Ambitious goals need precisely defined solutions - in the same

way that stringent demands require the best possible quality

responses. The GEA 2H Water Technologies offers both - and

    a lot more besides

Founded in 1988 as a family-run company in Wettringen,

North Rhine-Westphalia, GEA 2H Water Technologies has gra-dually acquired an established position in the market through its

agility and its uncompromising approach to quality. After develo-

ping a process for producing high-quality polypropylene packings

(PP), further manufacturing locations were successively establis-

    hed abroad.

Today, the GEA 2H Water Technologies is an integral part of the GEA Group, together with the water division of Munters Euroform,

Aachen, which joined the group in April 2006. The financial ba-

cking of a major corporation enhances the grass-roots presence

and flexibility of a family-run company which has more than 40

years experience in the development, production and use of plastic

    packings.

All this not only provides our customers with a large range of di-

verse products meeting practical requirements. It means that we

also offer all-embracing solutions which have been precisely deve-

loped and tailored to the specific requirements of the project and

system concerned; solutions that are always completely new and

developed within the shortest possible space of time.

    Down-to-earth values. Practical solutions.

    Research & Development

Todays innovations are tomorrows standards. For this reason, we

devote considerable energy to developing new products and fields

of competence, both in-house and in co-operation with acknow-

    ledged partners in all areas.

Our new test cooling tower in Aachen is one of the exclusive test

facilities owned by GEA 2H Water Technologies. The transparent enclosure for visual inspection is combined with the comprehensi-

ve open and closed-loop control capabilities permitted by innova-

    tive instrumentation.

Evaluations by Independent test laboratories and test centres en-

sure that new GEA 2H products and manufacturing processes com-ply with all the most important requirements. Our customers, too,

benefit from reproducible performance data based on standardized

    test procedures.

A third pillar of product development by GEA 2H encompasses re-search projects for certain applications in cooperation with leading

international institutions, technological associations or the Fede-

ral Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Our links with

university research processes provide access to scientific findings

of a depth which will also allow us to continue building efficient

plants in the future, too - and always in line with the state of the

    art.

Thinking ahead. Striking out in new directions.

    Cooling Tower Components

Efficient, high-performance, basic components are needed

if the construction and operation of wet cooling towers

are to be based on both economic and ecological parame-

ters. But is that really all?

Additionally, cooling tower components from GEA 2H display a high degree of durability and stability. Without tiring. No

matter where. 2H PLASdek packings and mist eliminators, for instance, are used in cooling towers throughout the world. For

decades, they have satisfied outstandingly a whole variety of

requirements: both as original equipment and for retrospective

    optimization of existing plants.

Yet that is not enough: our engineers are constantly seeking to

improve the efficacy of our components. For this reason too,

the GEA 2H product portfolio also includes a large variety of packings with structures and surfaces guaranteeing the best

possible performance even in the presence of different cooling

water qualities. From high-performance packings with large

    heat exchange surface to low-fou-

ling fill with vertical ducts and

    grid structures.

    Reliable and safe. Satisfied customers.

In addition, GEA 2H products play a major part in helping to protect the

environment: 2H PLASdek-mist eliminators, for instance, prevent emissions from cooling towers. Even more is possi-

ble: the innovative 2H SANIPACKING offers additional safe-ty in controlling microbiological activity in cooling towers.

    Water and Effluent Treatment

GEA 2H Water Technologies can offer established solutions

and innovative technologies wherever attention focuses on

the use and purity of water. Flexible and adaptable, advanta-

geous in the long term. Three examples:

2H TUBEdek-lamellar separator plates for cost-efficient purification of drinking water by eliminating solids. 2H GEOdek for highly efficient management of rainwater. 2H BIOdek for biological purification of effluent using biofilm processes.

Three examples of how GEA 2H products master a whole variety of tasks. Throughout the world and even in adverse climatic

conditions, the immense diversity of materials, surfaces and

forms allows us to meet the most difficult requirements without

    wasting resources.

Years of experience in designing bio-reactors with stable

processes allow us to achieve cost-efficient solutions in

both the municipal and the industrial sectors. Regardless

of whether nitrification, denitrification, carbon con-

version or sedimentation is required: quality and

moderation define the execution of our technical

    solutions.

Sustainable efficiency is equally important. Here

too, GEA 2H packings ensure clarity from the very outset: thanks to low transport costs, rapid

installation on site and a long, maintenance-free

    service life.

Efficient use of resources. Without wasting money.

    Mass Transfer

Environmental protection is becoming increasingly impor-

tant - yet the pressure of costs is also growing constantly.

Trouble in the engineering office? GEA 2H Water Techno-

logies can offer well conceived solutions to keep the at-

    mosphere relaxed.

Our structured packings and mist eliminators for exhaust air

purification plants prove that economic and ecological factors

are by no means mutually exclusive. Their sophisticated tech-

nology boosts the efficacy and efficiency several times over -

even for small-scale plants and in the smallest possible space.

They are efficient and clean, as has been documented innume-

    rable times by our customers.

Our packings are typically used in the chemical industry, the

wood working industry, agriculture, for production of biogas,

in desorption plants for producing drinking water and for re-

habilitating sites contaminated with past pollution. The pa-

ckings are made of PVC, PP or PVDF. They are consequently

totally resistant to chemicals and can withstand temperatures

    of up to 140 C.

By the way: the GEA 2H software team has developed a pro-gram to support our customers when planning and building

absorption and desorption plants. It identifies the required pa-

ckings, for example, calculates the packing height and their fluid

dynamics, as well as many other parameters. This convenient

planning tool is available on request.

    Clear conscience. Profitable operation.

PVC packings are produced using our patented method

which allows the film edges to be double-folded.

This increases the stability of the packings and at the same time

ensures effective protection against erosion of the material re-

sulting from high, irregular exposure to water loads.

2H PLASdek and 2H BIOdek PVC packings are made from rigid PVC and meet with the requirement for difficult to ignite,

    self-extinguishing properties demanded by industry.

    Particularly resistant: PVC packings.

    Packings

More than 40 years ago the first cross-structured packings

were developed and perfected to the point where they

were ready for the market. Today, they are an established

feature in many different applications worldwide. The secret

behind their success is both simple and effective:

Compared with other packing structures, the contact intensity

of the media via which heat is exchanged between materials, i.e.

air and water, is much greater in packings with cross-structure.

This consequently ensures conditions for optimum phase tran-

sitions which are additionally promoted by the presence of lar-

    ger specific surfaces.

For particularly intensive contact: the cross-structure.

In the late 1980s, GEA 2H Water Technologies developed a

process for manufacturing profiled PP films. With this pa-

tented process, the profiled film is extruded directly from

the melt - with many advantages for the downstream fields

    of application.

Depending on requirements, the PP films are extruded with the

edges and middle roughly 30% thicker than elsewhere. As a re-

sult of this deliberate reinforcement, the stability of the top and

bottom edges of the packings is increased enormously. This ap-

plies for both 300 mm and 600 mm deep blocks.

Moreover, in combination with the PP compound developed by

GEA 2H, this optimum distribution of the film thickness gua-rantees exceptionally high resistance to erosion as a result of

    constant exposure to water.

Particularly resistant to compression: PP packings.

    Connections

A passion for intelligent solutions. The desire to protect

nature and the environment. An idea. A little time Success

is not always the result of innovative technology. Some-

times it is enough to concentrate on details.

The welding process developed by GEA 2H Water Technologies clearly shows that it is indeed worthwhile to question every-

thing and never give up in the search for a better solution. The

advantages of the technique are clear, in most respects. As a re-

sult, we are able to dispense with adhesives completely. No ad-

hesives means no solvents - and no solvent emissions. That is

more than simply a contribution towards protecting the envi-

ronment: eliminating adhesives also eliminates potential can-

didates for hydrolysis, a process which can cause adhesive

    bonds to dissolve.

Instead, the films are systematically and firmly fused together.

Depending on the type of packing involved, up to 20,000 weld

points per cubic metre guarantee that the films are superbly

bonded and capable of withstanding enormous loads - up to

    60,000 kg/m.

The mechanical strength of this connection technique has been

confirmed in long-term tests by accredited test laboratories, in-

cluding the Technical Control Board (TV).

    Perfect connections. Shining prospects.
