Facts
• Gandhi's full name is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
• He was born on the 2 of October 1869 in Porbandar, British India.
• He was assassinated on the 30 January 1948 I New Delhi, India.
• He was also known as Mahatma meaning ‘Great Soul’.
• He protested peacefully by civil disobedience and satyagraha (passive resistance). This achieved the independence for India.
• In the order to fight for the independence for India Gandhi held the burning of the passes, the march at the mine, the march for salt and hunger strike until death.
• Gandhi is considered as the ‘father of a nation’.• Gandhi was married at the age of 13 in an
arranged marriage.• At the age of 18 Gandhi left his wife and
children to go to London to become a barrister.• When Gandhi was 23 he left London to go to
South Africa it was the strict laws there that changed Gandhi from a shy man to resilient leader.
• On the 15th of August 1947 India finally gained independence!
• Gandhi was assassinated by a young Hindu named Nathuram Godse.
