Game Designer A game designer has many responsibilities with a game they are making. The Process: The “textbook” approach is to start with a concept and create a game design document which is intended to show the entire game design mapped out to give direction to the development team. Designers usually adapt to multiple roles. When discussing a new project they may be expected to create a pitch of ideas for the game. If the pitch is approved the designer may be expected to give a more detailed design document. As the production progresses more input is expected. Near the end of production the designer must make sure every part of the game is of a high standard. The following are what a game designer is responsible for: World design a backstory a setting a theme for the game; often done by a lead designer System design game rules brainstorming and formulating the core ideas for the system understanding the gameplay and story goals, and how the system can help embellish on them scripting the basic interface and system logic working with and communicate the design goals clearly with other disciplines and collaborate and incorporate other disciplines into the creation process working in our proprietary design tools to place necessary objects, triggers, and scripted logic to fire off events in the gameplay flow bug checking Content design characters items puzzles missions
