The First Bus Map of Dhaka

Data collection is not easy – especially on moving buses. Our top qualities for a good flock is one that 1) share your values, 2) rides the vehicle that you are looking to map, 3) can mobilize quickly, and 4) gives brutally honest feedback. Jackets help too.

In Dhaka, a physical bus sign may be the best way to reach bus riders. In Nairobi, SMS. Your final info-products should guide your data collection process and not the other way around.

While sometimes the best tools will be pen and paper, mobile devices like smartphones and tablets make data collection easier to monitor and manage esp when you have a large flock. They also can be programmed to simultaneously collect data that is automatically sensored and human sensored like crowding.

What is Custom Map? Custom Map is one kind of Google Maps which we use to show our own Loca3ons, Paths or anything else. Like, you have a large Company which has many branches and different loca3ons. Now you want to let your customer show all your branch loca3on in a Map which is not possible by making a full new map. Google Earth & Maps solved this problem by giving an opportunity to make your own map and to share that with the world!

Go to Google Maps @ h`p://maps.google.com/ and then find your Area Loca%on. Log in with your Gmail account & click on My Maps and then click on Create New Map Bu`on.

How and Where?

Hope you got it how & where to start. Now make your own map. But actually why we are doing this and how we can use this? •  You can plan your event & distribute informa3on to par3cipants

•  Generate a map loca%ng your organiza%on's branches across the country or across the globe for anyone to see.

•  Map out your volunteer base and geographically plan objec3ves for reaching out.

You can use this map in your web site or can share the direct link of the map to your targeted people!

How we mapped Cyclone Shelters? When we heard that there are a Database of all cyclone shelters of Bangladesh, all mappers started work. But we faced problems with GPS loca3on data. Mr. Kazi Monirul Kabir, Country Consultant of Bangladesh helped us by providing all loca3on data in Binary format of Chi`agong District. Right aher that, we mapped the 604 Cyclone Shelter of CTG within 25.5 hours! Our expert RERs mapped these shelters together by choosing individual Sub-‐Districts and Unions. It’s a team work which made this possible and now people on the project are s3ll mapping out cyclone shelters in remaining 15 coastal districts, but the project has decelerated having no CSID spreadsheet for other districts shared with us yet.
