NUTSHELL REVISITED
By popular demand, Jay
Warshawsky will repeat his review of
Nutshell by Ian
McEwan on
Tuesday, July
24, at 3:00 p.m.
in Auditorium
AB. The book,
according to
Jay, is a clever
contemporary
version of
Shakespeare’s
Hamlet.
The narrator is an unborn baby who
overhears his mother and her brother-
in-law as they plot to kill his father and
take over ownership of the father’s
dilapidated but valuable London
house. From his confined location
within his mother’s womb, the baby
attempts to thwart these actions.
McEwan’s story elaborates on
Shakespeare’s sequence, and its ending
becomes something of a cliffhanger.
Jay Warshawsky and his wife Carole
Pollner have lived in Goodwin House
since 2016. Jay is a Chicago native
and a lifelong fan of the Cubs. He
studied electrical engineering at
Illinois Tech, Purdue, and
Northwestern, and has had a career in
research and development.

ITALIAN FILM UPCOMING As usual, the next Foreign Film
Night is the last Sunday of the month,
Sunday, July 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the
auditorium. The selection is a 2006
Italian film called "Golden Door"
which takes
place in the
early part of the
20th Century
and depicts a
poor Italian
family as they
undertake the
arduous journey
to the United
States via
steerage across
the Atlantic, then encounter the entry
procedures at Ellis Island - which
could be welcoming or not so
welcoming. As we all know too well,
these days immigration is very much
in the news, and this film reminds us
of how immigration back then differs
from our current troubled times. A
discussion will follow the
screening. The Russian film "Burnt by
the Sun", originally scheduled for July,
will be shown at a later date.

COMPUTER CENTER Do you ever need to look something
up online
and don’t
have a
computer,
or do you
need to
have
something
printed? Did you know that GHA has
a Computer Center? Located on the
G1 level, just across from the pool.
The Computer Center has four desktop
computers and one printer. It is open
24 hours a day.
EBI SUPPORT GROUP Support Groups are formed so
individuals who have a shared
experience can express their feelings,
gain mutual support and discuss
coping strategies. As the months pass
and the construction continues at
GHA, we thought it might be helpful
to have a place to discuss how we are
coping. Please join Monica Thomas
on Tuesday July 24 from 1:30 p.m. to
2:30 p.m. in Auditorium A.

TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR BONE HEALTH Osteoporosis is the general loss of
bone mass. As a person ages, the bone
does not continue to build bone
mass. Therefore, to continue with
good bone mass YOU have to take
steps.
What can you do to have good bone
health?
Exercise daily — to improve the
strength of muscles but also to help
increase the density and mass of
your bones. Participate in weight-
bearing activities to help stimulate
bone growth, which slows the
progression of osteoporosis. Some
appropriate exercises are walking,
running, dancing, strength training,
and stair climbing.
Join a fitness class! Fun and Fitness,
Tai Chi, Core and Balance, Yoga,
and Line Dancing are fun classes
that can help build and maintain
bone mass.
Eat a diet that contains nutrients
that help promote good bones, such
as fish, leafy greens, poultry, dairy
products, and nuts.
Taking care of your bones is very
important. Be sure to exercise more
and eat healthier to maintain the health
of your bones.

FROM THE MARKETING & SALES TEAM TO ALL GHA RESIDENTS – THANK YOU! Our most grateful thanks go to all
our residents who supported the Living
Comfortably event last Saturday. Our
community welcomed 175 guests who
are exploring life plan communities for
their futures.
We appreciate your understanding
that we need to catch up on Open
Houses after construction delays.
Events contribute vitally to occupancy,
and we have been unable to hold any
at GHA for over a year.
We hope everyone noticed the
significant clean-up at GHA this past
week to make your home more
attractive – even during construction –
and a more inviting community for
those considering GHA. It’s also
important to note the work of the
Resident Grounds Committee reflected
in the colorful annuals at our two
entrance signs and the beds of annuals
planted on the large bank of ground as
you come up Fillmore Avenue.
We offer a very special thanks to our
resident volunteers for the event:
Greeters and hallway guides:
Rosie Robbins + Anne Kress + Bobbie
Whittier + Joan McCulla + Betty
Wallace + Robin Barbee
Residents whose homes were open to tours for guests to “oooh and
ahhh”:
John and Khacki Berry + Betty
Cranwell + Betsy Raymond + Gwen
Scheffel + Helene Schrott + Tom
Sproull + and soon-to-be residents
John and Judith Roach (Apt. 104)
Residents who participated on the
resident panel discussion:
Judy Andrews and Dan Botticello
(GHA residents)
Judith Roach (Judith and her husband,
John, who move into GHA July 24)
Nancy Randolph (GHBC resident – as
this was a joint marketing event for
GHA and Goodwin House Bailey’s
Crossroads)
We also are deeply thankful for all
our residents for welcoming our
guests. Our future occupancy depends
on older adults joining GHA, and
events like the one on Saturday are a
primary source of new residents.
With our heartfelt gratitude —
The Marketing & Sales Team
