    Hello Gators and Families!

    PTA MEETING TONIGHTOur PTA meeting for April is tonight at 7:15 p.m. in the GLC. As always, you are invited to attend. Our agendafor tonight involves discussing the upcoming WalkAround Event, the Nominating Committees report onnext years Board Members, and other upcoming events at the school.

    WALK-AROUND NEXT WEEK!Let the fun and the fundraising begin! The WalkAround event will be next Friday, April 13 th , 2012 .

    Gators, I sure hope you are busy talking to your family, friends and neighbors andcollecting pledges so that you can raise funds for our school. Parents, pleaseencourage your child to collect pledges, make a resolution to walk as many laps asthey can on the day of the WalkAround, and to bring their pledge sheets back toschool.

    Students will earn one token for every $5 they raise for Garden Gate. This meansthat if your child raises $50, he/she will get 10 tokens to put into t he raffle boxesfor the prize of their choice! This year, three Grand Prizes will be awarded to thetop three fundraisers. The First Prize is an XBox 360, the Second Prize is an iPodTouch, and the Third Prize is a Nintendo 3DS. There are many more raffle prizes tobe won in addition to these. Please visit the PTA website and click on the WalkAround link to see a complete list of prizes, download a pledge sheet, or get more information.

    We need several volunteers on the 13 th to help with distributing food, counting money, or helping studentswhile they walk their laps. Please email either Azmeh Malik at [email protected] orUma Kishore at [email protected] if you can help out. Thank you!

    PARENT SURVEY DEADLINE APRIL 8!Every year we look to parents in our community to letus know what we are doing right at Garden Gate andhow we can improve. We value your thoughts andopinions. This is your time to be heard. You can take

    the survey online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/takethis. You can also access the survey from theGarden Gate website or the website from your childsteacher. If you prefer not to take it online, please comeinto the office and get a copy. Once you complete thesurvey, have your child turn in the last page to his or her teacher to get a colorful mechanical pencil. Thesurvey will close Sunday, April 8.     UPDATE EMERGENCY CARDSHas your work number or cell phone number

    changed? Please make sure that all EmergencyCards have been updated with current phone numbersand addresses. Your students Emergency Card mustlist the names of adults who are authorized to pickyour student up from school, including carpool drivers.We will only release students to those adultslisted . Please come into the office to add or removeany emergency contacts.

    ALLERGY SEASON HAS BEGUNSpring is here and students are reacting with swolleneyes and other allergy symptoms. Red irritated eyesare often the sign of pink eye which is a contagiousdisease. When students come to the officecomplaining of sore eyes, there is nothing we can doto alleviate the pain other than provide a coldcompress. We cannot diagnose the problem as either an allergy or pink eye a doctor must do this. If aprescribed or over-the-counter medicine is needed andis to be administered at school, the office must havea parent and doctor complete our blue medical form onfile before any medication can be given. Theseforms are available in the school office. Students maynot bring any medicine to school in their backpacks.

    All medications need to be in the original packagingwith the pharmaceutical label. All medicine is kept inthe school office.

    RESIDENC Y VERIFICATION All residency information is subject to verification. Validproof of residence must be provided at the time of reg-istration or when a change of residence occurs.Change of residence must be reported to the schooloffice within ten days. Failure to provide currentresidency information could result in the immediatewithdrawal of your child.

    BEFORE YOU MAKE TRAVEL PLANS At the end of the school year students must be inattendance on the last day of school to retain their place on the roster for the following year. For thisschool year, students must be in school on June 12,2012 to retain their space for the 2012-2013 schoolyear. At the beginning of the school year, studentsmust be in attendance on the first day of school,

    August 20, 2012 or they will not retain their place onthe roster. When you are making travel plans, pleaseconsider the possible ramifications. If you have anyquestions, please contact Student Assignment at (408)252-3000 ext. 110.

    HOME LUNCHES To encourage responsibility, children should bring their

    lunch with them to school in the morning. Werecommend that each child have some money in his/her lunch account so that in the event of a forgottenlunch, the child can purchase a hot lunch. Pleaseremember to mark all lunches brought to school withthe childs name and room number and place it on thecart outside the school office by 11:00 a.m. They willbe delivered to the classroom lunch cart by studenthelpers. Lunches cannot be delivered to the classroomor lunch tables by parents. Students are not permittedto wait by the office for parents to bring a lunch tothem. This is against our school safety policy. So besure to place the lunch on the cart before 11:00 a.m.Thank you for your cooperation.

    YEARBOOK SALES

    The 2011-2012 Garden Gate Yearbooks are now onsale! In addition to class photos and school-widecelebrations, the following will also be featured:International Day, Twin day, Flag Football, GeographyBee, Recycle Helpers, Cornerstone Kids, StudentCouncil, Teddy Bear Parade, After-School Theater,and 5th Grade Science Camp. Order the FULL-COLORED yearbook by Wednesday, April 11th for thespecial rate of $20.00! Additional order forms areavailable in the school office. Limited copies will beavailable in June for $25, so order now to ensure thatyour child has a copy for this school year.

    LOST AND FOUNDPlease stop by the Lost and Found cabinet that islocated at the rear of the administrative building andtake a few moments to check for your lost personalitems. It is full with lunch containers, hats and manyother items. For smaller personal items such askeys, watches jewelry, etc., please check in the frontoffice.
