E-COMMERCE CONCEPT
PROJECT PROBLEM: Generate a facility program and design a
ten-thousand square foot E-Commerce office in Carbondale, IL.
PROJECT SOLUTION: Research has proven that there is a correlation
between workplace daylight exposure and office workers sleep, daily ac-
tivities and quality of life. Humans exposed to natural light are more posi-
tive, productive, and achieve a better sense of well-being. Encompassing
all directions of natural light, except direct exposure, into the design of
my project, I can achieve this goal of the contented, healthy office worker.

PROJECT PROBLEM: Design a tree house for a real life client’s prop-
erty in Costa Rica. The tree that will support the house is a strangler fig.

PROJECT SOLUTION: In Costa Rica there is a wet season and
dry season. The design for this tree house was to battle these
weather conditions. The design includes a secure, octagonal struc-
ture with a solid, pitched roof, open sides and long overhangs that
provides full shade without obstructing views. The double roof cu-
pola captures more light and applies a natural heat ventilation.

PROJECT PROBLEM: The ULI Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design
project, calls for a redesign of the Sulphur Dell district in Nashville, TN.
PROJECT SOLUTION: The Sulphur Dell district in Nashville will be
transformed based on an “Urban Campus” concept that focuses on
entertainment and healthy living activities. A campus style layout
will provide the necessary living and working walk-ability. Access
to the parks, gardens, baseball park, recreation center, and farm-
ers market will transform the district into a health-promoting site.

DESIGN IV: SPRING 2014
PREFORMING ARTSD E S I G N
PROJECT PROBLEM: Design Southern Illinois University Carbon-dale’s new Preforming Arts Center which will include a symphony hall to seat 500 attendees and a theater to seat 1,200 attendees.
PROJECT SOLUTION: The project site is located within 500 yards of a train track. In an effort to reduce unwanted noise, the theaters have no exterior walls. The theaters are distinguished through separate forms that can be recognized as they penetrate up through the structures that house them. The design of the site provides for two separate entrances which can be accessed on two different levels. The Main Entrance, which is located to the north and is constructed of primarily glass, offers a wel-coming perspective from the intersection of S Illinois Ave and W Mill St.

SUSTAINABILITY
PROJECT PROBLEM: The challenge of this project is to de-sign a long, narrow single-family dwelling staying true to the shotgun style allowing for sustainable features to heat and cool the home throughout the life of the structure in Cairo, IL.

PROJECT PROBLEM: Study materials, systems and generate the doc-
umentation of construction drawings for complex multi-floor structures.
PROJECT SOLUTION: The drawings below are part of a com-
prehensive sheet set, detailing each materials arrangment
and system connections that support to hold up the struc-
ture. With a full understanding of each component, it was then
possible to complete the detailed problems assigned. Oth-
er technology courses include, Tech. I Wood and Tech. III Steel.

The five sides on the pentagon represent the five tiers of edu-
cation it takes to become an architect. Those five tiers are the
Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior and Graduates upon com-
pletion. Stacking the pentagon demonstrates the School of Ar-
chitecture at SIUC has advanced it’s accreditation over the years.
