GREG TODD – MOREHEAD STATE HEAD COACH27-40 at MSU (third season) / 184-104 as head coach (11th season)

Greg Todd, who has won nearly 80 percent of his games as a head coach, is in his third season season as head women’s basketball coach at Morehead State. Todd has served his entire head coaching career in Kentucky, including eight seasons at Transylvania University in Lexington where he led the Pioneers to four Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) championships and three NCAA Division III Tournament appear-ances. He also spent seven years as head coach at Lexington Catholic High School where he claimed three state titles and won 90 percent of his games. He began his head coaching career at Berea High School, leading the program to seven 20-win campaigns. In 24 seasons as a head coach at the college and high school level, Todd is 570-182 (.757 winning percentage). Todd, who was a four-time HCAC Coach of the Year, produced a 157-64 (.710) record at Transylvania, highlighted by a 26-3 mark in 2013-14, which set a school record for winning percentage. The Pioneers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and ranked sixth in the nation in scoring average (84.7). Transyl-vania also earned the program’s first-ever top-25 national ranking. He guided the Pioneers to the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth in 2006-07 and followed up with conference regular-season titles in 2008-09 and 2009-10. He was named HCAC Coach of the Year in 2008-09 and 2009-10, leading the Pioneers to the conference tournament championship in 2008-09. His teams were 32-2 in league games his final two seasons, claiming HCAC regular-season titles. He mentored HCAC Players of the Year Julie Leach (2006-07), Jackie Distler (2008-09) and Nicole Coffman (2012-13 and 2013-14). Todd guided Lexington Catholic High School to a 225-26 (.896) mark in seven seasons, reaching the 30-victory plateau five times. He won Kentucky state cham-pionships in 2000-01, 2004-05 and 2005-06 and is the first coach in state history in either gender to lead his team to four consecutive state title games. His teams were state runners-up in 2002-03 and 2003-04. The program also won the 11th region title six times. His 2005-06 squad, which featured five all-state players and seven eventual Division I players, was 35-1 and finished No. 3 in the final USA Today girls high school poll. That still stands as the highest national ranking for a Kentucky boys or girls team. He was named EA Sports National Coach of the Year by StudentSports.com. A Berea, Ky., native, Todd graduated from Eastern Kentucky University. He and his wife, Renee, have three children, Brooke, Katie and Robert.

LAST GAME RECAP – Women’s basketball cruises to 100-52 victory over Kentucky Christian

By Connor Link, Morehead State Athletic Media Relations

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State women’s basketball defeated Kentucky Christian 100-52 on Monday night at Johnson Arena, bringing the Eagles’ record to 5-2 on the season.

“We just came into this game wanting to play hard and have a lot of energy,” said MSU head coach Greg Todd. “We wanted this game to mean something to our team.”

The Eagles reached triple-digit scoring for the first time in 2016-17, despite connecting on just two of six field goal attempts from three-point range. Morehead State scored a staggering 82 points in the paint, shooting over 50 percent from the field (46-for-84, .548) for the first time this season.

“We didn’t need to shoot a lot of three-point shots,” Todd said. “We wanted to be focused and make every possession matter. We did a nice job passing the ball.”

Five Morehead State players scored in double-digits, led by 18 points, four rebounds, and three steals from senior Shay Steele. The Eagles’ starting backcourt, Brianna McQueen and Miranda Crockett, poured in 16 points apiece. McQueen added six rebounds and five assists. Aaliyah Wells and Breuna Jackson each scored 13, while Wells’ output was complemented by five assists and four steals.

Morehead State forced 29 turnovers from Kentucky Christian, scoring 38 points in the process. The Eagles also outgunned the Knights 38-0 in the fast break.

“It was a good night for us, overall,” said Todd. “We were pleased to get the ‘W.’”

Morehead State’s next matchup is on Wednesday with No. 16 West Virginia. The Eagles and Mountaineers will tip off at 6:30 p.m. ET in Morgantown, W. Va.
