The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is expected to become the main global fund for financing climate change mitigation and adaptation measures. As of 27 th May 2016, the GCF had pledges of a total of US $10.3 billion dollars. The GCF Readiness Programme is funded by the German Government and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the World Resources Institute (WRI) in collaboration with the Government of Fiji. Its objective is to support Fiji in strengthening its national capacities to effectively and efficiently plan for, access, manage, deploy and monitor climate financing in particular through the GCF once it is fully operational. The private sector has been identified as a key area for support.
