Gas Prices Hit Their Lowest Mark in Almost Five Years By: Abby Lafferty. March 3, 2015

The recent plummet in gas prices has Morgantown citizens running to the gas stations.

No one can deny that the lower gas prices have everyone feeling like they are finally saving some money on gas. For anyone with a car, gas is an essential part of life; you need gas to go to the grocery store, to visit grandma and a road trip home.

But not everyone is convinced that these unbelievable prices will stay where they are.

“ I definitely like them, I don’t think they’re going to stick, it’s pretty cyclical. Once weather starts getting nice weather starts getting nice people start doing a little more traveling, a lot more families get on the road, prices always jump.” Says Sean McIntrye, Morgantown resident.

“ Improvement in supply will be the longest and biggest issue facing gas prices. Where as demand will be the short-term problem. Because the economy is not growing rapidly there is a much less supply for oil. Which translates into lower gas prices.” Said John Deskins, West Virginia University economics professor.

Last month the average price for gas was $2.11. That is the cheapest monthly average since April of 2011.

Currently the price for a regular gallon of gas is $2.26 this is a big difference from the prices back in 2011. In May of that year gas hit it’s highest prices ever at $4.48 for a regular gallon.

We may see gas prices rise between thirty and fifty cents within the next few months. But many experts are hopeful that these prices will stay relatively low for consumers.
