Gay Marriage Essentials: What You Need On

Your Wedding Day

In a perfect world, a gay marriage would be

legal everywhere. But since we are living in

a less perfect one, then adjusting to the

present society is what everyone can do—

especially gay couples.

The politics about gay marriage might

never end, but the long wait for a

fabulous wedding day is over. Even if

there are states in the U.S. that still do

not allow gay unions, you can still

have a ceremony that will make a

statement about your commitment to

each other.

The things you need for a long lasting gay marriage may not be available everywhere, but

all the necessities of a gay wedding are just within your reach.

Wedding Cake

Who gets married without a cake? No matter how small the ceremony is, there should be a

cake. It is a small token that you can even bring home with your partner to celebrate the first

day of your gay marriage. What is important is the cake top. Of course there should be two

brides or two husbands on top of your cake. Here is an example:

Wedding location

So, in which part of the world

can you proclaim that you are

having a gay marriage

without having to deal with a

party pooper? There are

actually a lot of places where

gay marriage isn’t so much

of an issue.

Key West Florida

This is where the artistic

gays and lesbians want to

start their life together. After all, gay marriage is often dubbed as the union of two rainbow-

colored souls. Be poetic and check out Ernest Hemingway’s home, or stroll along the city and

enjoy theater, music, and art. You can also enjoy nature and have the wedding near

the beach.

Napa Valley, California

California is probably the place where you can be as gay as you can be. Gay marriage is

respected in this state because this is where the activists fought real hard to have equal rights

alongside heterosexual couples. Since a gay marriage is never without wine, then a gay

wedding should be filled with it. Napa Valley is perfect to share wine with your invited guests

because it houses 400 wineries.

Las Vegas, Nevada

If you want to go extravagant and make your wedding day the most memorable in all the

days of your gay marriage, then get hitched in Vegas. If you have the cash to burn, you can

even invite Cirque de Soleil to your reception. But if that’s too much for your pocket, you can

still catch them at the theater and get front-row seats.

Honeymoon Destination

Hawaii

If a gay marriage is bound to last, then it should have started in Hawaii. There is no other

place in the world where you can relax, unwind, and enjoy your first weeks as a married

couple other than Honolulu. It even has a weekly catamaran cruise, held by Hula’s Bar and

Lei Stand – exclusively for gay people.

Wedding Officiant

Of course it is widely known that not all ministers agree to officiate a gay wedding. But

don’t lose hope. Some wedding officiants are still pro gay marriage, so you will still have

someone facilitate your wedding. If you get tired looking for one, you can easily go to

Ontario, Canada. They have lots of wedding officiants that favor gay marriage.

Wedding Dress or Wedding Suit

You can go traditional, or you can go contemporary. The choice is yours. After all, you better

start making decisions of your own since you are looking into a long-term commitment

when you enter a gay marriage. Men usually choose conventional suits, while women opt for

dresses. In other cases, one woman wears a suit—as in the case of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia

de Rossi.

Wedding Planner

While you think you have your wedding and your gay marriage all planned out, you

thought wrong. You would still need someone to guide you in making choices about the

invitation designs, photo and video coverage, food at the reception, flower arrangement, and

so on.

Engagement Party

While this is not necessary, it can still bring an energetic vibe prior to the wedding

ceremony. Just be sure to avoid anti-gay marriage activists crashing your party.

A gay wedding is just a small part of a gay marriage. The ceremony is just a symbol of

telling the world that you are ready for gay marriage. It may not be an easy road ahead, but

having the guts to publicly affirm your commitment to each other through gay marriage is

another form of coming out of the closet, and you should be proud of yourself for doing such.
