FIRENZE turbines

1. Degradation Curves for GE 5, GE 10 & PGT10 Product Line Gas Turbines

Gas turbine performance loss during extended operational periods is largely due to compressor fouling.

The rates of both compressor fouling and performance loss are a result of the variation in environmental conditions, fuel, machine operating scenario and maintenance practices. Performance loss during normal operation is minimised by periodic on-line and off-line compressor water washes. Performance loss during extended operation is expected to be greater for plants which are located in humid andlor contaminated industrial environments. Also plants operated under non-ideal running scenarios along with neglected or poorly performed maintenance practises can be expected to exhibit increased performance losses. Plants sited in relatively clean, less humid environments, operated within equipment design recommendation, using regular on and off-line compressor washes, would be expected to fall in the lower sections ofthe degradation bands.

Performance recovery, beyond that which occurs with normal maintenance, including on and off-line washes, can be achieved following other off-line procedures. One procedure in particular involves removing both the compressor rotor and stator airfoils. Compressor inlet air filter cleaning/replacement, along with other required maintenance may also be performed during this inspection. Such an outage would most likely coincide with hot gas path or major inspection intervals, since significant machine disassembly is required.

A typical gas turbine plant operating profile, reflecting on and off-line maintenance procedures is presented in Fig. I . Plant performance degradation during normal operation is cyclic as impacted by on and off-line compressor water washes. Average perfonnance loss during normal operation is represented by the heavy solid line in Fig. 1.

Expected non-recoverable performance corresponds to a curve represented by the locus of test points immediately following inspection, maintenance and compressor scour procedures as shown in Fig. I. Similarly the expected performance loss following on and off-line water wasi,ing are indicated by a locus of performance test points immediately following inspections and washing operations.

Note for GE5 Gas turbine: Due to the few hours accumulated from the fleet, this document can use for reference only (not for guaranteed values purpose) for the GE5 gas turbine.

Degradation curves for GES, GE 10 & PGTlO product line gas turbines

2. Expected Gas Turbine Plant Non-Recoverable Performance Loss During Extended Period Operation

The aged performance effects represented by these curves (fig 2 and 3) are based on the following:

performance is relative to tbe guarantee level;

all gas turbine plant equipment shall be operated and maintained in accordance with GE's :ecommended procedures for operation, preventive maintenance, inspection and both on-line and off-line cleaning;

all operations shall be within the design conditions specified in the relevant technical specifications;

a detailed operational log shall be maintained for all relevant operational data, to be agreed to amongst the parties prior to commencement of contract;

GE technical personnel shaU have access to plant operational data, logs, and site vi$its prior to conducting a performance test The owner will clean and maintain the equipment. The degree of cleaning and maintenance will be determined based on the operating history of each unit, atmospheric conditions experienced during the pedod of operation, the preventive and scheduled maintenance programs executed, and the results of the GE inspection;

the gas rurbine will be shut down for inspection and maintenance with compressor rotor and stator scouring, as a minimum, immediately prior to performance testing to determine performance loss_ The gas turbine performance test shall occur within 100 fired hours of these actions;

demonstration of gas turbine performance shall be in accordance with test procedures which are mutually agreed upon,

Note: Within tbe 32000 hours refer to the higher resolution curve (lig 2B and 3B)

3. Expected Gas Turbine Plant Performance Loss Following Normal Maintenance and Off-Line Compressor Water Wash

The aged performance effecls represented by these curves (fig 2 and 3) are based on the following :

performance is relative to the guarantee level;

all gas turbine plant equipment shall be operated and maintained in accordar,ce with GE's recommended procedures for operation, preventive maintenance, inspection and both on-line ~nd off-line cleaning;

all operations shall be within the design conditions specified in the relevant technical spec;f';cations;

a detailed operational log shall be maintained for all relevant operational data, 10 be agreed to amongst the parties prior to commencement of contract;

GE technical personnel shall have access !o plant operational data, logs, and site visits prior to conducting a performance test. The owner will clean and maintain the equipment. The degree of cleaning and maintenance will be determined based on the op~rating history of each unit, atmospheric condilions experienced during the period of operation, the preventive and scheduled maintenance programs executed, and the results of the GE inspection;

the gas rurbine will be shut down for inspection and Off-line compressor water wash, as a minimum, immediately prior to performance testing to determine performance loss, The gas turbine ""rformance test shall occur within 1 00 fired hours of these actions;

demonstration of gas turbine performance shall be in accordance with test procedur~s which are mutually agreed upon,

Notel: If a compressor rotor e stator sconring is carried out (typically at the major inspection), the estimate performance are reconditioned to the dotted line "not-recoverable performance" in figure 2 anI! 3_

Note 2: Within tbe 32000 hours refer tQ tbe higber resolution curve (fig 2B and 3B)
