Project House of Prayer (HoPe) A permanent roof for the Verbum Dei mission in Singapore “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4 1st February 2013 Dear Friend/s, Greetings of peace and joy! The Verbum Dei (Word of God) Missionary Fraternity in Singapore needs a permanent house and YOU are invited to help. Who are we? The Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity is a Roman Catholic contemplative-active missionary community. It was founded on 17 January 1963 by Father Jaime Bonet who saw the urgent need to announce the Word of God and to build God’s kingdom through prayer and evangelical activities. The Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity has been in Singapore since 1997 and ministers to youths, young adults, married couples and matured people by giving faith formation with the Word of God, retreats, spiritual direction/counselling and organising mission trips. In addition, the missionaries conduct retreats, confirmation camps and talks for various church groups. Over the past 15 years, the missionaries have lived in at least 5 different rented locations. As breaking of the Word and small community evangelical activities are essential elements for people to live the Word of God, a permanent house will be instrumental to the mission. This is to fulfil the mission of propagating faith in Christ Jesus through rooting deeply in his words. In Singapore, despite the First World label and abundant material gains, there emerges a sharp hunger for God as people search for more in life beyond the material world. Project Details: Fundraising Target:$3.5 million for the purchase of a landed property inclusive of minor renovations. The property will have a large chapel on the ground floor and rooms for small group reflection. Your Contribution The fundraising target of $3.5m is a great challenge to a small community but we hold fast to God’s promise that much grace will be upon this community when we work together to give this mission a permanent presence in Singapore. Acts 4:32-33, “All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all." We believe that the spiritual blessings will be tremendous when we give to Him and especially for working towards making this project HoPe possible. We need 10,000 contributions of $350 or 1,000 contributions of $3,500 or 100 contributions of $35,000 to fulfil this goal. No amount or effort is too small. All contributions will be recorded and acknowledged with a contribution form. Please note that the contributions do not receive a tax benefit. We will post the progress of this effort on the Verbum Dei Singapore web-site (www.verbumdeisingapore.org) and on the Prayer for Living, a weekly publication by the Verbum Dei Fraternity in Singapore. The Archbishop and Senate of Priests in Singapore gave their support when informed of this intent in January 2013. Come, and join us, to build a house for the Word of God in Singapore. Please respond positively by filling up the attached form. With sincere thanks, ___________________ ________________ Sr Maria Jose M Egido Superior Verbum Dei Missionaries Verbum Dei Missionaries 73 Taman Mas Merah Singapore 128195 Tel: 62740251 [email protected]
