For my Ted Talk choice I decided to watch one called “The

Art and Craft of Bread” by Peter Reinhart. In this talk he

explained the complex aspects of bread and how it is a food

that goes through mulitple transformations before it comes

to its final stage. During these transformations Reinhart talk about how as the bread is being made it goes through

many processes of life and death. As certain ingredients and

methods are applied to the bread it alters its makeup multiple

times. Before watching this Ted Talk I had never thought

about bread as more than anything that I consume.

After watching the Ted Talk I decided to take this project in

the direction of branding a made-up bread company. For my

deliverables I created an: “About Us” poster, a newspaper

article, a grand opening sign, a menu, and a mockup of the

bread truck. For my color palette I decided to go with colors

that represented a rustic and modern feel. My typfaces were

inspired by looking at various bakery logos and finding a typefaces that was both elegant and strong. For my logo I

created a brick oven with a loaf of bread acting as the inside

of the oven.

The Brick Oven Bread Company is a Burlington,

Vermont family-owned company. Our family

has always had a passion for baking bread. It

all started when our great-grandfather, John,

learned how to craft a variety of handmade

breads from his father as a child. He married

our great-grandmother, Jane, in his teenage

years and together they had five kids. The children all learned how to craft bread and

later in life John purchased a brick oven to

enhance the quality of his breads. After he

passed we decided to keep his memory and

knowledge of bread making alive by opening

our own brick oven bread bakery.
