Bu t I do believe strongly in th eOffice o f th e City Attorney a nd t he important role it plays inadvising your City Council on all matters of the law.Bu t th e Office of th e City Attorney ha s become a political animalthat hasn 't been good fo r Sa n Bernardino. It ha s become alightning rod of political gamesmanship, an d it has divided an dseparated City Hall.My starting point will always b e t he law - it is no t th e role of th eCity Attorney to influence public policy. I have no tolerance fo rpolitical infighting or political alliances. I intend to work with th eCouncil an d Mayor to provide th e best legal advice to all of them,an d work agains t none of them. Th e Saenz family goes back a full century in Sa n Bernardino, whenGary's grandparen ts took up residence o n 6 th S tr ee t n ea r Mount

Vernon Avenue in 1913. Gary's mother andf at h er w e r e ch i l dhood swe e t h e a r t s f ro m S a nBernardino High School, and Gary himself wasborn at Saint Bernadine's Hospital in 1951. Heg rew up playing Little League a t t he corner of 14th and Mt. Vernon, a nd g r aduat e d fromEisenhower High School in 1969.Gary earned h is Law Degree at UCLA beforereturning to his hometown to practice law. Hehas prac ticed law fo r over 35 years, servinghis community an d maintaining an unblemished
