POWER SUPPLY This Two-Way Power portable radio operates on AC household power

"" or 6 uC" size batteries with automatic AC/DC switching. The batteries II (not included with radio), and the AC line cord are housed in separate II, compartments on the back of the radio.

.-, BATTERY OPERATION 1. Remove Battery/Power Cord Door by pressing spring tabs down­

ward while lifting door off the cabinet back.

2. Insert the 6 "c" size batteries into the compartment as indicated on the diagram inside the compartment. Be sure the + (cap) end of each battery is installed in the direction shown in the battery outline.

3. Replace battery compartment door.

NOTE: After a radio has been used extensively in battery operation, the quality of sound may deteriorate or the loudness may decrease. When this happens, suspect run-down batteries.

To confirm that the batteries are run down, change to AC line cord operation. If the sound quality improves, the batteries should be replaced. IMPORTANT: Since few batteries are actually "leakproof", always ., remove batteries, (even if new) when storing product unused for long periods or using AC continually. For shorter periods of AC operation (up to 30 days), batteries may remain in product. Always remove worn­out batteries as they may leak chemicals which will damage the elec­tronic components and cabinet.

AC POWER OPERATION Remove Battery/Power Cord Door.

Remove AC power cord from compartment and plug into any 12o-volt AC household outlet. An opening in the door has been provided to pennit AC operation with the door in place. Your radio will automatically convert from battery to AC operation. Removing plug from household outlet without switching radio to OFF will automatically revert opera­tion to battery power.

RADlonv OPERATION 1. Turn radio on by sliding Power

BUILT-IN AFC The built-in Automatic Frequency Control (AFC) reduces drift on FM reception and helps to keep the radio locked in on the station to which it is tuned.

TELEVISION RECEPTION • TV1 Channels 2-6

• TV2 Channels 7-13 This radio is designed to receive the AUDIO (sound) portions of televi­sion broadcasts on channels 2 through 13 (VHF) that operate in your area.

NOTE: In some instances your television set (connected to an out­side antenna) will receive broadcasts that your radio will not receive. Only VHF channels 2 through 13 can be received with this unit.

UHF channels 1~3 cannot be received on this radio.

WEATHER FORECAST RECEPTION Weather information in detail is given continuously from over 325 U.S. Government Weather Stations on frequencies of 162.4 MHz, to 162.55 MHz.

The Weather transmissions, broadcast 24 hours a day, are taped messages which are repeated every 4 to 6 minutes and revised and updated as needed to match the changing weather conditions.

For additional information, check your local office of the National Weather Service (Dept. of Commerce).

IMPORTANT: The listening range of NOAA weather stations varies from 10 miles up to a maximum of 40 miles from the station's transmit­ter. In some areas of the United States, weather transmissions can· not be monitored. The effective range of this radio will have wide variations due to height of the local transmitting antenna, atmospheric conditions, and terrain between the transmitter and your radio's location.

WEATHER BAND OPERATION If a Weather Station is operating in your area, you can listen to weather forecasts as follows:

1. Slide the Band Select switch to the TV2 position.

2. Fully extend the Whip Antenna.

3. Rotate Tuning Knob so the Dial Scale Pointer is in the area be­tween the two arrows ( T 24 HOUR WEATHER) shown on the TV2 Dial Scale. A

Due to the broadcast characteristics of weather transmissions, you may notice a reduction in the volume level of your radio when switch­ing from AM or FM to the TVl'vVeather Band. Readjust the Volume Control to your preferred listening level.

ANTENNAS This radio has a built-in AM antenna and a telescoping whip antenna for FM, TV1, TV2 and Weather.

The built-in AM antenna is somewhat directional, and it may be necessary, on weaker AM stations, to rotate the radio slightly until you get the best possible reception.

When listening to FM, TV1, TV2 or Weather stations, be sure to fully extend the sections of the whip antenna then, adjust the length of the antenna for best reception.

NOTE: To avoid damaging the whip antenna, always lcmer the anten­na one section at a time, starting with the largest diameter section. Do not push down from the top end of the antenna since buckling or bending is possible.

Remueva el cordon de energia CA del compartimiento y enchutelo en cualquier tomacorriente domestico CA de 120 voltios. ESCUCHANDO PRIVADAAfENTE Un audifono accesorio opcional, Nu. 3-5750, Ie permitira disfrutar de su radio de una manera completamente privada. Cuando este en­chufado a la c1avija de conexion, localizada en la parte lateral del gabinete, automaticamente la bocina de la radio es silenciada. La c1avi­ja de conexion ha side disenada para permitir el uso de audifonos estereofonicos con su radio de monosonido pero la recepci6n sera oida solamente en monosonido.
