Bravehearts tells us that online safety is one of the biggest issues we face in child protecon and that it is just as important to talk about online personal safety with our children as it is personal safety in the offline world. Here are some quick ps for parents from the Bravehearts website found at hps://bravehearts.org.au/what-we-do/educaon-and- training/for-parents/ Educate yourself: Check out different sites, games, and apps for yourself. The more familiar you are with them, the easier it is for you to talk to your children. Check privacy sengs and recommended age restricons. Talk with your children: have conversaons with them about the importance of safety online and show them how to implement this. You can do this without frightening them. For example, let them know that you have been hearing about online safety and ask what they think the risks are and what they do to keep safe. Teach your children to think about online behaviour: How much should they be sharing online and what happens to informaon once posted or shared? Talk about respecul interacons and responsible behaviour, and encourage them to crically think about what they read and see online (remind them that not everything they read may be true, what they share will always be there, and that not everyone is who they say they are online). Come up with a plan around safety: Talk about ways to not only stay safe but also how to respond to anything that happens that may concern them. Let them know they can talk to you or another adult they can trust. Encourage them to be proacve about keeping their online space safe. Dear Parents and Caregivers

Our year 5 & 6 students had the opportunity to hear about staying safe online. Bravehearts tells us that online safety is one of the biggest issues we face in child protection and that it is just as important to talk about online personal safety with our children as it is personal safety in the offline world. Here are some quick tips for parents from the Bravehearts website found at https://bravehearts.org.au/what-we-do/education-and-training/for-parents/

Educate yourself: Check out different sites, games, and apps for yourself. The more familiar you are with them, the easier it is for you to talk to your children. Check privacy settings and recommended age restrictions. Talk with your children: have conversations with them about the importance of safety online and show them how to implement this. You can do this without frightening them. For example, let them know that you have been hearing about online safety and ask what they think the risks are and what they do to keep safe. Teach your children to think about online behaviour: How much should they be sharing online and what happens to information once posted or shared? Talk about respectful interactions and responsible behaviour, and encourage them to critically think about what they read and see online (remind them that not everything they read may be true, what they share will always be there, and that not everyone is who they say they are online). Come up with a plan around safety: Talk about ways to not only stay safe but also how to respond to anything that happens that may concern them. Let them know they can talk to you or another adult they can trust. Encourage them to be proactive about keeping their online space safe.

GEHAM BEHAVIOUR EXPECTATIONS

Our students are learning to be bucket fillers! The concept of being a bucket filler comes from Carol McCloud’s book Have you Filled a Bucket Today? and stems around the idea that everyone carries around an invisible bucket that throughout the day is being filled by the kind things that you do for others or that others do for you. A bucket filler is someone who is kind, considerate, caring and respectful. When our buckets are full, we feel happy and when our buckets are empty we feel sad. You can help your child be a bucket fillers by praising them when they do something that fills your bucket or someone else’s bucket. You can access a YouTube clip with Carol McCloud reading the book below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEg38zCOMgk&pbjreload=10

CYBER SAFETY TALK On Thursday, Constable Mike and Constable Chris came to talk to the Year Sixes and Year Fives about cyber safety. This presentation included how you should never give out personal details on the internet and how hackers can use this information to find you. Oskar K
