It is strange how, as a teacher, I have always

thought of the beginning of school as a new year. I don’t

really celebrate January 1, but August is “my” New Years

month. Even in retirement, it hasn’t changed! I somehow

measure the passing of days as you might de-

scribe a race. This past month has been a

sprint from the very beginning. I can’t wait

to get on a straight and even path so I can

begin to pace myself.

School began very calmly for me. I

hope that you are able to say the same,

whether you are actively employed or retired.

I know that the “Treats for Teachers” were very well

received and very much appreciated. I understand that

some of you even took some pictures. I look forward to

seeing them posted on our website.

I am anxiously anticipating our first meeting,

September 13, and the Area III Workshop on Septem-

ber 15. Hopefully, you will be able to attend one, or both,

of these meetings. I hope to see you soon!

Recommendation forms were distributed in folders

at the August meeting. These forms will need to be

given to Adela Pirzadeh, Membership Chairman, at

the September 13th meeting. New members will be

voted on in October and orientation will be held af-

terwards. The initiation will follow in November.

Forms can be downloaded from the Gamma Nu web-

site, or they will be available at the meeting.

Bonds. Twenty four members and two guests were present. Dee Wilson led the Chapter Collect, and Roseanna

Henrichsen led the Response.

Welcome- Pam welcomed everyone to our back to school breakfast. Two guests were introduced- Tamara

Meigh and Brenda Miller.

Inspiration and Prayer- Sherry Otahal, Faith Smith-Chew, and Precious Remonenq read the poem, “Hold

High the Torch.”

Breakfast- Breakfast was provided by the Executive Board.

Minutes- There were no minutes for the May meeting/banquet.

Correspondence-Lori Janick read thank you notes from Roseanna Henrichsen, thanking the group for her

retirement gift, and Pattie Maltsberger, thanking the group for the memorial for her mother.

Treasurer’s Report- Mona reported that our balance as of July 1 was $2278.99. However, all receipts from

the convention had not cleared the bank by that time. Annual dues are $85.00 and may be paid now.

Convention Reports- Kathy Littlefield reported on the Texas State Convention held in Los Colinas this June.

Five Gamma Nu members attended- Pam Ansley, Adela Pirzadeh, Karen Stephens, Wynona Montgomery and

Kathy Littlefield. Gamma Nu received the following awards:

During the Celebration of Life and Remembrance Service, Alice Swain, Gamma Nu’s last charter member,

was remembered along with other sisters from throughout the state.

July. She and Kay Hill attended and enjoyed the trip.

Business- There was no new or unfinished business.

2012-2013 programs. A different poem was read for each month describing the program. After each month, a

torch was passed to the next presenter. A magnetic listing of programs and meeting dates was put in each

member’s folder. The January and February meetings will not be on our usual day, so be sure to

check the listing. The February meeting would have fallen on Valentine’s Day.

Announcements-

Treats for teachers will be taken to each campus the week of August 27. Pam passed around a sign-

up sheet and will send an e-mail if any schools are left unclaimed. There is a printed card to

accompany the treats so that teachers will be able to learn more about our group.

Member updates- There is a member update sheet that needs to be completed and given to the

Yearbook chairman.

Committees and Chairman- We received a handout with this year’s committee assignments. Sev-

eral committees do not yet have a chairman. Let Pam know if you would be willing to chair one

of these. There is also a listing of which committees are responsible for refreshments for up-

coming meetings. Please check to see which month is yours.
