Greater Bridgeton Area Transit More Than Just A Good Ride For Millville Man

Leonard Jones, from Millville, was already thankful for the Greater BridgetonArea Transit bus service. Without the bus, getting to work every day at SeabrookBrothers would be extremely difficult. The bus takes him right to the front door. Little did he know that GBAT would also enhance his television viewingpleasure when watching sports, particularly football. Jones had the winning raffle ticketfor a new, 60-inch, flat-screen, high definition TV through the Greater Bridgeton AreaTransit second anniversary raffle. GBAT, a Gateway Community Action Partnership program funded by thePascale Sykes Foundation, plays an important role in helping people get to work andjob interviews, make health care appointments and shop locally. "I was shocked when I found out I won the TV," Jones, 41, said. "I'll probablymount it on the wall in my living room. I watch football big-time, but I like all sports." Interestingly, this is the second TV won by Jones in the last year. He won onethrough the midget football league in Millville. While that was nice, this TV isconsiderably larger. Every work day, Jones takes a bus from Millville to a GBAT stop on Pearl Streetin Bridgeton. From there, GBAT delivers him to Seabrook for employment. "It's helped me greatly," Jones said. "Without it, I would have had to walk to

Leonard Jones, from Millville, with Albert B. Kelly, Gateway's President and CEO.

work once I got to Bridgeton. I like the bus. It helps a lot of people. There are always alot of people on it. We have some good conversations. And the people who drive thebus are good people. Very helpful." Robert Reaves, from Bridgeton, won the second place prize: a new computer.Tara Williams, also from Bridgeton, won the third place prize: a gift certificate to GreenOlive restaurant. For additional information on the Greater Bridgeton Area Transit (GBAT), call856-451-8920. GBAT is a collaborative partnership with Pascale Sykes Foundation, theCity of Bridgeton, Cumberland County Department of Employment & Training, GlenPark Apartments, the Cumberland County Guidance Center and Gateway CommunityAction Partnership.
