Balancing Cost, Risk and Growth
The next 12 months will be tricky – among the most difficult of your career as a business technology executive. For most, initiatives to reduce enterprise costs, streamline processes and increase productivity will continue unabated. Likewise, you’ll still need to ensure business decision makers have the intelligence and systems necessary to address risk, including new risks associated with having cut too much. Finally, you need to refocus on preparing for growth, and all the investments needed to emerge from the economic downturn with a stronger competitive advantage than you had going into it.
Combine this now much more complicated environment with two more variables. First, you have to do all this with resources, both human and capital, that are leaner than most organisations have seen in many years. This is our “new normal” – the notion that the new economic environment has set a new, durable and lower baseline for how we evaluate projects and invest our limited resources. Second, you now have to plan when to shift your balance among cost, risk and growth optimally for your specific environment. Timing will be critical.
See what we mean about tricky? It almost makes the days when cost cutting was the clear goal seem attractive.
Symposium/ITxpo 2009 is designed to deliver you the insights, tools and relationships you’ll need to get through the trickiest year of your career. Timing will be critical; Symposium/ITxpo will show you how.

Enterprise ArchitectureEnterprise architects in high-performance organisations are responding to today’s challenging environment by strategically managing their IT costs while providing a platform for innovation. By moving beyond the old-school obsession with granular standard setting, and instead focusing on information exchange and business process management, enterprise architects are increasing their value to the business. Their holistic, business-first perspective is helping to supercharge the development of new business models and provide more precise measures for business value delivery.

This track will provide the latest research and timely advice on the specific issues faced by Federal, State and Local governments. We’ll explore how to align your IT strategies to the requirements of the organisation. How to use effective governance approaches.
