INTRODUCTION

o Gautam Adani founded The Adani Group in 1988 and Adani Group is one of the largest import export corporations in India.

The core businesses of the group are coal trading, commodity trading, edible oil manufacturing, mining,Mundra port operations and distribution of natural gas.

Apart from its core businesses, the Adani Group has also diversified into Real Estate, Ports, Special Economic Zones and IT enabled services.

o Gautam Adani is an Indian entrepreneur who has led the Adani group from a modest background to create a $8 billion professionally managed empire in a relatively short period of time.

He is said to be among the 100 most influential businessmen worldwide in the shipping trade and developing shipping related infrastructure.

Adani group covers more than 50 companies under it including adani enterprise,adani port and adani agri,adani energy and mining etc.

EARLY LIFEo Gautam Adani, Indian businessman and Chairman of

Adani Group, was born in June 24,1962 in Ahmadabad, India to a Gujarati Jain Family.

o He did his schooling from the Seth C. N. Vidyalya school in Ahmadabad and enrolled at Gujarat University but he dropped college in 2nd year.

o Instead of joining father’s textile business,at the age of 18,came to Mumbai and started career to working as a diamond sorter in Mahindra brothers for 2 years and at the age of 20, he started his own diamond brokerage outfit at zaveri bazaar.

After one year, his elder brother Munshkhbhai opened a plastic unit in Ahmadabad and handed over the responsibility to him.

Soon, he began global trading by importing important raw material of manufacturing plastic, Polyvinyl Chloride.

He purchased Beechcraft jet in 2005 and after two years he purchased Hawker in 2007. Since 2007, he has been the Chief Executive officer of Mudra and Special Economic Zone Limited.

He is a first generation entrepreneur.

Adani group gives 3 per cent of its profits to the Adani Foundation. He is particularly proud of Adani Vidya Mandir, a school in Ahmedabad which admits only those children whose parents have an annual income less than Rs.1 lakh.

It is interesting to note that Gautam Adani was once kidnapped by Anees Ibrahim and was released only after his family paid Rs. 3 crore as ransom.
