Welcome

Message from H.R.H. Prince Turki Bin Nasser Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, President, Presidency of Meteorology and Environment, and Chairman, Saudi Environmental Society (SENS)

It is my pleasure to welcome you to GEF 2013, the 4th annual Gulf Environment and Sustainable Development Forum taking place for the first time in Riyadh.

The event’s prestige and popularity continues to grow, with more than 40 speakers converging to Riyadh to share their expertise on a wide range of topics impacting the region and covering the whole spectrum of the environment industry from water and wastewater reuse to energy efficiency.

The soaring expansion of the environment industry, as well as the success of the GEF series, echoes well beyond the frontiers of the Kingdom. Among the 60 companies exhibiting at GEF 2013, more than a third come from outside Saudi Arabia, confirming the fantastic prospects of the environment industry and unmatched business opportunities in the country.

Strategies, innovations and opportunities for waste management, energy efficiency and renewable energy sectors will represent the backbone of the conference. A prestigious line-up of national and international experts will share their hands-on knowledge with a captive audience and encourage the exchange of opinions, ideas and strategies to overcome the current chal-lenges met by the environment industry.

Once again, we are proud to hold GEF 2013 under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulazizz, whose foresight for environmental concerns has made an event on this scale possible.

By participating in GEF 2013, we aim at empowering you with new ideas, tools and strategies that will increase your own and your company’s active contribution to Saudi Arabia’s sustainable development. Let us unite forces at GEF 2013 to work together to preserve the environment for future generations.

Moreover, by gathering senior public officials and private sector decision makers, the forum offers unparalleled networking opportunities for environmental experts and companies eager to establish or strengthen their foothold in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

H.R.H. Prince Turki Bin Nasser Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud’ and the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment’s active support and expertise has proven extremely valuable for the successful development of GEF 2013. In addition, I would like to thank the Riyadh Municipality, UNDP and the IPWA for their support, as well as BME Global Ltd. for producing the forum.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the stakeholders, organisers, participants and visitors for contributing so much of your time and effort to this, the largest and most prestigious environment event in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
