    Introduction:The ProVantage Glass Block Installation System isthe easiest way to install Pittsburgh Corning PremiereSeries (4" thick) Glass Block, and get professionalresults. There are two methods of installation -ProVantage I and ProVantage II. Here is additionalinformation about each method.

    ProVantage I: (page 3) This method is used to install straight walls in

    4-sided openings. In this method, glass block panels are installed in

    perimeter channel. The maximum opening size for exterior panels is

    50 square feet. The maximum opening size for interior panels is

    In this method, glass block panels are secured tothe wall using special wall anchors.

    The maximum opening size for 4 sided exteriorpanels is 50 sq. ft.

    The maximum opening size for interior panelsframed on at least 3 sides is 85 sq. ft.

    Interior panels framed on 2 sides can be amaximum of 60 sq. ft.

    Before you begin installing your glass blocks, decide ZKLFK LQVWDOODWLRQ PHWKRG DQG MRLQW QLVK RSWLright for your project.

    The materials required for ProVantage glass block installation are:

    I1. Prepare The Opening Or Curb

    A. Make sure the openingis the correct size. UseWKH WDEOH EHORZ WR QG WKH

    C. Measure the opening diagonally from cornerto corner in both directions, and compare thedimensions to check for squareness. Thesedimensions should be equal within 1/8".

    Note: If there are any problems with the opening or curb,adjust it before proceeding.

    2. Install Perimeter Channel $ &XW WKH FKDQQHO WR W WKH SHULPHWHU RI WKH R

    The channel ends may be cut straight or mitered.a. If cutting the ends straight:

    Cut the side channels to the height of theopening.

    Cut the top and bottom channels the widthRI WKH RSHQLQJ PLQXV VR WKH\ ZLOO Wbetween the side channels.

    b. If mitering the ends, make all cuts at a 45 angle.

    C. In the bottom channelapply two beads of sealant the full lengthof the channel a 1/4"in from each side.

    D. Place a glass block in the side channeland slide it into thebottom channel.

    E. Apply four 1/2"diameter dabs of sealant to the side of a block behind theraised edge, 1/2" infrom each corner.

    H. Insert the next block tight against theYHUWLFDO VSDFHU

    I. Continue inserting spacers and blocks in thismanner to complete the row, but do not applysealant to the side of the last installed spacer.Insert the last block in the side channel and slideit into the bottom channel.

    K. Apply two 1/4" beads of sealant to the top of therow of blocks just behind the raised edges.

    5 Install TheSecond ThroughNext To Last Row

    A. Line up your second row of glass blocks next to your opening. Apply two1/4" beads of sealant to the top of the blocks, justbehind the raised edges. Always apply sealant tothe block, not the horizontal spacer. These blocks

    B. Install the second row: Start the row from the opposite end. For

    C. Install the remaining rows in this manner until youreach the last row. Check each row for alignmentYHUWLFDOO\ DQG KRUL]RQWDOO\

    6. Install The Last Row A. Line up your last row of glass blocks next to your

    opening. Apply two 1/4" beads of sealant to the topof the blocks, just behind the raised edges.

    B. Apply a 1/4" bead of sealant horizontally along thetop inside leg of the half channel at the top of theopening, where the faces of the blocks will contactthe channel.

    C. Slide one block with sealant applied into the right jamb and one block into the left jamb.

    D. Install the remaining blocks in the same manneras before, except do not apply sealant in the lastYHUWLFDO MRLQW ,QVHUW WKH ODVW VSDFHU DIWHUthe last block.

    E. Apply a 1/4" bead of sealant horizontally acrossthe top of the opening 1/2" from the face of theglass blocks. This sealant line will be used tosecure the second half of the top channel.

    F. Apply a 1/4" bead of sealant along the top insideleg of the second half channel.

    G. Slide the half channel into place between theblocks and the top of the opening. If necessary,temporarily apply a piece of tape to the channel tohold it in place until the sealant sets.

    D. The curb must be as wide as, or wider than, theglass block thickness (4" or wider).

    waterproof.

    G. If your project has 3 or4 sides, measure diagonally from corner to corner

    in both directions and compare the dimensions tocheck for squareness. These dimensions shouldbe equal within 1/8".

    H. If there are any problems with the opening or curb,adjust it before proceeding.

    2. Test Fit The First Row A. Cut horizontal spacers for straight sections of the

    wall.a. For straight walls between two jambs or one

    jamb and a shaped block, cut the horizontalspacer 1/4" shorter than the nominal dimension.

    ANGLE CURVE

    Note: If it is necessary to have a joint in the horizontal VSDFHU WR H[WHQG LW WR W WKH ZLGWK RI WKH VHFWthe joint will align with a vertical spacer. Stagger these jointson each following row.

    b. For straight sections between one jamb and anEndBlock , cut the horizontal spacer 1" shorterthan the nominal dimension.

    c. For straight sections between a shaped block and an EndBlock , cut the horizontal spacer3/4" shorter than the nominal dimension.

    d. For EndBlock , t rimthe end of the spacerWR W WKH VKDSHby cutting the twocorners at a 45 angle3/4" from each corner.

    B. Insert an anchor intothe ends of the horizontalspacers wherethey meet a

    jamb.

    C. Place thespacer in the bottomof the opening, centered in thesection. DO NOT install with screws.

    horizontal spacer. Place the spacer in the bottom of the opening,

    centered under the ARQUE block location.There should be a 1/2" tapered to 1/4" gapbetween straight sections of spacer and theshaped spacer.

    E. 90 angled wall sections: 5HPRYH WKH EDUEHG WDEV IURP D KDOI +('521

    horizontal spacer. Place the spacer in the bottom of the opening,

    centered under the HEDRON block location.There should be a 1/2" gap between straightsections of spacer and the shaped spacer.

    F. 45 angled wall sections: 5HPRYH WKH EDUEHG WDEV IURP D KDOI 75,'521

    horizontal spacer. Place the spacer in the bottom of the opening,

    centered under the TRIDRON block location.There should be a 1/2" gap between straightsections of spacer and the shaped spacer.

    G. Install theUVW URZ RI blocks andYHUWLFDOspacers,starting withD YHUWLFDOspacer in the

    jamb.

    H. There areVSHFLDO YHUWLFDOspacers forshaped blocks.Be sure to insertthese spacersbefore, betweenand aftershaped blocks.

    , 7KH YHUWLFDO VSDFHUV IRU +('521 and TRIDRON

    EORFNV DUH DW WKH VSDFHUV IRU $548( blocksare tapered. The smaller end is placed at the back of the ARQUE EORFN 7KH DSSURSULDWH YHUWLFDOspacers are packaged with the shaped horizontal

    spacers.16

    L. If necessary, insert shims under the horizontalVSDFHUV WR OHYHO WKH URZ 8VH D DW EODGH VFUHZGULYHUto lift the horizontal spacer as you insert shims.

    M.Place a horizontalspacer withanchor insertedinto the ends, onWRS RI WKH UVWrow.

    N. Mark the locationof the anchorV notch on the

    jamb. If your wallhas two jambs, mark the anchor locations on both

    jambs. These marks will be used to draw a plumbline on the jambs.

    P. Trace the outline of the horizontal spacers andmark the shim locations.

    4 8VLQJ D OHYHOdraw a plumbline on the jambsthe height of thepanel, startingin the V notch of the anchor. This

    will be the centerline for all theanchors.

    3. Install The First RowStraight sections:

    A. Apply two 1/4" beads of sealant to the curb, 1/4"inside the traced outline of the horizontal spacers.

    B. Replace shims in the marked locations.

    C. Reinstall thebottom horizontalspacer, withanchor inserted,pressing it downinto the sealant.Do not attachthe anchor withscrews.

    D. Line up the blocksthat will be installed on top of the horizontal spacer.

    Apply two 1/4" beads of sealant across the top of the blocks, just behind the raised edges. TheseEORFNV ZLOO EH WXUQHG RYHU ZKHQ LQVWDOOHG VR WKHsealant beads

    will contactthe bottomhorizontalspacer.

    Alwaysapply thesealant tothe block, notthe horizontal spacer.

    G. Apply four 1/2" dabs of VHDODQW WR WKH YHUWLFDOspacer, 1/2" in from eachcorner. Install the nextblock with the sealantbeads down.

    H. Continue installing blocksDQG YHUWLFDO VSDFHUV LQ WKLV PDQQHU XQWLO \RXthe last slot in the straight section. DO NOT applysealant to the side of the last block that meets a

    jamb or shaped block.

    I. If your project is a straight wall with two jambs,FRPSOHWH WKH UVW URZ E\ LQVHUWLQJ D YHUWLFDOspacer, with no sealant applied, between the lastblock and the jamb.

    - &KHFN WKH UVW URZ IRU OHYHO OHQJWKZLVH DQGcrosswise, and adjust shims as needed.

    K. If your project has shaped blocks, continue with6WHS / WR FRPSOHWH WKH UVW URZ

    N. Apply a 1/4" bead of sealant around the raisedimpression of the shaped, half horizontal spacer,and attach it to the bottom of the shaped block.

    O. Apply a 1/4" bead of sealant around the insideperimeter of the traced outline of the half spacer.

    R. Apply four 1/2"dabs of sealantto the side of theshaped block,1/2" from each corner,DQG SUHVV D VSHFLDO YHUWLFDOspacer into place.

    S. Install the remaining horizontal spacers, blocksDQG YHUWLFDO VSDFHUV WR FRPSOHWH WKH UVW UR

    7 0DNH VXUH WKH UVW URZ LV VWUDLJKW SOXPE DQlengthwise and crosswise. Insert or adjust shimsas needed.

    8 ,I \RX KDYH SURSSHG D WHPSRUDU\ [ DW WKH HQGof your project, make sure it is plumb, and theblocks are aligned correctly.

    V. If your project has shaped blocks, assemble theKRUL]RQWDO VSDFHUV WKDW W RQ WRS RI WKH UVWinserting the barbed tabs of the shaped spacersinto the slots in the straight spacers or adjoiningshaped spacers.

    4. Install The Remaining Rows A. Apply two1/4" beads of sealant on topof the straightsections of WKH SUHYLRXVrow of blocks,

    just behindthe raised edges. If your project has shapedblocks, apply a 1/4" bead of sealant around the topSHULPHWHU RI WKH VKDSHG EORFNV LQ WKH SUHYLRXV URZ

    B. Install the horizontal spacers, with anchorsinserted in each end that contacts a jamb, on topRI WKH EORFNV 0DNH VXUH WKH VSDFHUV W UPO\ RQthe glass blocks. Press the spacer down onto thesealant.

    C. Align the Vnotch in theanchor withthe plumbline drawn onthe jamb, andDWWDFK WKH DQFKRU XVLQJ WKH VFUHZV SURYLGHG LQthe anchor pack. If your project has two jambs,be sure to attach theanchors at each end.

    ' 5HPRYH DQ\ H[FHVVsealant from theKRUL]RQWDO DQG YHUWLFDO

    joints. Adjust the size of VHDODQW EHDGV WR SUHYHQWsqueeze out (keep jointarea clean of sealant). Donot change the location of the beads of sealant.

    Straight sections:E. Line up the blocks that will be installed on top of

    the horizontal spacer and apply two 1/4" beads of sealant across the top of the blocks, just behindthe raised edges.

    $SSO\ IRXU GDEV RI VHDODQW WR D YHUWLFDOspacer, 1/2" from each corner, and press i t intoSODFH RYHU WKH DQFKRU $SSO\ IRXU GDEV RI VHDODQW WR WKH YHUWLFspacer, 1/2" in from each corner.

    Install a block with the sealant beads down on theKRUL]RQWDO VSDFHU SUHVVLQJ LW UPO\ DJDLQVW WKH

    Apply four 1/2" dabs of sealant to the side of theEORFN IURP HDFK FRUQHU DQG SUHVV D YHUWLspacer into place.

    * &RQWLQXH LQVWDOOLQJ EORFNV DQG YHUWLFDO VSDin this manner until you reach the last slot in thestraight section. Do not apply sealant to the sideof the last block. This is the side of the block thatmeets the jamb or shaped block. If your projecthas shaped blocks, skip to Step M.

    with no sealant applied, between the last block andthe jamb.
