Game Idea
By: Matthew Crabtree
Type
• I could best call it a town simulation/rpg type genre
• You sort of direct the building of a town by assigning roles to your population (sim).
• “Holes” open on the outskirts of town where monsters come out of so you choose a team from your trained warriors and venture in to defeat them and seal it (rpg).
Town Roles
• Hunters/gatherers- collect food/wood for town• Researchers- discovers new tasks/tools/weapons/etc• Builders- expands town• Merchants- allows the town to flourish/better equip
for warriors• Fighters- defends against invading monsters/ use to
seal the “Holes”• Children- Nothing – Takes x amount of time to grow
to adult• N/A- unassigned task• Could add other roles also
More
• The town attacks would be auto-calc based on different factors
• Population size based on food levels available
• Warrior types: Archer, Melee, (researchable classes) horseback archer, horseback warrior, etc
Resources
• Wood- used by builders
• Food- constantly used by all citizens (maybe based on occupation)
• Tech- possible resource for manual steering of research– You use points to purchase from tech trees for
different parts of stuff (weapons, jobs, improved tools, etc)
Task
• Make your town flourish as long as possible
• Continuous attacks could kill all your people making you lose the game.
• Warriors gain exp to become stronger the longer they live
• Monsters progressively increase in difficulty
Conclusion• I took a few ideas from several games I’ve played over
the years• Actraiser
– In this game you had a town sort of location you steered and after a time unlocked a dungeon by the town for you to enter. In this dungeon was a side-scrolling hack and slash where you progress to the boss and defeat it to secure the town as safe. (Top on next slide).
• Breath of Fire III– In the game you unlock sort of a mini-side quest where you
direct a town of faeries so they can survive. You set each faerie to a task and slowly developed the town which could also supply you with things for using in the main game. (Bottom of next slide).
