Commercial The Commercial Department’s core responsibility is to provide measurement services for Gammon’s Tendering and Project teams. Specific activities include checking quantities, the preparing of bills of quantities for design and build projects and resolving sub-contracting enquiries, plus ordering materials and conducting final measurements for main contracts and sub-contracts. The Department also evaluates variation orders and provides measurement services for Group business partners. Ultimately, our Commercial Department functions as a small professional quantity surveying firm providing professional support services for tender submissions and settling projects’ final accounts. All measurements produced by the Commercial team fully comply with industry-standard SMM calibrations. The team’s use of pre-developed standardised measurement templates simplifies and speeds up taking off, while uniform layouts and systematically structured worksheets streamline the administration and review of measurements and bills of quantities.

DesignThe Design division of Gammon Shenzhen incorporates a branch office of Lambeth Associates Limited of Hong Kong, also known as Lambeth (SZ).

In addition to providing design support for Lambeth (HK), Lambeth (SZ) also handles in-house design projects. The team’s many recent activities include the underpass design for Singapore’s Upgrading of the Woodsville Interchange Project and the design of the connection for the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre extension. Lambeth (SZ) also designed the structure for the steel-roofed restaurant area at Pacific Place Mall in Hong Kong. Lambeth (SZ) is particularly strong in structural steelwork and has worked closely with Gammon’s Construction Services Department on a variety of high-profile projects, including Macao’s North Atrium and The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel. The company also specialises in the structural design of aluminium and reflective and absorptive noise barriers. In providing design support for Gammon’s China Division, several Lambeth (SZ) team members were seconded to the Beijing Sanlitun project.

Plant and EquipmentThe Plant and Equipment Department is responsible for designing various equipment for the Gammon Group’s operation departments such as Foundations, Building, and Civil Department… etc. Specific capabilities include preparing 3-D drawings, models, animation and fabrication drawings via state-of-the-art computer generated imaging software. The team’s ultimate aim is to enhance time & cost effectiveness of equipment fabrication by eliminating any component dimensional errors and performing pre-production 3-D model structure checking.

Shenzhen BIM Centre

The BIM (Building Information Modelling) Centre in Shenzhen was established in early 2009 to aid project teams with BIM-related technologies and achieve project goals such as E&M coordination, quantity checking, design option studies and virtual construction simulations. The main uses of BIM are to

1. assist in identifying the various critical events and paths in the proposed construction programme;

2. illustrate different construction sequences for different construction scenarios due to site constraints and difficulties, while achieving better communication and safety with site workers;

3. demonstrate the relationship between site formation works and building works for construction planning and working space analysis; and

4. coordinate the fabrication components with the in-situ RC works all in a single BIM platform.
