humans who act as
animals when faced by
desperation.
It has been depicted
as a chaotic world of six-hour traffic jams,
suffocating pollution,
horrifying sex trade, the
most densely populated
city of earth where sex is
a surviving trade, where
children many of whom
had been sold to pimps
by parents.
It has been alluded
to as the gates of hell
likely that the devils
reside in Manila and are
manning the gates to
eternal punishment by
fire.
These horrifying
descriptions of Manila
are written in a novel
Inferno by Dan Brown.
Are the portrayals of
Dan Brown true to the
present state of life in
Manila?
Brown writes true of
the six-hour traffic in
Manila. In fact, it is
annoying to travel the
streets from 6:00 in the
morning to 8:00 in the
evening, the rush hours
where vehicles are
moving turtle-pace byinch every minute in
traffic jams.
Brown writes true of
the suffocating pollution
in Manila. This is because
the vehicles or buses that
had been ordered
faceout by the
Department of
Transportation and
Communications are still
plying the streets without
fear of apprehension by
traffic enforcers, agents
of the Land
Transportation Office
(LTO) and Metropolitan
Development authority
(MMDA).It is undeniably that
Brown writes true of sex
trade in the Metropolis,
especially children sold to
pimps by their parents.
This sex trade is reported
daily in newspapers, TV
and radio networks.
There are also reports
about parents who sold
their children to

eventually traumatized by

of taking a Cab, So I was
sitting with my sister on
the air conditioned Bus
from Ortigas going home
to Alabang. Suddenly
People on the back started
to make noise and were
all surprised when theres
6 guys who declared hold
up.
Me and my sister was
so scared that time and my
sister was crying, They took
my bag with my wallet, my
ipad2, my samsung galaxy
note, and my sisters purse,

youngest holdaper who
happened to be on thelast get caught by some of
the passenger just before
he proceed to the exit and

trawler was fishing inwaters where the

zones claimed by both
two sides overlap.
The coastguard

shooting was an act of

CAR, 8th in Region 1, 9th
in Regions II, V, and XII,
11th in NCR, Regions III
and IV-A, and ranked 12th
IV-B.
Joseph Victor
Ejercito is the eleventh
proclaimed new senator
of the Philippines. He is
the present Congressman
of San Juan City where
also served mayor for
three-terms. JV is the
son of Mayor-elect
Joseph Erap Estrada and
2-termer Mayor Guia
Gomez of San Juan. He
ran for senator under
United National Alliance.
JV Ejercito is obviously
not as popular as what his
half brother Jinggoy and
father Erap had because
his name was none in the
magic 12 slate in CAR,
Regions V, VI, VII, and
ARMM. In terms of
territorial, JV only posted
9th in the National
Capital Region.

her into the 10th spot in
the recent 2013 midterm
election although her
name was not appeared

Antonio Fuentes
Trillanes IV is the 9th
Senator who won in the
recent election. Sonny as
known by his Mistah is a
Former Navy Lieutenant
of the Armed Forces of
the Philippines.
He is one of the main
figures in the Magdalo
movement who rebelled
the administration of
former President GMAs
administration in 2003.
He first ran behind bar in
2007 midterm election
under the United
Opposition and became
an independent senator
before he joined the
Nationalista Party. He is
also one of the nine Team
PNOY members who won
the 2013 midterm
election. Accordingly,
Senator Trillanes has
penetrated the magic 12
senatorial slate in all

Bautista Legarda is the
consistent top senator
that ranked in the Pulse
Asia and SWS surveys.Loren Legarda continued
to be a first placer senator
prior to the actual
election held on May 13,
2013, but appeared to be
the second upon the start
of counting of votes.
Legarda is a third termer
senator who also
dreamed to be the
second highest man in
the land. She was a
broadcaster and TV
personality before she
entered into the politics
in 1998 under Lakas-
CMD. She was also
known one of the
political butterflies in the
Philippine politics and an
advocator of awareness
in terms of climate
change as she toppedthe senate slate in the
Cordillera Administrative
Region.
Legarda is a member
of NPC and ran the
senate in the 2013
midterm election under
the bannership of Team
PNOY.
Mary Grace Poe
Llamanzares is
considered the dark
horse of the recent 2013
midterm election as no
one predicted then that
she would reached the
highest votes of the land
in the Senate race.
Grace Poe ranks
from thrid to fifth place
in the recent surveys
and has surpassed the
consistent 1st LorenLegarda upon the first
blast of votes casted via
data sending.
Nonetheless, Grace
may not be considered new
name in politics as her father
FPJ had almost reached the
presidency when he entered
politics in 2004.
Grace is not new to
politics. She is a graduate
of Political Science in
Boston College. She was
als a former student of
University of the
Philippines.
She was also a
teacher at one point in
the United States of
America before she
returns the Philippines
upon the death of her
father.Grace was the
Chairman of the Movie
and Television Review

Board before she ran
the senate under the
flagship of Team PNOY.
To sum it all, these are
the senators that will
complete the remaining 12
senators of the new 16th
Congress and accordingly,
the composition of a few

after Customs

Biazon conducted photo-
ops and sent press
releases to media outfits
for national publicity.
Short of raising his
fist to demonstrate his
all out war against rice
smugglers, Biazon
dec lared that No
matter how often they
try to smuggle rice into
the country, our
operatives will alwaysbe there to stop
them.
The s trong
message was
expressed in Biazons
poorly written press
release with a picture
of his on- the-s i te
inspection of the 22
container vans of rice
worth PhP12 million.
Also inspected was
one forty-footer
container van with one
(1) unit used Daewoo
Rezzo, one (1) unit Kia
Carens and one (1)unit Hyundai Sonata of
s t i l l undetermined
value.
All the imported
items were seized at the
Port of Davao by Customs
Intelligence Group
operatives under Deputy
Commissioner Danilo
Lim.
The imported items
were seized for violationof Section 2503 of the
Tariffs and Customs Code
of the Philippines (TCCP).
According to Biazon,
the hot rice shipment
were stuffed inside three
20-footer container vans
that were consigned to
three (3) different Davao
traders.
Accordingly, the ten
(10) container vans ofillegally imported rice
worth Php5 million from
Hong Kong were
consigned to Mactech
Industrial Machines &
Supply. The imported rice
was declared as stone
slabs and it arrived at the
Port of Davao on March
22, 2013.
Another 10
container vans ofimported rice worth
Php5 million from
Singapore were
consigned to Berthand
Enterprises. The
contraband which was
declared as Cellulose
fiber arrived in the Port
of Davao on March 23,
2013. The two (2)
container vans of rice
from Vietnam wereconsigned to All Systems
Logistics.
The imported
vehicles which came
from Korea were
consigned to a
forwarding company
named Phil ippine
Genesis Freight
Unlimited Inc.
The consignees of
these 20 container vansillegally imported rice
d e l i b e r a t e l y
misdeclared their
shipment to avoid the
required rice import
permit from the
National Food
Authority. Biazon said.
If we have to seize
smuggled rice each day,
we will do it, if only to
show how serious is theBOCs campaign against
smuggling. Biazon
added.
Biazon also recalled the
recent apprehension of over
1,000 container vans of
illegally imported rice at the
Port of Cebu. Biazon
reiterated his warning to
smugglers to watch out.

For his part Lim
explained that the Davao
smuggled rice seizure was
just part of several other
smuggled rice seizures by
IG operatives all over the
country.
Lim was grateful to
the people who are
helping the BOC on its anti-
smuggling campaign.We are happy and
thankful for the support
we are getting from private
individuals in our
campaign against
smuggling. The BOC is
happy that our anti-efforts
efforts are being recognized

No one will be sparedby our anti-smuggling
campaign.
Lims group has been
responsible for the
apprehension of several
other smuggled rice seizures
like the 1,000 container vans
at the Port of Cebu before
the mid-term elections this
year.
He also recalled the
94,000 bags of rice that were
seized at the Port Legazpi in
March this year.
With all the publicity on
the apprehension of the
imported smuggled rice, the
Bureau of Customs has not
released a statement of
where shall it take the tons
of imported rice.
Shall the BOC subject to
auction the seized imported
rice for the importers to buy
back?
Shall the BOC sneak out
the seized imported rice
from the holding centers?
Shall the BOC bury the
imported rice six feet below
the ground like what it
formerly did to seized farm
products that rot at the BOCcompound?
Or, shall the BOC
donate the confiscated tons
of imported rice to the
Department of Social
Welfare and Development
for distribution to the poor
and the needy?

Season as it launched
the NAASCU Volleyball
Season last January 30,
2013.
AMA Computer
University Titans has
clinched the championin Mens Division over
its best competitor

Scorpions on its best-of-
three championship
series via 2-1 held last
two months ago.
CEU has ended the
game through straight
sets, 25-23; 25-22; and
25-10 winning the
Womens Division of the
12th NAASCU Volleyball
Tournament.
That event was one
of the much awaiting
sports of the National
Athletic Association of
Schools, Colleges and
Universities.

seasonally takes place
event and Hiphop Dance

entire sports activities.
Coming this school
year of 2013-2014, the
NAASCU has promised
more thrill and exiting
