FOOD HYGIENE LEGISLATIONFrom the Food and Safety Act 1990 there are now Food Hygiene Regulations in force and Schedule 1 chapter V111 covers personal hygiene. Here retail food handlers are instructed on safe food handling hygiene and it is under this

regulation that the use of disposable gloves comes into play at food retailer points of sale, where both food and cash is to be handled.

Both paper and the new polymer banknotes as well as all coins can harbour many forms of bacteria and it is for this reason that the handling of both cashand food, with or without gloves, should be avoided.
