Quality & Ethics

GEM Energy are one of only 40 CEC Approved Solar Retailers in Australia. This

prestigious standard is very difficult to obtain and requires regular and random

audits, high quality control and completely transparent sales documentation and

sales processes.

The Approved Solar Retailer program is voluntary and approved by the Australian

Competition and Consumer Commission. The program aims to lift the bar higher

than the minimum requirements set by law and to bring about a better standard

If you are dealing with a solar provider that is not a CEC Approved Solar Retailer,

then there is no guarantee that the information you are provided is realistic or

accurate. Unfortunately, there are no compliance standards outlined by Australian

government bodies which means there is no accountability for untrustworthy

operators and no quality control over dissemination of information.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Reducing CO2 emissions while lowering operating costs provides a compelling

argument socially and commercially. Investing in solar has never been as sound

an investment in Australia as it is today.

Australia has access some of the best purchase rates for solar panels in

the world.

Already low rates further improved by the CEFC subsidising long term,

fixed rate loans.

Commercial solar power has now matured to the point where expertise,

experience and the economy of scale have greatly reduced installation

rates.

The readily available STC and LGC subsidies again add significant financial

incentive.

Rapidly increasing energy rates are having a significant impact on

profitability.

In most parts of Australia irradiance levels are exceeding 1500Wh per m2

and in parts of Northern Australia it can reach 2000Wh per m2. This

translates to yields up to three times greater than parts of Germany.

Investing in solar power is not sacrificing profitability for social responsibility. In

2016 businesses are making significant improvement to environmental outcomes

while at the same time improving competitiveness and efficiency thanks to

technology of solar power.

Operation and Maintenance

Our installation includes a comprehensive operation and maintenance package for the first three years after installation. Typically, this would cost $1500 per year

and includes the following scope of work:

24/7 remote monitoring and diagnostic services from a centralised power plant control centre;

o Monitoring up to string level output to pinpoint location of errors on the power plant

o Advanced monitoring software able to automatically detect errors and problems before they surface

o Quarterly and annual performance reports

Annual detailed system inspection and maintenance;

o Measure string voltage and current at the inverter input

o Health Check and firmware update on inverters

o Inspect cables and switchgear

Client access account for live monitoring of the PV power plant:

Access to live data collected over 10 min intervals; and

Access to archive data.

Our Economic Analysis Methodology

GEM Energy Australia (GEM) calculates the estimated energy yields with software that is recognized and trusted within the Australian Solar Industry. SunWiz, the

independent consulting company, has designed and built this software. Warwick Johnston the owner and director of Sunwiz has recently become the director of

the Clean Energy Council due to his exemplary and ongoing contribution to our industry. We can understand the solar production and the associated energy that is

offset from the grid by generating energy consumption profiles that represent the specific site, as well as solar production curves based on the locality, number of

panels and orientation of the panels. Generally, we are able to obtain energy usage in hourly intervals which enables us to understand the profile precisely,

however in this instance such data was not available. In lieu of energy consumption interval data we estimated the consumption profile using typical profiles for

that type of site, i.e. a typical regional aged care facility, and scaling the profile to match the average daily kWh consumption from the bill for that site. The Sunwiz

calculation tool then generates highly accurate and customized assessments. Ultimately, our Economic Analysis reports shall provide a sound understanding of the

financial returns for the energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives proposed.

Our installations and processes comply with all the standards as set out in the AS4777 of the building code as it refers to the installation of solar power within

Australia. GEM’s Engineering team has a wealth of experience extending to the USA and Europe. Dimitar Iliev, our lead electrical engineer, has also completed his

Master’s Degrees in Solar Power, Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency. His hard work and rare skill set make him one of the most qualified and experienced

engineers in the Australian industry.

GEM’s methodology has been rigorously tested by the market and under this scrutiny we continue to exceed the expectations of our customers large and small.

GEM’s innovative multi-faceted approach again continues to expose our competitors lack of holistic understanding of the dynamic energy efficiency and renewable

In 2016 GEM commissioned the first of its type and largest hybrid solar installation in Australia

GEM have been selected to lead an Agricultural Solar Powered Irrigation Research and Development project. This is a key ARENA initiative and they have

provided $1.8m of Federal Government funding. The project will run until 2020.

GEM was selected by the Department of Defence to commission Solar Power and Solar Hot Water for all Defence Housing constructed in the NT.
