GEA Refrigeration Technologies, part of the internationally active GEA Group, is a syn-

onym for industrial refrigeration technology. Since the end of the 19th century, it has been

our business to cool processes and products, and to control the temperature of goods in

transport. You will find our solutions in the food and beverage sector; in the petrochemi-

cal, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries; on fishing ships; in natural gas liquefaction;

in infrastructure facilities; and in ice factories. We are also at the top with know-how

when it comes to refrigeration at leisure facilities. After all, we have been excited about

Tens of thousands of GEA Bock compressors are in operation all over the

world in all kind of applications. Our systems offer numerous solutions for

meeting state-of-the-art refrigeration technology requirements: Compres-

sors in a diverse range of models, sizes as well as the latest compressor

control technology.

The GEA reciprocating compressor range includes 18 GEA Grasso models of

compressors subdivided into 2 series: GEA Grasso V and GEA Grasso 5HP

as open type compressors with focus on high efficient ammonia compres-

sors for refrigeration and heat pumps.

The F model series provides modern open type compressors for separate drive systems

(using V belts or direct couplings). Load transfer through a V pair.

Virtually all drive capacity requirements can be met.

Very compact compressor design, robust and easy to handle. Oil pump lubrication as

standard.

The GEA Bock HG (Hermetic Gas-cooled) range of semi-hermetic compressors offers tradi-

tional suction gas-cooled compressor state of the art technology. These compressors of the

highest quality standard excel in their running comfort, easy maintenance, efficiency and

reliability. Suitable as standard for conventional or chlorine-free HFC refrigerants.

The HA (Hermetic Air-cooled) range, specially engineered by GEA Bock, is available for

deep-freezing applications, in particular for use with the refrigerants R22 and R404A.

GEA Bock vehicle compressors of the FK range are the result of many years of experience

in the domain of mobile cooling systems.

The unsurpassed light, compact, robust design and wide r.p.m. range are only some of the

outstanding features of this unique product range of two, four and six cylinder compres-

sors.

A wide variety of designs can be tailored to suit individual requirements.

The so-called K version is a special innovation with a unique valve plate system for

maximum requirements in bus and coach air-conditioning systems.

CO2 (Freezing)

The 50 bar GEA Grasso 5HP compressor, developed for use in CO2 cascade freezing sy-

stems, is a well accepted and reliable appearance in the industrial refrigeration market. 4

single stage models from 3 up to 6 cylinders cover a wide range capacities. The extremely

low volume flow in relation with the cooling capacity makes this series to a big performer.

NH3 (Heat pump applications)

A logic further development of the GEA Grasso 5HP series is the integration in NH3 heat

pump systems. The 50 bar design makes it possible to condensate up to 82 °C and as a re-

sult of that produce high level of water temperatures. Heat pump systems are developing

very quick in various segments of industry (Dairy, slaugther-houses etc.) and contribute in

reducing waste heat as well as CO2 emissions.

GEA Grasso V SeriesWith the new Grasso V reciprocating compressor series, GEA is heralding the start of a

completely new era for the industrial refrigeration market.

During the development of the GEA Grasso V series, GEA Grasso continually put itself in the

position of the end user. Every component was assessed for the most important elements

that contribute to a low Total Cost of Ownership like energy, maintenance and reliability

with min. downtime. The result is not only the most effcient reciprocating compressor on

the market but also a compressor with electronically controlled service intervals (extended

as well as flexible) in order to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership without jeopardizing

reliability. This new series replace the existing single stage series in a swept volume range

from up to m³/h. Compound (two stage) compressors will become available in 2013.

GEA Grasso Screw Compressors

The GEA Grasso LT series comes in fourteen sizes and covers a swept volume from 805

to 8560 m³/h. Due to the combined sleeve and roller bearing of the rotors, the compressor

has an extremely long life span and low noise and vibration levels. All components are

designed for long operating life, high availability and easy maintenance. Furthermore, the

compressors of the GEA Grasso LT can be provided according to the API 619 standard and

ISO 10440, respectively.

GEA Grasso SH Series

The GEA Grasso MC series comes in four sizes with a swept volume ranging from 471 to

860 m³/h. It has a simple and compact design between the compressor and package. Some

package components may come already integrated such as a suction side non-return valve,

suction filter, an oil pump along with an oil and hydraulic system with the appropriate sole-

noid valve assemblies for Vi and capacity adjustment. The control lines for the solenoid

valve for Vi and capacity control are connected directly to the compressor. The stepless

capacity and Vi control enables high efficiency in part and full load.

The GEA Grasso SH series comes in four sizes with a swept volume ranging from 231 to

372 m³/h. The simple design is owed by the integration of the complete oil management

system with only one oil connection and important package elements in the compressor.

The screw compressors come equipped with connections for monitoring pressure and tem-

perature, position displays on the control screen, and controlling the integrated solenoid

valve assembly for combined Vi (internal volume ratio) and capacity adjustment. The direct

assignment of the solenoid valves to Vi and capacity regulation and the connection of pres-

sure and temperature sensors on the compressor ease assembly and service work on the

package. The parallel slide system allows for Vi optimization and part load adaption to take

place simultaneously and independently of one another.

It means that even in part load operations a low-loss work process is possible for the screw

compressor.
