Named upon the arrival of the conqueringking Aegon argaryen, this city long s ervedas a home to the ruling family until RobertBaratheon deposed Aerys argaryen, knownas the Mad King. Te southern regions balmy

climate contributes to a life of lavishness forthose who can afford it, but the citys mobbedstreets demand caution from even its mostpowerful residents.

    House Baratheon

Founded after the conquest of Aegon argaryenby the conquerors general Orys Baratheon.More recently, following Roberts Rebellion, the Baratheons of Storms End seized the IronTrone from the Mad King Aerys argaryenand have ruled the Seven Kingdoms since.

Warden of the West Legend has it that Lannthe Clever tricked the Casterly family intogiving up their castle, thus beginning theLannister bloodline. Te fortress guards aregion rife with gold mines, which have allowed

the Lannisters to amass significant wealth.

    House Lannister

Te Lannisters descend in part from a groupof Andals who i nvaded Westeros more than6,000 years ago and settled at Casterly Rock.Te family ruled as kings in their realmuntil the argaryens brought dragons toconquer the continent, placing all the lords ofWesteros under control of the Iron Trone.

Te home of the Stark family has stood formillennia in the North, and the windingtombs beneath the castle tell the history ofthe many Stark kings and lords who havedwelled in it. Te fortified keep sits atop aseries of hot springs, which make the harshwinter months somewhat more livable.

    House Stark

Te Stark family traces its lineage back tothe First Men, who landed in Westeros morethan 10,000 years ago and eventually forgeda lasting peace with the continents druidicnatives, the Children of the Forest. Te Starksstill worship the Old Gods of their forebearsat the heart tree in Winterfell.

When the argaryen family first arrivedin Westeros - long before conqueringthe continent - they made their home atDragonstone. Built using Valyrian techniquesof stonemasonry, since lost to the ages, thecastle looks unlike anything else.

    House Targaryen

Te argaryens came from the ancientcivilization of Valyria, bringing dragons fromthe eastern continent and settling on the islandof Dragonstone. After an unknown disasterknown as the Doom of Valyria wiped outtheir homeland and killed most of the worldsdragons, the argaryens invaded Westeros.

    House Tully

Te principal house of the Riverlands, theullys of Riverrun rose to power during theargaryen conquest. When the invadersattacked, Edmyn ully rebelled against theKing of the Isles, Harren the Black, andsided with Aegon argaryen. Harrens othersupporters soon followed suit, paving the wayfor the new king.

Te Frey family spent three generationsbuilding their river-spanning fortress, andtheyve grown rich from the tolls charged totravelers for crossing.

    House Frey

Wealthy and powerful, the Freys arebannermen sworn to House ully and controlthe river crossing known as Te wins. Sacred to the followers of the Old Faith andknown as heart trees, many Weirwood treeshave faces carved into their trunks so that theold gods may watch over the followers andwitness important events such as marriages.

Te carving of faces was done by the Childrenof the Forest before the coming of the FirstMen across the Narrow Sea. Greenseers of thechildren of the forest are able to see throughthe eyes of weirwoods at any point in time.Weirwoods only still grow in significantnumbers in the forests of the North. Beyondthe Wall, they even are more prevalent.

    Heart Tree

A heart tree is the center of a Godswood. Aheart tree is a weirwood tree that has a facecarved into the wood of the trunk, with redsap giving the appearance of tears of blood.Tey are sacred in the religion of the OldGods of the Forest.

Considered one of the nine Wonders Madeby Man, the Wall is over 700 feet high andwas constructed entirely of ice and stoneover 8,000 years ago by Brandon the Builder.Defended by the Nights Watch, the Wallstretches over 300 miles across the North, protecting the Realm from the wildlings andWhite Walkers. According to myth, old spellswere woven into it to strengthen it and TeWall is believed to have the ability to protectitself from invaders.

    the Nights Watch

Founded eons ago, the Nights Watch guardsthe Wall, protecting the Seven Kingdomsfrom the wilds of the Far North. In recenttimes, the orders ranks have dwindled and arenow supplied mainly from the dungeons.

Captured by the Lannisters from ully alliesHouse Whent, Harrenhal was given to JanosSlynt as thanks for his part in the capture ofNed Stark. Te castle was built centuries agoby Harren the Black, who was betrayed by his

bannermen during the argaryen Conquest. As no lord has lasted long within its walls, itis believed to be cursed.

    House Baelish

As the kingdoms Master of Coin, Littlefingeralways managed to balance the books, evenwhen spending surpassed income. Littlefingeris a childhood friend of the ully sisters,Lysa and Catelyn, the latter of whom hestill harbors feelings for. Nakedly ambitious,Littlefinger was awarded Harrenhal by KingJoffrey for uniting the houses Lannisterand yrell. He often finds himself at oddswith Varys.

A grave and formidable fighter who gave uphis claim on his ancestral home of Bear Islandto assume command of the Nights Watch,Mormont is referred to by his troops as OldBear. Te father of the disgraced knightJorah Mormont, he has taken Jon Snowunder his wing and is training him to lead.

Built by Aegon I argargyen, the first kingof the Seven Kingdoms, the Iron Trone wasforged in the breath of Balerion the BlackDread from the swords surrendered by hisenemies. As the seat of kings, the chair is

cold, hard, and jagged. Only the king himselfand a few exclusive individual who act on hisbehalf, such as his Hand or regent, may sit onthe Iron Trone.

    King Joffrey

Young Joffrey Baratheon now sits on theIron Trone, but whispers about his parentageswirl around the kingdom, giving his unclespossible claim to his seat. Joffrey resembleshis mother Cersei in both looksand comportment.

Anyof Stannis men who managed to make theirway to Kings Landing were immediately setupon by the Hound and his men until theHound, spooked by the flames, abandonedhis post. yrion then took up the charge tokeep the rebel forces at bay until the ghost ofRenly Baratheon (Loras yrell) terrified therest of Stannis men into dispersing.
