DIRECTORY PURPOSE AND INTRODUCTION

Support Chatham County Farms and Businesses

We encourage you to buy local when possible!

Chatham County Extension Master Gardener Volunteers compiled this guide to help gardeners

find plants and gardening supplies in Chatham County, NC and surrounding areas.

Every effort has been made to include all Chatham County farms and businesses that sell

plants and gardening supplies to the general public. For counties surrounding Chatham, garden

centers and nurseries were selected for inclusion because they offer either unusual or difficult to

find plants or gardening products, an unusually wide range of plants/products, or other items not

typically available within Chatham County.

Types of businesses included in this guide include:

Nurseries – that propagate and grow plants on site to sell to the general public,

including nurseries that sell online or are open by appointment. Nurseries that sell on

a wholesale only basis are not included.

Garden Centers – that sell plants they either grew on site or were bought in from

other nurseries. Compared to nurseries, garden centers are typically open more

regular hours and often carry gardening and landscape products and supplies in a

retail setting.

Retailers - such as hardware stores and farmers’ cooperatives that sell gardening

products and supplies year-round, and may also offer seeds and plants during the

growing season. (Please note: National, big-box chains such as Walmart and Lowes

are not included)

Farmers Markets – a list of farmers markets in Chatham and surrounding counties

is included beginning on page 35. Many farmers markets include vendors who offer

locally grown plants.
