You are strongly advised to purchase a copy of the textbook as it contains most of the tutorial tasks you will need to complete in the unit tutorials - copies are available in the Students' Union Building, Oxford Road ( Portland Books).

Tutorial outline

The detailed briefing for each tutorial will be uploaded to Moodle one week before the tutorial –print this off and bring to your tutorial.

You must bring your textbook to each tutorial in order to be able to complete the tasks.

Each tutorial will begin with a student led review of the lecture – be prepared!

Aims of this tutorial

To explore students’ knowledge and expectations of GCMB, and to clarify tutorials and assessment.

To introduce the nature of the unit, explore themes and issues through the lens of the Higher Education sector, in particular MMUBS.

GCMB Assessment

2 assessments:

1) A written essay of 2500 words to be submitted in the first of the Spring Term. The mark awarded for this assessment will contribute 40% of the overall mark for the GCMB unit.

2) A time 2 hour examination in the Summer Term. The mark awarded for this assessment contribute 60% to the overall mark for the GCMB unit.

Group activity …

In groups of 5/6, discuss, and note down your responses to the following

1. What is a business? Identify all the businesses involved in MMUBS.

2. Businesses transform resources into goods and services. Give examples of transformation processes taking place at MMUBS.

3. What environmental influences affect MMUBS (consider pestle).

4. What ‘costs’ and benefits are associated with MMUBS’ transformation process – consider opportunity cost.
