SGP Goal: Secure global environmental benefits through community action

Objectives:

Build awareness and capacity of communities, CBOs, NGOs and CSOs

Promote a positive working relationship between civil society and various stakeholders especially government

Develop and disseminate knowledge to improve sustainable development practice and policy

SGP projects are:

From planning grants of $2,500 to full small grants projects of up to $50,000

Grantees are local CBOs, NGOs, communities – international NGOs can be partners giving support but not grantees

Review and approval of proposals done at country level through the National Steering Committee

Nile Basin: Integrating Local Actions into Regional Framework

SGP Partnership with NTEAP: Practicing Integrated Water Resource Management

Natural complementarities between a regional project and a locally driven program. The Nile Transboundary Environment

Action Project (NTEAP) provides a regional vision and serves as a regional forum for community-based actions, while SGP serves as a delivery mechanism for local actions.

COMPACT: Partnership with UNF/UNESCO for Conservation

COMPACT seeks to demonstrate how community-based initiatives can significantly increase the effectiveness of biodiversity conservation in the co-management of globally significant protected areas by working to improve the livelihoods of local populations
