Cheque Standard Stock Size New cheque standard stock size is 8.25 inches by 11 inches.

Logo Same as per current stock set-up — if you print your own logo then there is room to print the same logo on the new stock. If the logo is pre-printed for you then Citi will continue to print the logo going forward.

Pre-Encoded/Non-Encoded Cheque Stock

Same as current stock set-up — Citi will provide the new stock either pre-encoded or not based on your current process/set-up.

New stock provision First set of new stock will be provided to you free of charge. Subsequently cheque stock can be ordered in the same way as it is currently done today.

1.1 Stock All cheque base stock must be supplied by an Accredited Security Cheque Printer. The name of the accredited printer must appear on the face of the cheque, in full or abbreviated form, together with the accreditation number. This information must be printed vertically on the furthermost left part of the cheque in a small but legible font. It must be clear of the clear band. If practical, the date, e.g. month and year, of production should also appear.

This will be handled by Citi and will be pre-printed on the cheque stock.

1.2 Stock The NatWest name/logo as shown below must appear on the face of the cheque, preferably near the top-middle of the cheque.

Amount Box

2.1 Amount Box

An Amount Box is required within the restraint area. The Amount Box within the restraint area must be positioned with its lower internal edge 44.5 mm and its upper edge 54mm from the bottom reference edge of the cheque. It must measure 41mm wide by 9.5mm high, ensuring that it remains positioned with its right-hand internal edge 5mm from the right-hand reference edge of the cheque.

This will be handled by Citi and will be pre-printed on the cheque stock.

Note new position of amount box and adjust printer settings accordingly.

2.2 Amount Box

The amount in figures should be preceded and followed by two asterisks and left-justified in the Amount Box taking care that the leftmost asterisk does not touch or overwrite the £ symbol which is to the left of, and just outside, the Amount Box. The amount should not include commas and the pounds/pence separator should be a hyphen. Where the amount, together with double asterisks, is too large to fit in the Amount Box, then single asterisks may be used.

Note new amount in figures formatting requirements and make changes to your cheque template/format accordingly.

2.3 Amount Box

There must be a Pound Symbol (£). It must be printed in OCR-B character style and must measure 4mm in height. This must be centred vertically, outside and to the left of the Amount Box at a distance of no greater than 1mm from the left-hand internal edge of the Amount Box.

This will be handled by Citi and will be pre-printed on the cheque stock.

Do not print GBP in the amount box as the £ symbol is pre-printed on the cheque stock.

3.1 Sort Code

A full and valid six-digit National Westminster Bank Plc Sort Code Number is required within the restraint area (2 inches from the right edge of the cheque). The Sort Code must be positioned 76mm from the bottom edge of the cheque, ensuring that the right-most digit remains 5mm from the right-hand edge of the cheque. Sort Code in restraint area must be printed in OCR-B font. The sort code is: 60 — 00 — 01.

Client action required. Note position of restraint area and sort code requirements and make changes to your cheque template/format accordingly.

4.1 MICR/Code Line

Secure Ink must be used to print the MICR line (applicable for non-encoded cheques only). MICR/code line comprises all items listed below. The MICR/code line should be printed in the 16mm clear band at the bottom of the cheque stock designated for the MICR line.MICR Font details:All UK cheques use the E-13B font. (The “13” in the font’s name refers to the 0.013 inch grid used to design it.) Besides decimal digits it also contains the following symbols:

(transit/symbol 10: used to delimit a bank branch routing transit number) — Please see figure 3: Additional Image to explain. (amount: used to delimit a transaction amount). (on-us: used to delimit a customer account number). (dash/symbol 13: used to delimit parts of numbers, e.g., routing numbers or account numbers) — Please see figure 3: Additional Image to explain.

The left-most field is the Auxiliary On-Us. It usually has the check number in it. The next area (to the right) is the Transit field. This identifies the bank or institution. Next (to the right), is the On-Us field, which is usually the business or person’s bank account number.

Applicable for clients using non-Pre-encoded cheques but Not Applicable for clients using Pre-encoded cheques (as pre-encoded cheque stock is supplied by Citi).

No client action required as pre-encoded cheque stock is supplied by Citi.

For clients printing their own MICR line on non-pre-encoded cheque stock, please note the MICR line requirements and make changes to your cheque template/format accordingly.

4.2 MICR/Code Line

A full and valid six-digit National Westminster Bank Plc Sort Code Number is required within the Code Line. The sort code is: 60-00-01

Applicable for clients using non-Pre-encoded cheques but Not Applicable for clients using Pre-encoded cheques (as pre-encoded cheque stock is supplied by Citi).

4.3 MICR/Code Line

Bottom edge of MICR Code Line character to lie at a vertical distance of no less than 4.76mm and no more than 7.9mm from bottom reference of the cheque.

Applicable for clients using non-Pre-encoded cheques but Not Applicable for clients using Pre-encoded cheques (as pre-encoded cheque stock is supplied by Citi).

4.4 MICR/Code Line

4.5 MICR/Code Line

Code line: The symbol 12 (C) to the right-hand side of the Account Number must measure 2 7/16” (62mm) from the right-hand vertical edge of the cheque. Please see figure 3: Additional Image to explain.

4.6 MICR/Code Line

A six-digit Serial Number (based on what serial numbers are assigned to the client when stock is ordered) is required in the MICR Code Line.

Clearing Requirements

6.1 Clearing Requirements

The area on the bottom left-hand corner measuring 13/10” (33mm) vertically up from the Bottom Reference Edge, and 3½" (89mm) from the left-hand edge (Vertical Reference Edge) must be kept clear of all print or dark colours to enable the beneficiary bank's endorsement to be read.

Client action required. Note position of the area on the cheque that needs to be kept clear of all printing and adjust your cheque template/format accordingly.

6.2 Note: Sample 1 below would be relevant to clients who have their own logo and Sample 2 below would be relevant to clients who have no logo.
