waive any claims against IKD: Ontario Karate College, the and any and all clubs, schools, instructors, members, judges, officials, officers, directors and representatives relating thereto (collectively the "Releases") for any injury or damage which I may suffer while participating and/or receiving instruction at the Event including travel to and from the Event. I understand and agree that this Release will have the effect of releasing, discharging, waiving and forever relinquishing any and all actions, those causes of action that I may have or have had, whether past, present or future, whether now known or unknown and whether anticipated or unanticipated by me, arising out of my participation at the Event. This Release shall be binding upon me, my heirs, successors, administrators, assigns and legal representatives. I assume full responsibility for any and all risk of death or personal injury or property damage, which I may suffer while participating in the Event. I expressly acknowledge and assume any and all risk that my participation in the Event may subject me to personal injury to bodily harm. I confirm that I have no past or present medical condition, injury or other physical or mental restriction which may cause or contribute to personal injury or property damage while participating in the Event and if in case I have such a condition, I agree to forthwith nullify the Releases, as the case may be, and withdraw from the Event. I further agree by signing this Release, I shall indemnify and hold any of the Releases harmless from any and all liability or costs, including legal fees, associated with or arising from my participation at the Event. I understand that if I am signing this Release on behalf of a minor child, I will be giving up the same rights for said minor as I would be giving up if I signed this document on my own behalf. I acknowledge that I have read this Release and that I understand the words and language in it. I sign this Release freely and voluntarily.
