Lighting Equipment Maintenance Step by Step

To switch on the lighting equipment…

Firstly make sure the lighting desk is where you want it and plug in the power cable for the desk and plug in the DMX cable and make

sure it is connected to the rig but do not switch it on.

Secondly switch on the dimmer pack and ensure that the dimmer has power. These switches can be found at the back of the hall.

Then, switch the lighting desk on and to test the lights put all the sliders. Then all the lights should come on.

*If they don’t come on, make sure the grand master and memory master are both up*

**If the lights still don’t come on, seek technical assistance**

Step by Step Guide to Fix the FaultFirstly before you switch anything on take a visual assessment of the rig. Ensuring that every light has a safety chain. A safety chain is attached to the adjustable arm and the rig. Safety chains can be found at the back of the hall.

Ensure each light has a g-clamp which is secured tight to the rig and the adjustable arm of the light. Spare adjustable arms can be found at the back of the halls.

Also ensure that accessories like barn doors are secured properly to the light . If they aren’t secure they could fall off. They fit into the slots on the front of the light. Spare barn doors can be found at the back of the hall.

Also on particular lights like CCT Fresnel’s ensure that the lamp tray is not hanging out because this could lead to the bulb falling out. You screw it back in by using a flat head screw driver.

Then if you can’t see a fault visually then switch on the lights following the procedure above.

If a light doesn’t work ensure that is plugged in to the dimmers. If it isn’t plugged it won’t work. Each light has a number and the corresponding number matches a numbered 15 amp plug.

If a light doesn’t work go up to the light its self and check the bulb hasn’t blown. You can tell the bulb has blown if the filament has broken or snapped or if the bulb is blackened. If this is the problem then take the light down and replace the bulb.

If the light still doesn’t work and the bulb is fine try plugging the light into an extension lead or a different plug. The fault maybe the socket. If so find the technician and report the fault.

If it still doesn’t work by plugging into another socket then take the light down and check the plug. You may need to rewire the plug. Then put the light back in the rig and see if it works.

If the light still doesn’t work take the light down, report the fault and report it to the
