Was a decent discussion. Many of the point got repeated over and over again.

The questions were based on my family business and what I was doing there. Thiswas for around 3 mins.

They mentioned about my weakness from my reference letter and we talked on it foranother 2 mins.

U r already into business why waste time doing an MBA and why don't u do it fromISB (I am from Hyderabad). This one was again a good 3 mins chat.

It was a funny interview. There wasnt anything in it which'd go well or bad for thatmatter. They were laughing at everything. I must have had looked funny. Even I waslaughing....

I arrived at Shangri La very early and devoured a full plate of biscuits(as usual idint eat anything in the breakfast).chatted with ppl.4 of them i already knew thanxto boot camp and Pagalguy. Read the newspaper chatted with those who had theirinterviews in the morning but didnt get to know anything in particular. I was feelingweird coz every girl in there wore a business suit and i was the only 1 with Indian

apparel.

Then at 2.30, they came inside. 1 taught operations at IIMB 1 entrepreneurship, 1systems and 4th was a finance guy. They read out the list. Much to my chagrin, Iwas the last 1 :(

GD: Case Study

Then, once inside, we were given the case study. 10 mins for reading, 15 for

discussion and 10 to write down the summary......

It was an ethical case study. A student, Gyaani, university topper had been caughtcheating in the placement exam. Principal is in dilemma whether he should give thegold medal to him or not.

Well, as usual (just cant help it), I opened.1 guy opened with me but backed out as Ididnt shut up. I continued and gave a decent beginning then ppl started. 1 did give1 or 2 important points.

I wrote down every point and nodded my head a lot esp when I felt that theoperations guy was looking at me, then I used to nod vigorously!! I think I was theonly one nodding :D

The grp did reach to a kinda conclusion that gold medal should not be given and 3ppl had said that. Then I dunno why but I was asked to summarise. I was wonderingcoz I had contributed a lot but still did a decent job. then he goes- "Has Yashaswi[name of the candidate] left out anything?" A guy started but another girl, NikitaSood (there were just 2 gals, me and her together, other grp had all guys) broke inbetween and rather than summarising what I had left, she gave her own view. Theguy said-"Is this what Yashaswi has left out or this is your own view?" She mumbledsomething I didnt get........

The case study was over and I was pleased with my performance. We had to go for

the interview after a break of 15 mins. We had tea and I had more biscuits :) but Ihad 3 hrs to my disposition coz I was the last in the grp of 8.

Well, it started and nothing particular was asked. A guy named Abhishek, whom Iknew thru Pagalguy had a weird interview - he was asked how much he drank, whatdid he drink, which brand, what did his girlfriend think of him, how he'd manage longdistance relationship et al.

My turn came at 6.05. I was bored liked anything.

INTERVIEW

I entered, wished them and sat down.

Oldie: Ha, a doc. I love docs. I want diversity at IIMB but it doesnt make anysense. Yashaswi,why,why,why?????????? Why do you want to waste your medicaleducation?

Me: blah blah blah

Oldie: You know Yashaswi, how you have answered. You watch those contests wherewomen dance in nice clothes? You do?

I squealed- sir, Ms World...

Oldie: Yes, Ms World. Do you watch it, Yashaswi? Your answer's like that. Aphilanthropic mission after getting the best. I ask you - what do you know abouthealth system in India? Do you know anything?

Me: Yes sir, I know a lot blah blah blah.........

Oldie (interrupting): Have you been to rural areas, Yashaswi? You said you wannago....

Me: I told them abt my research and VC. He was pleased.

Oldie: So, you know a lot eh why dont you just go ahead and open it now?

Me: blah blah blah

All this time the young man was continuously smiling, staring at me.

Oldie: So, in the case study, did you guys arrive at 1 conclusion? You have written inthe summary.

Me: Sir, we did.................................

Oldie: Will you give the gold medal to him?

Me: Sir, I'll get an enquiry done........

Oldie (interrupting): Enquiry revealed nothing. Now will you?

Me: I'll talk to him.

Oldie: He doesnt like you. He didnt talk. Now, will you?

Me: No sir, I wont if he has cheated.

Oldie: But nothing has been proved.

Me: But sir, the recruitment company...............

Oldie: They are a fraud company. They are lying. Now will you?

They laughed.

As usual, I calculated the wrong answer. He laughed.

Oldie: Are you tired, Yashaswi? You must be used to coming in the last....due to yourname.

Me: blah blah blah.......................

They laughed......... very loud.

Oldie: Je ne comprendre pas francais (I dont understand French.)

Me: I mumbled something.......

He laughed.

Youngie: Do you have any questions for us?

Me (finally taking control): Yes sir, I am wondering why arent you asking me torecite 1 of my poems since I am a state level champion...........

They laughed.

I was wondering if I looked funny or my hair were done badly.........

They laughed.......

Our group:

We were 16 of us in our group - 11 work-ex fellas and 5 freshers. All the work-exfellas had an average experience of around 3 years... There were only two girls inour group - One was an M.B.B.S graduate and the other a work-ex girl!

GD: Case Study

We were divided into two groups of 8 students each... Both the girls were in mygroup (For me that was not a lucky sign as girls tend to dominate the discussioneasily). The Case Study involved a simple-looking case. We were given 10 minutes tostudy it and 15 minutes to discuss. We came up with a main-plan very quickly and Imanaged to give 6-7 relevant points... I was happy with my performance...

Interview

You may feel that this is absurd, but they were really, really cool... This was evenbetter than the one I went through to get a job in Accenture. There were two peopletaking the interview - I'll refer to them as Mr. A (The taller bearded guy) and Mr. B(The shorter guy), both professors at IIMB.

Here is the exact detail of the interview that took place. It was around 20-25 minuteslong. I was waiting outside for my turn and then:

A (coming out of the room): Varun Reddy, please come in.

Me: (faintly speaking) Thank You Sir.

(I went straight in... I made a mistake by not wishing them inside. I sensedthat it was better to be informal as it was a very cool atmosphere, but notthat informal!)

A: Please take a seat, Varun.

Me: Sir, in that seat?

A: No, in that one (Points to a seat)

Me: Thank You Sir.

(I sat down, hands on my folder and my folder on my lap... I kinda sensedthey wouldn't read my CV anyways, so I did not offer it to them)

A: You mentioned in your SOP that winning "Prodigy" in your college was the highpoint in your career so far. What is this Prodigy anyway?

Me: Sir, in many of our college quizzes, we have a team of three students. ButProdigy is a solo quiz. We are on our own and have to fight it out ourselves.

A: Ok.

(Just then, the tea-man comes and asks them if they want some. They replyin the positive. Then, they ask me)

B: Would you like to have some tea?

Me: No Sir, Thank you.

(Then I had a minor shock!)

B (Looking down at some pages, probably my recommendations and mytranscripts): Tea thisuko ("Have some Tea" in Telugu)

Me (replying in English): No Sir, Thank You.

B (still looking down): Tea thisukovali kada (Telugu - "You should have tea")

Me: No Sir, I don't drink tea, Thank You.

(Silence for a few moments)

B: Mee Patricks porolu andaru awaragalu... Roadla lo thiruguthuntaru ("YouSt.Patricks fellas are all loafers, just roaming around in the streets") [Nameof the candidates school.]

Me: Sir, that's the case with only a few students. There were still some of us whowere studious in nature. I was also very studious at school sir.

B: You were studious? Joking aa?

Me: No sir, I was very studious and competitive as I did not like anyone to overtakeme in terms of marks.

B: But your marks are very poor in 10th? (I had scored only 87.5%)

Me: Thats because my handwriting was very poor, Sir. I did very well in my pre-

boards.

B: But still you scored less in the boards?

Me: Yes Sir, but I was one of only two students in my school to have scored 100 inMath.

B: Really?

Me: Yes sir.

B: Kani nuvvu Patricks kada? Pakkana St. Anns, St. Francis loki elli linekottevanivanukunta? (But still, you were in Patricks, surrounded by St. Annsand St. Francis - all girls schools. Surely, you must have gone to theirschools to flirt?)

(Now this was a bit too much, but I gave them an answer straight in theface) Me: There was no need to go to their school, Sir, we used to do everythingfrom our balconies itself. (I never did that, but certainly tried!)

B: Ha ha ha... (Laughing)

(After a few moments... )

A: Varun , you said that quizzing is your hobby. What do you quiz on?

Me: Sir, general trivia stuff...

(Suddenly B starts a Rapid-fire round)

B: Trivia, eh? What is Sehwag's Average?

Me: Sir, 56 - may be.

A: In what?

Me: In Tests...

A: And on ODIs?

Me: I'm not sure Sir, it's around the mid-thirties, I'm not sure of the actual figure.

B: What did Ambani do before Reliance?

Me: He was into coin-melting in the Emirates (Just said something like that... Iwas not sure if it was correct or not!)

A: Still, tell me the answer to what I asked.

Me: Yes Sir, as i wrote (in my SOP), I look at things from various perspectives andnot just from a single angle - I do not specialize in any field, even in Trivia. I feelthat whenever anyone is considering the solution to any problem, I can providemany different viewpoints to arrive at a logical and complete solution.

(Silence for a few moments...)

A: You watch movies, right? What kind of movies do you prefer?

Me: I mainly prefer watching Sci-fi stuff... the ones that show the future of mankind...

A: You mean like Star-Trek, the kids' stuff??

Me (coolly): Yes Sir, that kind of stuff... (I was cool now. I knew they weretrying to make me angry... but I did not show any emotions!)

B: Which movie did you like the most?

Me: Serendipity, the one I saw very recently sir.

A: But that's not a sci-fi movie?

Me: Sir, I said I mainly prefer sci-fi stuff, but I watch movies depending on mymood... It was a nice romantic comedy (And for a moment, I really felt likemeeting Kate Beckinsale face-to-face).

B: So you felt it was a nice comedy where was the comedy in the movie anyways?

Me: Sir, if you put yourself in the hero's shoes and imagine the situation, it becomesvery funny and entertaining.

B: So what do you feel about the ending of the movie then?

Me: It shows that what is written in your fate will happen to you...

A: So you think it is written that we will take you to IIMB with us?

Me: Possibly, yes!

A (smiling): So you liked the movie a lot, eh? You must have liked the heroine too,right?

A: So, which one would you prefer?

Me: Well Sir, I would prefer the first one... because as I said before, someone hascreated all of us... The guys who support the theory of Evolution, well, they also talkabout the big-bang that started it all... but then they can never explain what was thestarting stuff - the stuff that exploded to form the universe as we see it today. Theremust have been someone who created that stuff...

A: But it was just there...

Me: No Sir, me as a human being cannot comprehend something like that - like thisglass on the table, this chair - (I was pointing to those stuff!) - All these were

made by someone, they did not come out of thin air like that - Puff - by magic. Inmy limited capacity as a human being I feel that someone has created thisuniverse...

(Now, I was getting a bit tired of all this, still I managed to maintain mycomposure!)

B: So how are you feeling now?

Me (smiling): A bit relaxed...

B: How were the others feeling? Did you ask them?

Me: Not much sir, they came out of the room just as they went in....

Me: I was a bit nervous then, but now I am feeling nice....
