Frame sizes of type G gearboxes are to DIN Standard 42672. The mounting positions (see page 12) B5, V1 and V3 are availa-ble with the following flange dimensions. Additional flange dimensions available upon request.

The ABM disk brakes type EFB and ZFB are electro-mechanical safety brakes that stop the drive quickly and in any operating mode. There can be no compromises when it comes to safety, therefore ABM has deve-loped and manufactured brakes for 60 years. Method of Operation

On the ABM EFB disk brake (single-sided brake) the body of the magnet is cast into the end shield on the B (non-drive) side. The aluminium impeller acts as the brake lining carrier. In de-energized condition a thrustspring supported off the brake end shield presses an axially moving armature plate against the special brakelining on the impeller.The ABM ZFB disk brake (double sided brake) is mounted on the B-side (non-drive) end shield that also actsas one of the friction plates. The alloy brake rotor has a special lining on both sides and is located betweenthe end shield and magnet body with an armature plate. In de-energized condition, springs press the arma-ture plate against the brake rotor and bring it into contact with the end shield.

Classification of disk brakes

Power Supply

The standard power supply is 230 V AC, 50 Hz if connected to a rectifier. Other power supply voltages are available upon request. Through switching the AC or DC circuit, the brake switch off times can be matchedto a specific application, making precise, rapid braking or delayed soft braking possible. Using a quick-exciting rectifier can reduce switching times.

4.2 Installation of ABM Geared MotorsGear motors should only be used in the mounting position for which they were designed. You should avoid restraining the gearbox unit and flanges during installation. Gear output shafts and machine shafts need tobe aligned for proper coupling. Axes of gears and belt pulleys must be parallel with gearbox output shafts.Clutches, gears or belt pulleys must be carefully mounted to the shaft to prevent any damage to the bearing.For mounting, please use the tapped hole on the output shaft. Otherwise heat up your components before mounting. The openings of the cooling fan have to be free at all times, keep clean from dust and other contaminantsto prevent over heating and damage to motors.

4.3 Wiring ABM Geared MotorsJust one cable access is necessary for direct starting of a geared motor. The second opening on the junction box can be closed off with a dummy plug. The motor frame must be grounded using the markedscrew in the junction box. Before installing a geared motor the phase sequence must be checked. With stan-dard connection of phases L1, L2, L3 to clamps U1, V1, W1 the motor output shaft will rotate clockwise.

4.4 Maintenance of ABM Geared MotorsABM Geared Motors are filled and delivered with lubricant. Lifetime of the supplied lubricant is 10,000 ope-rating hours for gear oil and 8,000 operating hours for grease. It is not necessary to add lubricant and over-filling could cause overheating of the gearbox. Type and quantity of lubricant are listed on page 47.

4.6 Selection of Geared MotorsWhen selecting the type of geared motor you must have detailed knowledge of the application. In operationa specific collective load characterizes each machine. Therefore, the operating factor considers the effects onthe machine with sufficient exactness. In selecting a geared motor it is important that the operating factor of the selected gear unit is equal to or lar-ger than the value listed in the chart.

Output SpeedThe stated output speed range considers the smallest gear ratio (max. output speed), the highest possiblereduction ratio and the maximum transmittable torque at an assumed service factor of fB = 1 (smallest out-put speed). To calculate the exact output speed it is necessary to consider the appropriate motor speed (ple-ase see brochure Tech Line 1 "Asynchronous Motors" under the appropriate gear ratio, page10).
