Operation Gdynia Sails

Siege of Malbork

Vivat Vasa is a truly unique event. In short, Gniew will be hosting a historical reeanactment of a battle of the 1626–1629 Polish­Swedish War. journeyThe culinary tradition of Gdańsk reflects its rich history.

Over hundreds of years the marine and multicultural character of the city has shaped local tastes. They are

now a unique blend of past and present.

The port of Gdańsk had always been open to travelers from all around the world, both near and far, new flavours and culinary sugges tions.

Meals, products and culinary curiosities coming from different parts of the globe, together with the wealth of former citizens had an impact on the character of local gastronomy. It is best seen today, when local restaurants are thriving like never before. All this because of the evermore popular, unique blend of specific, traditional cui­sine with modern solutions. Chefs from Gdańsk rely on top­quality ingredients and Slow Food ide­ology. They know too well that food is serious business and there is no place for rush. Produce is mostly acquired from local small and mid­size manufacturers, for whom quality is the main value. Vegetables and meat come from natural farming and breeding, and fish are caught using only traditional methods.

By encouraging fair and healthy competition, cre ative chefs discover new flavours or rediscover the old, forgotten ones. These are once again begin ning to dominate restaurant plates. All this makes the importance of Gdańsk as the “culinary power” increase every year, creating yet another reason to visit this great city.

Half-Price Weekend and Night of the Restaurants

Culinary and culture tourism have become extremely popular over the past few decades. Following this trend, Gdańsk has been promoting specifics of the local cuisine, creating a culinary route and organizing a variety of promotional events. All under a catchy slogan: “Delight in the taste of Gdańsk”.

Fine Polish meal usually consists of a base refined to the state of true delicacy. Conservative in its nature it is nevertheless open for even the most avant garde fusion experiments.

For guests and citizens it is a great opportunity to spend the day tasting local flavours on a reasonable budget. On the other hand, the “Night of the Restaurants” provides an opportunity to take part in an incred­ible marathon of culinary discoveries. Chefs from the best local restaurants prepare exceptional dishes and presentations. This night presents you with a dilemma: which restaurant to choose and what to taste?

For those undecided, a piece of friendly advice: every choice is the right one!

Port beverages

One of the most recognizable local Gdańsk produce in the world are two particular ardent spirits. Connected inseparably with the city’s his­tory, they have been one of its symbols. We are, of course, referring to Goldwasser and Stobbes

Machandel. History of the Goldwasser herbal liqueur can be traced back as far as the 16th cen­tury, when a certain Dutch immigrant began its manufacture. 23­carat gold flakes float inside the bottle. An interesting story is also connected with this liqueur. Nowadays, the liqueur is only pro­duced in Germany as “Danziger Goldwasser” and for the Goldwasser restaurant, located in Długie Pobrzeże, Gdańsk. Machandel, on the other hand, is considered by historians to be the “national beverage” of Gdańsk. This juniper vodka has been manufactured for almost 250 years and is as popular as it has ever been. The obligatory ritual connected with drinking this vodka consists of a special glass and a prune on a toothpick. After eat­ing the vodka­soaked prune, you drink the vodka, break the toothpick and leave it in the glass.

Rätter, produkter och kulinariska kuriositeter från olika delar av världen har påverkat den lo­kala gastronomins karaktär. Den märks tydligt idag, när restauranger blomstrar som aldrig förr. Detta beror på den allt populärare, unika bland­ningen av ett traditionellt kök och moderna lös­ningar. Kockar från Gdańsk använder ingredienser av högsta kvalitet tillsammans med en Slow Food­ideologi. De tar matlagning på största allvar och inser vikten av att inte ha för bråttom. Jordbruksprodukter köps för det mesta från lokala små och medelstora producenter som prioriterar kvalitet. Grönsaker och kött kommer från naturlig odling och uppfödning och fisk fångas med traditionella metoder.

Genom att uppmuntra en rättvis och sund kon­kurrens upptäcker kreativa kockar nya smaker eller återupptäcker gamla, ibland glömda sådana. Dessa smaker börjar åter dominera på restaurang­ernas tallrikar. Allt detta gör att Gdańsks betydelse som ”kulinarisk makt” ökar varje år, och det är ännu ett skäl att besöka den här fantastiska staden.

Den kulinariska och kulturella turismen har blivit allt mer populär de senaste årtiondena. Gdańsk har följt trenden och marknadsfört det lokala kökets speciella karaktär, skapat en kulinarisk väg och organiserat en mängd olika marknads­föringsevenemang. Allt samlas under en slogan: ”Delight in the taste of Gdańsk”.

at all. There are several different factors that cre­ate the particular atmosphere of the place. Prob­ably the most important one are the stylish cafes where live goes on at its own pace. It is here that

you can probably find more cafés and trendy clubs per square meter than anywhere else. The joints outdo each other by bringing new ideas to the customers, offering sophisticated menus and origi­nal interiors that not only refer to current trends, but also to fine tradition. New, popular spots are door­to­door with noble places with a rich past. All of them, however, have one thing in common: a

You simply have to experience it.The most interesting places are located along Bohaterów Monte Cassino St., usually referred to as “Monciak”. Side streets can also surprise you with their good vibrations and unusual style. This is, however, a diversion for the more experi enced ones. Each place here is worth your while, whether you choose an apple pie from the almost homely Cafe Zaścianek, a visit to the modern Cafe Fer-ber or the classic Blue Poodle (Błękitny Pudel).

These are the spots that you simply have to visit if you want to feel the atmosphere of the place. In search for good music, your first leg should get you to Sfinks700 where, from time to time, Leszek Możdzer used to become a bartender. Or, you can go to the place of cigarette smoke and artistic atmosphere, which is Spaitf. Finally there is the somewhat Bauhaus­styled “Zatoka Sztuki”, together with the famous theatre of the Atelier club.

It should come as no surprise that Sopot has be­come a trendy place. There are plenty of events in clubs and cafes that people simply want to appear at. Unfortunately, in a place like Sopot designer shoes are not enough. Style and fashion have to be an intrinsic part of your personality. If you dream of becoming star of the place it would be good for you to know where to show up, what to wear and how to return home afterwards. There is no other city in Poland whose citizens would follow fashion trends more carefully (well, maybe except Warsaw). Trendy cafes and boutiques are located next to interior design offices, vintage shops, and so on. Apart from simply fashionable people, you can come across artists, celebrities, fashion designers and freaks that use “Monciak” as their catwalk. All this adds up to wholesome image of Sopot as the fashion capital of the north. No surprise that Polish fashionistas chose this place to be the spot of one of their most import­ant events – Sopot Art & Fashion Week.

Even the evolution of the event’s name pro­vides for a picture of its development. The show has been taking place since 2008, when it first started as Ewa Minge’s collection show and was met with high acclaim from the audience. The following year, the official Sopot Fashion Day was born. One Day gradually turned into Days. After a while fashion was joined by art and that is why Sopot Fashion Days have become Sopot Art&Fashion Week.

The summer fashion show has grown to be­come one of the most important events of its kind in Po land. The idea is simple, yet unique. Fashion un veils itself in surroundings of the pier, beach and the sea. At nightfall, art takes its place. Although fashion shows of famous design­ers are, naturally, the focal point of the event, it is the additional el ements that give it this special, unique character it has become famous for.

The catwalk, next to the famous, honored and respected, features the young, ambitious and aspiring. Collections from emerging designers are no less popular than those from the veterans of the business, and are not merely an addition to the show. So if Sopot Art & Fashion offers

to show you someone whose name you are not familiar with, you had better remember it. They might come as a revelation, like Jarek Juźwin or Natasha Pavluchenko.

The Art side of the enterprise does not get a raw deal, either. Zatoka Sztuki Art & Business Centre offers exhibitions and openings that cor­respond with pier fashion shows. This blend of two separate spheres is quite unique and pushes them both forward. Art becomes fashionable and fashion becomes art. Obviously, no event of such class can be complete without lectures and talks on the subject by renown specialists. The icing on the cake are concerts and live DJ sets that make this event even more enjoyable. A holistic approach to the subject allowed to strengthen the position of Sopot Art & Fahsion Week among the variety of fashion events in Poland. Most of all, it helped to secure the brand as original, gal­lant and trendsetting.

Secondly, the Globaltica World Cultures Festival and Gdynia Film Festival, which is the most important event in the Polish film industry. dential architecture of the late Medieval period.The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For many years a favourite destination for foreign visitors, as well as a must­see for the locals. It is magical and friendly, with interesting exhibitions, cultural events and many amenities.

The Intercessor Saints. A Gothic sculpture at Malbork Castle

Malbork Castle has been hosting Medieval sculp­ture collections in a modern setting since April 2013. Designed with style, enhanced by multime­dia presentations and an education zone, it is a modern exhibition particularly attractive to chil­dren and teenagers. The exhibition in the Castle Museum tells a story of the culture, religion and aesthetics of the Medieval period. Its main topic is the cult of Christian saints, the particular fea­tures of local cults and individual patrons.

Amber Contexts

The well­known worldwide Malbork collection of amber, enhanced with multimedia, has been presented at the castle in a modern setting since November 2011. The Malbork exhibition entitled Amber Contexts displays the wealth of

The future has landed

Facing the challenge of the rapid growth of the Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport, Pomorskie make a giant leap and

once again confirm its position as one of the region’s most dynamic metropolitan areas. Creation of airport-city centre rapid rail system have been instrumental across the world in transforming major cities into real metropolises. Tricity is now about to join the elite club as the launch of PKM is

drawing near.

the city centre. Its creation is a must, as the huge number of passengers is stretching streets’ carriage capacity to the limits. No wonder then that expecta­tions for the PKM run unusually high. The project rightfully aspires to its status of a groundbreaking development for more than one reason.

In the big picture – PKM is a part of the grand plan centered around airport’s reshape. This third biggest airport in Poland is one of fastest growing airport in Europe.

Already done new cutting­edge T2 passenger terminal doubled its passengers capacity from 2,5 mln to 5 mln and greatly improved quality of service. In addition, the terminal is undertaking further significant enlargement to move the ar­rivals hall there and to rise its capacity to 7 mln passengers per year. The investment is due to be finished in mid­2015. These efforts are a must as the demand for an efficient european­class airport is growing really fast. Nearly 3 million passengers per year are travelling on over 50 destinations, ¼ of which is located in Scandinavia. To operate such a traffic in years 2009–2012 Gdansk Airport has realized its biggest investments plan. Thanks to the new taxiways capacity of a runway in creased from 12 up to 44 operations per hour. New aprons have extended number of parking places (for C­code aircrafts) from 19 up to 35.

New jet bridges are the latest addition to the airport’s infrastructure.

T2 terminal’s facilities are considered to be among country’s best.

Presently apart from extending new terminal, one of main investments is to raise category of airport from I CAT to II CAT which will allow air­crafts to operate in more difficult conditions of limited or reduced visibility.

Apart of series of technical improvements to meet the highest standards in terms of efficiency, safety and environment protection, much was done to lift the quality of passenger service. The newest investment is a set of top­notch jet bridges the passengers will enjoy this spring.

In this light it seems obvious that the region must prepare for the surge of visistors, hence the PKM. Those arriving in Tricity by air via Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport will have already noticed one of the 18 stops of PKM just outside the new terminal. To put it all into perspective, let’s at least glance over some facts and figures of the PKM develop ment. Building process began just over a year ago with completion expected around mid 2015. Wit nessing the rapid pace of works one could just but agree with one of the project’s directors that this deadline had indeed been very cautiously drafted.

This is indeed quite a feat when you consider that the final decision to build PKM along its cur­rent route had been made in the final quarter of 2012. Before any actual ground or building works could begin legal issues and status of over 200 par­cels of real estate where PKM’s route was planned had to be settled – a challenge that could raise eyebrows even at a seasoned legal office. Such entanglements come as no surprise in a region where both grand ‘History’ and the not less signif­icant history of individuals are acutely linked with geography. Going further back, we learn that the project is partially a reconstruction, from ruins, of a railway completed exactly a century ago and de­stroyed during the final months of World War II.

These remnants served as a reminder of the troubled yet rich and multifaceted history of the region and were immortalised by the famous Gdańsk novelist Paweł Huelle. As the old railway had been intended to boost the economy and trade as well as provide a modern means of com­mute to the citizens of the growing city of Gdańsk, PKM, its modern incarnation, is designed to serve a similar purpose. However, this involves meeting modern­day challenges of an unprecedented scale. This has been by far the biggest, in terms of both expenditure and organisational outreach, development ever to be undertaken by local gov­ernment of Pomorskie.

PKM will certainly receive a warm welcome from the Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport’s passen­gers. And their number is expected to reach the milestone of 3 million a year at the end of 2014. Airport’s officials prepared a number of events including lottery among plane tickets holders and obviously a special honours for the passenger no. 3 000 000. Who knows, maybe you will be the lucky one?

Gdansk Lech Walesaflygplatsens dynamiska utveckling innebär en stor utmaning och den pommerska regionen har tagit ett gigantiskt steg och återigen bekräftat sin position som ett av Östersjöns mest dynamiska storstadsområden. Skapandet av järnvägssystem för snabbtåg mellan flygplatser och stadscentrum har varit avgörande i hela världen för att omvandla större städer till metropoler. Trestadsområdet är på väg att bli en ny medlem i elitklubben, nu när PKM-invigningen närmar sig.

Akronym ”PKM” står för Pomorska Kolej Metropolitalna (Pommerska metropol snabbtåg) vilket kommer att komplet­

tera det befintliga snabbtågets linje Szybka Kolej Miejska (SKM – Citysnabbtågen) som redan nu är ett oumbärligt transportmedel för hela Trestads­området. Dess huvuduppgift är att sammanlänka den snabbt växande Gdansk Lech Walesaflygplat­sen med stadskärnan. Den nya tåglinjen är ett måste eftersom gatornas kapacitet inte klarar en växande trafik och förväntningarna på PKM är där­för extremt höga.

PKM är en del av en stor utvecklingsplan rö­rande flygplatsens ombyggnad. Flygplatsen är den tredje största i Polen och är en av de snab­bast växande flygplatserna i Europa. Den redan invigda supermoderna avgångsterminalen T2 fördubblade dess passagerarkapacitet från 2,5 miljoner upp till 5 miljoner och har avsevärt förbättrat servicekvaliteten. Dessutom finns det planer på att vidareutveckla terminalen för att kunna flytta även ankomsthallen dit och för att öka dess kapacitet upp till 7 miljoner passage­rare per år. Investeringen beräknas vara klar i mitten av 2015. Dessa insatser behövs verkligen eftersom det råder ett stort behov av en effektiv flygplats i europeisk klass. Varje år reser nästan 3 miljoner passagerare till drygt 50 destinatio­ner, och en fjärdedel av dessa finns i Norden. För att kunna hantera trafiken under perioden 2009­2012 genomförde Gdansk flygplats dess hittills största byggprojekt. Med de nya taxiba­norna ökade start­ och landningsbanan kapaci­tet från 12 upp till 44 aktiviteter per timme. De nya parkeringsytorna har ökat antalet parke­ringsplatser för C­kod flygplanen från 19 upp till 35. Den viktigaste investeringen, förutom utbyggnaden av den nya terminalen, är att utöka flygplatskategori från I CAT upp till II CAT, vilket skulle göra det möjligt för flygplanen att fungera under svårare förhållanden med begränsad eller nedsatt sikt.

Förutom flera tekniska förbättringar som har gjorts för att få högsta möjliga standard när det gäller effektivitet, säkerhet och miljö, har också mycket gjorts för att förbättra kundservicen. Den allra senaste investeringen är förstklassiga embarkeringsbryggor som passagerare kommer att få njuta av till våren.

Mot bakgrund av detta, är det självklart att regionen måste förbereda sig för den kraftiga ökningen av besökare, därav PKM. De som kom­mer till Trestadsområdet med flyg via Gdansk Lech Walesaflygplatsen kommer säkert att lägga märke till en av PKMs 18 hållplatser direkt utan­för den nya terminalen.

För att sätta det hela i perspektiv, låt oss överblicka vissa fakta och siffror i PKMs utveckling. Själva byggar­betet startades för drygt ett år sedan och var planerat att avslutas i mitten av 2015. Nu, efter vi har sett ett mycket snabbt tempo kan vi inte annat än hålla med en av byggcheferna att sluttiden har planerats med stor försiktighet. Detta är verkligen en bedrift när man betänker att det slutliga beslutet att bygga PKM enligt den aktuella planen, togs det sista kvartalet 2012.

Innan de riktiga mark­ eller byggarbetena skulle kunna börja, behövde flera juridiska problem lösas och status sättas för drygt 200 markområden där PKMs linje hade planerats. Sådana svårigheter var ingen överraskning i en region där både lång histo­ria och, lika viktigt, personliga historier, är drama­tiskt kopplade till geografin. Om vi går ännu längre tillbaka skulle vi kunna säga att projektet faktiskt inte är något annat än en delvis rekonstruktion av ruiner från en tågbana som byggdes för exakt ett hundra år sedan och som helt förstördes under andra världskrigets sista månader. Det som åter­stod betraktades som en påminnelse om regionens oroliga men ändå rika och mångfacetterad historia som också förevigats av den berömde romanförfat­taren Paweł Huelle från Gdańsk.

Den gamla järnvägen var avsedd att stimulera ekonomin och handeln samt erbjuda medborg­arna ett modernt sätt att pendla i den växande sta­den Gdansk, och PKM i dess moderna inkarnation, är avsedd att tjäna ett likartat syfte. Det handlar om att möta dagens utmaningar utan motstycke. Det nu pågående arbetet har varit den absolut största utvecklingsprojektet någonsin, både när det gäller kostnader och organisation, som har ge­nomförts av lokala myndigheten i Pommern.

PKM kommer säkert att få ett varmt välkom­nande från Gdansk Lech Walesaflygplatsen och dess passagerare. Och antalet passagerare förvän­tas att nå ett nytt rekord på 3 miljoner per år se­nast vid slutet av 2014. Flygplatsens personal har redan nu förberett många evenemang, inklusive ett lotteri bland flygbiljettsinnehavare, och en sär­skild utmärkelse för passagerare nummer 3 000 000. One of the most striking examples is LPP. Being one of the region’s larg­est apparel retailers it boasts a port­folio of brands that include

Reserved, Cropptown, House, Sinsay and Mo­hito. These offer apparel to fashion­conscious customers of all ages: Cropp Town, House and Sinsay are LPP’s youth­focused brands, Mohito has an upmarket and exclusive touch whilst Re­served has been the company’s first brand and offers apparel for customers from every age group. What made LPP one of the most profit able companies in Poland was their persever ance in building their own unique identity and brands and a steady expansion abroad – LPP’s collec­tions have a dedicated customer base in 10 coun­tries. Their entire range of apparel is de signed locally by a team of Poland’s top­league design­ers at the company’s headquarters in the Dolne Miasto District just outside the historical centre of Gdańsk.

Sticking close to the clothing section, two of Pomorskie’s brands to take particular notice of are Batycki and Gino Rossi. Both produce outstanding leatherware – the latter company is renowned for its quality designer shoes – they are actually Poland’s biggest shoe manufacturer with showrooms across the entire country and beyond. Gino Rossi took its name after one of the managers and co­founders. The idea was to supply quality shoes at an affordable price to cus­tomers still desperately in need of designer prod­ucts after the greyish communist era. Having an Italian onboard ensured that the highest industry standards in terms of quality, design and market­ing have been strictly adhered to. Batycki pres­ents a slightly different story. It is a company about 10 years younger than Gino Rossi, there­fore a product of a somewhat different era and economic environment. With competition rife amongst most manufacturers Batycki set about focusing on top­quality upmarket merchandise whilst still retaining a price advantage over competitors, mostly from western countries. As a consequence, despite its relatively young age, Batycki has already built a strong international reputation for their designer handbags that have not been unnoticed by insiders of the fashion industry in London and New York. The company is both cosmopolitan and regional as one of the favourite gems used in Batycki’s collection is amber. Therefore you can find the unique Baltic fossil embedded in a broad line of vanity bags, wallets, briefcases or etuis.

Classy and desirable as Pomorskie’s fashion brands may be, it would not do justice to the

region to restrict ourselves to clothes and shoes. A visit to one of the numerous shopping centres of Pomorskie, be it Riviera and Klif in Gdynia, Galeria Bałtycka, Alfa Centrum, Galeria Manhat­tan, Madison or Fashion House Outlet in Gdańsk, is a brilliant opportunity to take a closer look at the range of products by Pomorskie’s brands on offer. AA Cosmetics with their Oceanic range of cosmetics and Ziaja are two major brands of beauty products founded in the Pomorskie region. Both focus on hypoallergenic cosmetics manufactured in a sustainable way from natural resources. They offer a wide range of products perfect for practically every type of skin imagin­able. It is not a female only business since both companies have extensive line of products de­signed with men’s skin needs in mind.

the identity of the region and even the entire country in other areas. To list just a few, wp.pl, Poland’s first web portal, LOTOS, the petroleum and chemical company or a portfolio of compa­nies of Sopot’s Prokom Investment including IT

giant Prokom (now a part of the Asseco Group), real estate developer Polnord or Poland’s biggest biotech company and one of the world largest insulin manufacturer Bioton. The list could go on and on. Let us just recapitulate here – Po­morskie’s brands are building the region’s commendable reputation, but also, the region has become a praiseworthy brand itself, a factor that helps novel companies that constantly and optimistically continue to spring up.

De senaste årtiondena har Pommern utvecklat många unika varumärken och företag som ger regionen identitet. Många av dem är mycket framgångsrika – i vissa fall på europeisk eller till och med global skala. Här ska vi ta en närmare titt på vilka varumärken som har byggt upp det moderna Pommern.

Ett av de mest iögonfallande exemplen är LPP. Som en av regionens största kläd­butiker har det en portfölj av varumär­

ken som Reserved, Cropptown, House, Sinsay och Mohito. LPP erbjuder kläder till modemedvetna kunder i alla åldrar – Cropptown, House och Sin­say är deras ungdomsmärken. Mohito har en ex­klusiv lyxkänsla, medan Reserved var företagets första varumärke och erbjuder kläder till alla ål­dersgrupper. Det som gjorde LPP till ett av Polens mest lönsamma företag var ihärdigheten när man byggde upp den egna unika identiteten och varu­märkena, samt den ständiga expansionen utom­lands. LPP:s kollektioner har trogna kunder i tio länder. Allt designas lokalt av ett team som består av Polens främsta designers, vid företagets huvud­kontor i Dolne Miasto­distriktet, alldeles utanför Gdańsks historiska centrum.

Om vi håller oss kvar inom konfektion är Ba­tycki och Gino Rossi två pommerska varumärken som är värda särskild uppmärksamhet. Båda producerar enastående läderprodukter. Batycki har sedan starten fokuserat på exklusiva produkter av högsta kvalitet, men till ett bättre pris jämfört med konkurrenterna som främst finns i väst. Tack vare detta har Batycki redan hunnit bygga upp ett starkt internationellt anseende för sina designer­handväskor, vilket inte har gått modebranschen i London och New York förbi. Företaget är både kosmopolitiskt och regionalt, eftersom en av favo­ritstenarna i Batyckis kollektion är bärnsten. Du hittar dessa unika östersjöfossiler i en bred linje av necessärer, plånböcker, portföljer och etuier.

Culture thrive on investment spree

Tourists from all over the world flock to Pomorze in ever-greater numbers. Not many people had expected a doubling in tourist traffic in less than two years. It is not surprising, therefore,

that the region, as well as its cities, invests in promotional campaigns. They also spend significant sums of money to raise their attractiveness.

Their shape may surprise the amateurs of modern theatre, since they have been adapted to provide for the most faithful reproduction of both Elizabethan theatre as well as commedia dell’arte. The Italian, or box stage is separated from the audience by a curtain and ramp, while the English stage is a covered amphitheatre. A fact worth mentioning is that it is going to be the first dramatic theatre in Poland since WWII that will have been built from scratch – the theatre is due to be opened in September 2014.

European Solidarity Centre

Another modern institution with tradition and her itage in its background is the building of the Euro pean Solidarity Centre. The organi­zation has been founded to spread the ideals of freedom, retain memory of the “Solidarity” movement and the tragic events that unfolded at Gdańsk Shipyard. Strikes that had in the end broken the communist nomenklatura and initiated the process of decay of the Eastern Block, are a significant contribution of Gdańsk to world’s history. Those events have the face of a living symbol of Gdańsk, Lech Wałęsa, as well as countless thousands of anonymous shipyard workers. Their tales will be told in the ESC, where a permanent exhibition devoted to the modern history events will be staged. Different forms of expression will await the visitors, since the ESC is not only the building. It includes nu merous initiatives: concerts, lectures, happenings, workshops, cultural events, exhibitions etc. The Centre also joins the current discourse by asking questions about the presence of the principles of “Solidarity” and means of achieving them now and in the future.

Like the Theatre, the localization of the ESC

is also symbolic ­ next to the Monument of the Fallen Shipyard Workers of 1970 and the

Pomorskie was visited by 3.9 million people in 2011. In the following year this number increased to 6.6 mil­lion. As a response, Gdańsk and

Gdynia have made considerable investment ef­forts to handle this massive wave of tourists. In 2014, some key investments are going to be put into operation: the European Solidarity Center and Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre are on their way. Two more will follow: the Gdynia Emigration Museum and WWII Museum. These have a chance to not only become symbols of the two cities, but also part of the local population’s identity.

Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre

This facility is designed to remind people that modern Polish theatre was born in Gdańsk. This tradi tion that might have been an object of envy of more than one European capital has, for the past few decades, gathered dust. The agenda behind the Theatre’s foundation is to restore our theatre’s rightful place.

The location was not chosen by random. At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries rich, modern Gdańsk was one of the most “Shakespearean” cities of Europe. It was often host to English acting troupes with the most contemporary repertoire. Gdańsk was the first city in Poland to build a pub­lic theatre in 1610, only 11 years after famous En­glish The Globe. Its architec tural style resembled the characteristics of Eliza bethan theatres and its stage was at the same time a school of swords­manship. Shakespeare’s plays were staged there during his lifetime, making it at this time probably the first theatre to do so outside of England. These traditions were the inspiration.

historic main gate of the Gdańsk Shipyard. Al­though most of the area does not belong to the shipyard anymore, it has preserved its unique, post­in dustrial character. In all this, there is the new ESC building. Ambivalent in its design and for many – plain shocking, this building has become one of the symbols of Gdańsk before its opening and subject of heated debate.The monumental building is covered with weather­ing steel with a protective layer that resembles rusted steel, making the ESC building look like a hull of an enormous ship. Its raw design is both an attempt to evoke the history of the Shipyard, as well as part of the postindustrial area devel­opment plan, which includes the Young City Gdańsk area.

Changes are comingInfrastructural investments in the recent years have not only rapidly grown, but have also become spectacular. All for the sake of competitiveness and being more and more attractive to tourists. What we have seen over the past few years will af­fect the regional economy and image of the cities. It will also have an impact on architecture and our identity. Those investments are not only meant to generate income but also, what is equally import­ant, to serve as a weapon of Pomorze in the fight for a distinct image of the region.

Allt fler turister från hela världen kommer till Pommern. På mindre än två år har turisttrafiken fördubblas. Det är därför ingen överraskning att regionen och städerna investerar i både reklamkampanjer och i att göra sig mer attraktiva för sina besökare.

Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre

Syftet med den här inrättningen är att påminna folk om att den moderna teatern föddes i Gdańsk. Tra­ditionen, som kan ha väckt avund i flera europeiska huvudstäder, har samlat damm i några årtionden. Idén med att grunda teatern är att återställa vår teaters rättmätiga plats. Och platsen valdes inte av en slump. I slutet av 1500­ och 1600­talen var den rika, moderna staden Gdańsk en av Europas mest ”shakespearianska” städer. Den fick ofta besök av engelska skådespelargrupper med de senaste repertoarerna. Gdańsk var den första staden i Polen som byggde en teater för allmänheten 1610, bara 11 år efter Englands mest berömda teater, The Globe. Den arkitektoniska stilen påminde om de elisabetanska teatrarna och scenen var samtidigt en svärdsfäktningsskola. Shakespeares pjäser spelades där under hans livstid, och det var troligen den första teatern utanför England där det hände. De här traditionerna är en inspiration för det nya monumentala bygget.

Byggnaden, som har designats av Renato Rizzi, har två scener – en italiensk och en engelsk. Flera innovationer, till exempel ett snurrande auditorium och ett öppet tak, gör att tre scener kan förvandlas till en – italiensk, engelsk och central – en arena. European Solidarity Centre

En annan modern institution med tradition och arv i bakgrunden är bygget av European Solidarity Centre. Organisationen grundades för att sprida frihetens ideal och bevara minnet av rörelsen ”Solidaritet” och de tragiska händelserna på

varvet i Gdańsk. Strejker som i slutet knäckte den kommunistiska nomenklatura och inledde processen med östblockets nedgång och fall är ett viktigt bidrag från Gdańsk till världshistorien. Ansiktet utåt för de här händelserna är en levande symbol för Gdańsk, Lech Wałęsa, samt tusentals anonyma varvsarbetare. Deras historier kommer att berättas i ESC, där en permanent utställning kring dessa historiska händelserna i modern tid kommer att finnas. Olika uttrycksformer väntar besökarna, eftersom ESC inte bara är byggnaden utan omfattar många olika initiativ – konserter, föredrag, evenemang, workshops, kulturhändel­ser, utställningar osv. Centret bidrar också till det aktuella samtalet genom att ställa frågor kring principerna för ”Solidaritet” och olika sätt att uppnå dem nu och i framtiden.

Precis som för teatern är placeringen av ESC också symbolisk – bredvid monumentet för de fallna varvsarbetarna 1970 och den historiska huvudporten till varvet i Gdańsk. Trots att det mesta av området inte längre tillhör varvet har det behållit sin unika, postindustriella karaktär. Mitt i allt detta finns den nya ESC­byggnaden. Den har en ambivalent design för många – rentav chockerande – och har blivit en av symbolerna för Gdańsk redan innan den har öppnat, och har redan varit föremål för en hetsig debatt.

From 26 July to 17 August Gdańsk un­dergoes a metamorphosis into Eu­rope’s biggest fair – and this has been happening for 754 years. Initia­

tive to host this Fair came from the Dominican Order that petitioned Pope Alexander IV who, an­swering their request, published a special bull in

1260 establishing the Fair. Merchants took heed of the Pontiff’s decision and soon began trad ing with goods from all around the world. In no time Gdańsk became one of Europe’s most prosper ous port cities. The Dominican Fair grew along side the city to become the largest such event of the Old Continent. The gloomy years of World War II and post­war communism saw an end to the cen­turies­long tradition of hosting the Domini can Fair in Gdańsk. However, this interruption proved to be only short­lived and the Fair was re vived in 1972. With a celebrated past to look back on, the threshold for restoring the Fair to its for mer glory seemed to pose a colossal challenge. Over time, however, generations of organisers have brought the Dominican Fair back to its right ful place. Every summer the Old Town of Gdańsk is home to over a thousand stalls, each and every one of them laden with unique goods. Local crafts men,

artists, and antique dealers would not allow them­selves to miss the opportunity of being present at the Fair. This is, by a wide margin, the best place to look for Polish and Gdańsk rarities and trea­sures lying hidden within the treasure troves of an­tiquities that lurk in basements and attics of Pomorskie’s oldest dwellings. It is no wonder then that philatelists, numismatists, collectors of post­cards, antiques and all things vintage, rush to Gdańsk during the time the Fair is held. No doubt they recognize it as the ultimate opportunity to improve their collections by selling, purchasing or trading items. Some of those collectors may in fact be hunting for the holy grail of their respec­tive fields.

Moving away from the mysterious, slightly dusty, yet nonetheless captivating, realm of antiquities to other highlights of the Fair, we should head straight for the stalls serving and selling specialties of the local cuisine. Why not help yourself to some of Pomorskie’s finest pastries, a multiple variety of cheeses, nalewkas (a traditional local liqueur), beers and many more traditionally prepared del­icacies representing various Polish regions and beyond. Gourmets are in for a real food fiesta! With their needs close to the organisers’ hearts, special culinary events accompany the Fair – Fishmarkt, Polish Meat Fest (Świętomięs) and Bread Fair.

Beyond any doubt, the Fair is a splendid mar­ketplace, but it’s actually even bigger than that – it is also a festival. Its programme of cultural events encompasses and brings to life every corner of the Old Town of Gdańsk – you will never get bored during the three weeks of the Fair. Music lovers will be delighted to hear that the Fair’s pro­gramme includes 40 concerts with music ranging from classical, through folk, jazz, rock, alternative to opera and carillon festival. As if this range was not already likely to cause even a seasoned events­enthusiast a minor headache, the Fair stages theatre and comedy performances, strong­man competitions and two runners’ events: the International St. Dominic’s Race and Solidarity Marathon. The Fair’s organisers have not over­looked their youngest visitors and have prepared something that will surely grasp their attention – the Bajkowisko (Fairy Tale Land) festival runs throughout the entire period the St. Dominic’s Fair is held. Let the numbers speak for them­selves – the number of visitors to the Fair tops the population of Norway and is steadily rising. St. Dominic’s fair exudes a unique allure that ensures its magnetic appeal to tourists. Let us put it this way – it would be a shame if you were to visit Po­morskie during summertime and miss out on one of Europe’s most outstanding events.

Par at the Sierra Golf Club in Pętko­wice is 72, which is no picnic. It is one of the most prestigious master class courses in Europe. An area of

over 80 ha makes it possible to organize profes­sional tournaments, as well as amateur events. This should come as no surprise. The man re­sponsible for the project is Cameron Sinclair, a Scotsman and an expert on the subject. After all, who knows more about playing golf than the Scots?

Although this elite sport has not been in Po­land for long – the first courses appeared at the beginning of the 20th century – it has rapidly been gaining recognition and making up for lost time. And we have to live up to expectations: the former Bad Sazbrunn (today called Szczawno Zdrój) attracted the European elite. Today, in­terest in golf is not uncommon. Mini golf courses pop up like mushrooms, which allows more and more people to become aware of the specifics of the lifestyle this sport has developed over the years. Foreign players are attracted to Polish courses by sharp prices and a wide range of ser­vices. For example, the Sierra Golf Club offers its players the ingenious “Golf GPS” ­ an 11 inch LCD screen and wireless communication device that includes maps, distance, player’s localization, results and even game tips. The whole course is equipped with a modern diving range, putting,

chipping and pitching greens. In the Club House you can really feel at home ­ if the weather does not allow an outdoor game, meetings and golf simulator tournaments are organized here. This explains the increasing interest in membership – today, the Sierra Golf Club has almost 300 members for whom golf is not just a sport, but also a way of life. And as the number of members increase so does the players’ levels. And, after all, this is what golf is all about.

The Sierra Golf Club is not the only option for amateur golfers. There are two more courses in the immediate neighborhood of Gdańsk – Postołowo Golf Club and Sand Valley. The first, only 28 km from the capital is Jeremy Turner’s crowning glory and one of the more interesting facilities in the area. An area of 100 ha and its many facilities speak for themselves. The 2002 U­21 Team European Championship and 2008 European Amateur Championship took place here on behalf of the European Golf Association. Amateurs will feel at home here as well ­ it is not necessary to be a member to try your luck. Sand Valley, thanks to Tony Ristole, boasts architecture that blends into the mo­raine landscape and provides its unique charac­ter. Don’t waste your time ­ grab your clubs and head off to the course!

No wonder the coast of Pomorskie has been labeled as “The Polish Riviera”. Not only is it a coast of youngest sand dunes

at the world’s youngest sea, but also it can boast of top-end and fast growing tourist infrastructure.

The obvious tourist hubs here are Gdynia, Sopot and Gdańsk. Three distinct visions blended into three styles of seaside leisure: the naval,

the artistic and the relaxed, easy­going one. But do not let this fool you. There is much more to see here. The 316­kilometer long coastline is sur­prisingly diverse. In addition to the breathtaking dunes we can find sheltered bays, sandy beaches, jagged cliffs and dense forests.

Making all these accessible to the constantly growing number of tourists has proven to be a major challenge. Pomorskie has avoided falling into a trap of overdevelopment. Instead of in­undating the coastline with concrete, most of

it consists of well­preserved wilderness dotted with well­de veloped resorts. We have both tradi­tional and avantgarde perspective on welcoming anyone at our coast: classical, naval and elegant but chantey places and artistic, care­free and eased ones, light as the breeze we have here. Plenty to do, no matter if you wish to go into the wild or experi ence the high­life of Gdynia, Sopot or Gdańsk.

The award­winning, futuristic pieces of architecture stand along nu­merous examples of post­industrial revitalization and well­preserved, early Modernist structures. While all this is admittedly stunning, it may seem a little boring. Nothing can be further from the truth, though. Gdynia is well­know for its stylish leisure infrastructure. The undisputed tourist centre is located within the nearest vicinity of the Seaside Boulevard and the Kościuszki Square. A military­style concrete pier with museum ships moored at its side lies right next to one of the Tricity’s most popular beaches.

The nearby Gdynia Marina is a landmark for all sea lovers. Numerous yacht clubs gather yacht owners, coxswains, apprentices of the art of sailing as well as the enthusiasts of a wide range of water sports. Modern and high quality infra­structure is perfect for various sailing events, including European and World Championship or the Tall Ships’ Races.

For those looking for more indoor yet still marine entertainment, we recommend visiting the neighbouring cafés and restaurants. The oldest and most popular one is Contrast Café. Sopot represents a completely different ap­proach to tourism. It is the Polish party capital

Välkommen till Polens Riviera!Det är ingen slump att Pommerns kust ibland kallas ”Polens Riviera”. Här finns milsvida stränder, underbara sanddyner och en snabbt växande ström av turister.

De självklara turistnaven här är Gdynia, Sopot och Gdańsk. Tre fritidsstilar vid havet – den båtintresserade, den konst­

närliga och den avslappnade. Men det finns också mycket annat att se här. Den 32 mil långa kustlin­jen är förvånansvärt mångskiftande. Utöver de hänförande dynerna finns skyddade vikar, sand­stränder, spetsiga klippor och täta skogar. Att göra alla dessa tillgängliga för det ständigt växande antalet turister har visat sig vara en stor utmaning. Men Pommern har undvikt den fälla som följer av överexploatering och därför över­svämmas den vackra kusten inte av betong, utan består till största delen av väl bevarad vildmark med utspridda välutvecklade turistanläggningar. You will be impressed by one of the permanent ex­hibitions ­ a great pool with remote­controlled yacht and ship models. If you have always wanted to become a sea captain, this is your chance! Without a doubt, a particularly inter­esting part of the tour is the Boats of People of the World exhibition, where you can see 41 boats from several different countries. From a Venetian gondola to Samoan or Bangladeshi vessels. After you have finished the round of science and history, it is always a good idea to satisfy a child’s sweet tooth. A perfect place to do so is CiuCiu candy manufacture, where you can indulge yourself in handmade, on­the­spot, artistically decorated jelly beans, candy and lollipops in different shapes and flavors.

Gdynia

Gdańsk has a ZOO and Gdynia, as one might expect from a real marine city, an aquarium. A magnificent, underwater world is home for water­dwelling animals from Africa, North America or Europe. Here, you will find water creatures from all around the world. Three floors house more than 1500 animals from 250 different species in 68 exhibition tanks. The inhabitants include: giant green anacondas, the largest live coral reef in Poland, several species of sharks and the audience’s favorite ­ the Giant Pacific octopus, Karolina. You can also take the tour with a private tour guide that “speaks” En­glish and German. When in Gdynia, you should find time to visit Centrum Nauki Experyment (Experyment Science Center). This unique

scientific playground, stretching more thant 3,500 square meters, lets small and big explor­ers learn about the natural laws that guide our world, close themselves in a bubble, experience an earthquake or take a peek into the animal kingdom. You cannot miss Kolibki Adventure Park if you like adrenaline. It has been founded by and for active leisure amateurs. Even the youngest ones will find here challenges worth their while. The children can visit the Indian Village, rope courses, take part in a Paper Chase game or roam the park on quads.

Another must­see in Gdynia are the floating museums – Dar Pomorza and ORP Błyskawica. The former is the legendary

“White Frigate” that had traversed half a mil­lion sea miles, shaping characters of students of the Gdynia Maritime School. Now retired, anchored at a wharf in Gdynia allows the youngest aspiring sea dogs to stand behind its steering wheel. Błyskawica is the world’s old­est preserved destroyer­class ship. It was one of the most advanced ships that had fought during World War II. Today, it is part of Naval Museum and one of its many worthwhile attractions. Its main buildings are located in direct neighbor­hood of Gdynia’s most popular promenade – the Sea Boulevard. 3,000 sq. m. house exhibits depicting the history and tradition of Polish naval forces. Right next to it is the Museum of the City of Gdynia that shows its rich collection of exhibits in an interesting, often multimedia, form that will enchant any little history lover. You can have a glimpse at interwar period va­cationists and “travel” from one time period to another through the interior of Gdynia’s char­acteristic trolleybus.

There’s little to match a refreshing dip in the water on a warm and sunny day. At least not for the kids. This is why Sopot aquapark is one of the best places to take your family to. There are two great pipe water slides for the kids to play ­ a 110 meters long yellow pipe and the ex­tremely fast blue one. But the biggest attraction of them all is the only wild river in Poland, which faithfully reflects the impression of swimming in a natural mountain stream. 71 meters long and 6 meters of height difference between levels can provide hours of non­stop fun. Parents can enjoy themselves at the same time by swimming in one of the pools or relaxing in the sauna or jacuzzi. After drying up, another stop is Grodzisko Archeological Museum that is, in fact, a reconstruction of an old settlement that had once been here. A place particularly interesting during the summer season when many different events, dedicated to arousing interest in the past times, take place. Many different competitions, workshops and shows allow you to learn many new things, such as pottery or archery.

And in the region...

When it comes to spending quality time with your children, Pomorskie is a land of plenty. You do not necessarily have to limit yourself to Tri­city only. Smaller towns also have much to offer. So much that naming them all would

require at least one separate article. There are several, however, that have to be mentioned. Ocean Park Władysławowo offers a mag nificent journey into the world of the most interesting inhabitants of oceans, represented by figures of whales and gigantic turtles. All of them are perfect imitations of impressive size of the real animals. Sea Park Sarbsk (near Łeba) is a good idea if you want to experience more sea life live. It is an accurate reproduction of the trade settlement that played a crucial role in amber treatment and trade during the peak of the Roman Empire.

Gdynia, som är en riktig hamnstad har förstås ett akvarium där man kan se djur från värl­dens olika hav, till exempel från Afrika, Nord­amerika eller Arktis. Tre våningar hyser 68 utställningsakvarier uppdelade i fyra biotoper

På Centrum Nauki Eksperyment – Veten­skapscentret Experiment i stadsdelen Redłowo, kan de yngsta lära sig mer om vetenskapens fascinerande värld och leka samtidigt. Ve­tenskapscentret utgörs av fyra utställningar i modern miljö, som på ett enkelt, roligt och lä­rorikt sätt förklarar hur vår värld är uppbyggd.

Vill man höja adrenalinnivån ska man bege sig till Adventure Park Kolibki, en plats för både stora och små som älskar aktiv avkopp­ling. Barnen kan besöka indianbyn, klättra i lin parken, leka tjuv och polis, och åka fyr­hjulingar. Detta och mycket annat garanterar

en rolig dag med mycket lek, självklart under professionell personals uppsikt som ser till att säkerheten alltid kommer först.

Sopot

Under varma dagar är det få saker som uppskattas mera än ett dopp. Aquapark i Sopot är ett popu­lärt äventyrsbad och spa där hela familjen kan trivas. Här kan man åka roliga vattenrutschbanor och tumla runt i vildfloden. Den är 71 meter lång och har 6 meter stora nivåskillnader. De vuxna kan simma i bassängen, bada bastu och koppla av i bubbelpoolen.

Arkeologiska Museet Grodzisko är en rekon­struktion av en by som fanns här på 800­ och 900­hundratalet. Platsen är ett populärt utflykts­ mål under sommaren, då här anordnas olika fes­ter och festivaler. Här arrangeras tävlingar, verk­städer och uppvisningar där man till exempel kan lära sig att dreja eller hantera en riktig pilbåge. I närheten

I Pommern finns det mycket roligt för barn att göra, och då inte bara i Gdańsk, Gdynia och Sopot. De mindre orterna erbjuder också många härliga aktiviteter som tex Władysławowos Oce­anpark, där man kan se valar, jättesköldpaddor och flera av de mest intressanta djuren som lever i världshaven. Man kan också se havsdjur på Sea Park Sarbsk (i närheten av Łeba). Här finns sälar som simmar i bassänger, ett förhistoriskt Ocea­narium och 5D­bio. Miniatyrälskare har två Dino Parker att välja mellan, en i närheten av Sea Park i Łeba och den andra i Malbork. Båda är spännande och värda att besöka. En annan rolig plats är byn Szymbark, där kan man bland annat gå in ett hus där allt är upp och ner…

Pomorskie is well­knownfor its excellent cycle lanes. No one says you can’t get off the beaten track, though.

Kids love culinary or clay workshops and it isn’t very hard to find one around.

Som­martid är gator och torg, stränder och uteser­veringar fyllda av människor och liv. Här finns en fantastisk 4,5 kilometer lång sandstrand som är full av aktiviteter, och på nöjesgatan Monte Cassino ligger restauranger, kaféer, vinotek och barer med hög designfaktor tätt. Alla med sin egen unika inredning, prägel och atmosfär. Både mat och service håller en mycket hög nivå och här kan man verkligen unna sig den lilla extra lyxen till halva priset jämfört med hemma.

Always fresh fish “straight out of the net” that come to the restaurant directly from night fish­ing or duck prepared using the sous­vide tech­nique are certain to surprise event the most sophisticated of palates. The flavors of Kashubian region come from local,

domestic breeds and farms.

Itis a magical place, where time seems to pass a bit more slowly than in the rest of the world ­ maybe because of pristine natural

surroundings and distance from big cities, or the innate calmness of its inhabitants. Whatever the reason, one thing is certain – Kashubia will make your rest a better experience than any other place. If you value nature, you will cer­tainly appreciate it. Those that prefer less active forms of rest can spend their time by the lake. The active ones have a variety of choices: walk­ing trails, cycling routes or boats and canoes for rent. Culture enthusiasts will not be disap­pointed as well ­ Kashubian people love their cul­ture as no other do. If you visit the region, you have to listen to local music, see the handicraft and – most of all – try out snuff. This is an ex­tremely popular way of taking tobacco by inhal­ing it in a powdery state. It came to Poland from France, where it had been introduced thanks to close contacts with Indians. All of Europe saw it being replaced by chewing tobacco and later – smoked tobacco. All of Europe? No, Kashubia is a region in Poland that has not forgone snuff. What is more, it has become even more popular. Inhabitants quickly developed their own snuff ing customs and local snuff is recognized by to bacco experts and connoisseurs all around the world as a high quality product. Well then, since you are in the neighborhood it would be offen sive to re­fuse a host treating us to a pinch. If you want to show your knowledge of the subject, you should put snuff on the top of an outstretched hand, be­tween the thumb and the wrist. And re member – sneezing is for newbies!

The region is plenty of characteristic meals that are served in many agritourism farms scattered across the region. The flavors of Kashubian region come from local, domestic breeds and farms. Hosts will happily treat you to their homemade wares – freshly baked bread, sour milk or fluffy yeast­cake. Enough said, in times of mass production these are considered to be luxury produce.

If you would like to enjoy the beautiful scen­ery of the region there is no better place to do that than the highest glacial hill in the area – Wierzyca, located near Szymbark. Here, from a special viewing platform, you can admire the wonderful view. While in the area it would be a great loss if you missed the Centre for Educa­tion and Regional Promotion in said Szymbark. It is famous for its unique attractions and, at the same time, is a sort of memorial to the past of Poland and the Polish people. It is here that you can see the world’s longest wooden board that was submitted to Guinness World Records. However, its most renown location is the up­side­down house where both your bony laby­rinth and imagination will go insane. Of course, there is much more to be seen and visitors have the opportunity to learn all about the region’s culture and tradition.

A tip: The region is vast and quite poorly com­municated. This is why it is best to rent a car – it saves a lot of time.

Oavsett orsak – i Kasjubien har du alla möjligheter att varva ner och njuta av närheten till naturen. Här kan du till­

bringa hela dagar nere vid stranden, fiska eller bara ligga i gräset och lyssna till vindens sus. Väl­jer du en mer aktiv semester finns det vandrings– och cykelleder att upptäcka, och möjlighet att hyra båtar och kanoter.

Vill du utforska den lokala kulturen kommer du inte att bli besviken. Befolkningen är stolta över sina traditioner. Detta återspeglas bäst i musiken, hantverket och den lokala luktsnus­tra­ditionen. Blir du bjuden på snus är det klart du tackar ja. Vill du imponera, lägger du en nypa snus i den lilla inbuktningen på handflatans över­sida mellan tummen och pekfingret. Men kom ihåg – att nysa avslöjar att du är en nybörjare.

Regionen är också känd för sitt rustika kök. Brödet bakas på syrad mjölk, allt är närproduce­rat och kommer oftast från närmsta gård.

Vill du komma upp och blicka ut över stora delar av Kasjubien, gör du det bäst i närheten av orten Szymbark. Från Wieżyc bergstopp får du oförglömliga vyer att bära med dig hem. När du ändå är i Szymbark så passa på att besöka hem­bygdsmuseet Edukacji Promocji Regionu. Besö­ket blir en spännande lektion i Polens intressanta historia. Här finns också ovanliga sevärdheter som världens längsta planka (prisad av Guinness Rekordbok.) Och ett upp­ och nervänt hus som ger fantasin och barnasinnet fritt spelrum. Det finns såklart mycket mer att uppleva i Kasjubien, men det gör du nog bäst själv.

Bra att veta: Kasjubien är en stor region. Vill du uppleva hela regionen kan det vara bra att ta med sig bilen över till Polen.

Kasjubien är en av det mest färgstarka re-gionerna i Polen. Här finns en fantastisk blandning av kultur, tradition och folkliv. Landskapet är format av den senaste istidens slitningar. Detta för med sig att naturen i regionen nästan känns drömsk. Här upplevs tiden gå lite långsammare än i övriga världen. Kanske beror det på den vackra naturen, avståndet till storstadens buller eller det naturliga lugn som genom-syrar allt här.
