The world of Battalion Wars has a turbulent history, served byglobal conflict and only briefly interspersed with periods of tense, nervous peace. Over time, the great armies of the Western Frontierand the Tundran Territories have fought each other to a standstill.

They now abide by a treaty guaranteeing mutual sovereignty, their two vast empires separated only by a thin strip of landa Demilitarized Zone. Both sides monitor each other closely, primed to retaliate in the event of a preemptive strike.

Gorgi, Tsar of the Tundran Empire and supreme commander of its

military forces, will soon pass the reins of command to his sonand heir, Marshal Nova.

The Marshal has a more modern outlook than his father, and withNova in charge, some dare to dream that a real and lasting peacemight yet be possible

But on the other side of the DMZ, General Herman of the WesternFrontier is spoiling for a fight; its been too long since Frontiertroops saw combat.

Brigadier Betty has a plan to get the men fighting fit and keep aneye on the Tundrans at the same timethis is where you come in,as special Battalion Commander for the "Fightin Frontier"!

Against an airb orne target , Missile Vet erans aredeadly. The sight of that distinctive curving smoketrail means freedom for troops pinned down byenemy aircraft. But the missiles are easilyconfused by ground scatter, against land-basedunits they cannot achieve lock-on and simplyspiral out of control.

Nothing strikes fear into an opponent more than thesight of a Flame Veteran advancing through cover toclose quarter combat range. Amongst tightly packedgroups of infantry they are the most devastatingtroops available, but against armored vehicles theycan do little more than scorch the paint.

Bazooka Veterans are ideal for dealing with the

threat of enemy tanks. A few well-placed highexplosive projectiles can turn even the mostimpressive battle machine into a heap of smokingjunk. Unfortunatel y their proj ectiles have a very lowmuzzle velocity which makes them relatively easy tododge for more agile enemies.

The Herman Mk5 light tank has been the standardbattle tank of the Western Frontier for some yearsnow. Its latest iteration sees it armed with a single100mm cannon and a short-range heavy machine

gun. Despite its relative high speed and mobility, its light armor means this tank is easily vulnerableto a Bazooka ambush.

Equipped with the new twin barreled anti-tankcannon and two Hubert and Cumbernald anti-personnel machine guns, the Herman M1A5 MainBattle Tank, or "Hermanator" as it is affectionatelyknown, packs a mighty punch. Like the Mk5 however, this unit can still fall prey to enemy RPGs despite itsceramic laminate armor.

The MX-500 is the Western Frontiers fastest LightAttack Ve hicle. Its speed and maneuverabil ity makeit ideal for its role as the armys "roving eyes." Withno armor to speak of and just the one rear mountedHMG on the base model, this vehicle should avoidentanglement wherever possible.

The Humbug heavy recon vehicle is armed withdual- turret, pintle-mounted .50 caliber HMGs. It ismost effective at fast, stinging raids againstinfantry. While its maneuverability can make itcapable of avoiding enemy rockets, its light armorleaves it susceptible to HMG fire.

The Prometheus AIM-9RR mobile missile platformfires a barrage of 8 deadly IS-III Silverfish anti-airmissiles. With a highly explosive payload anddeadly accuracy against air targets, this unit is thescourge of enemy air forces. The AIM-9RR is unableto radar-lock low level targets, and hence is wildlyinaccurate against ground units.

The self-propelled "Preacher Pk-772" artillery piecehas the longest reach of any Western Frontiervehicle. Its cumbers ome movement is more thanmade up for by the power and range of its 88mm, lowrecoil cannon. Despite the fitment of a mountedHMG, it is advisable to keep enemies at a distancewhere the pr imary cannon c an be brought to bear.

The Valentine B-58, (or "Vandal" as it is affectionatelyknown) has an armor-skinned fuselage and a deadlypayload of fuel-air bombs that can pulverize groundtargets in an instant. However, without fighter escort,
