The Chiefs own a 27-20 edge in 47 regular and postseason games played between these two original AFL franchises, including a 2-0 mark in postseason play. Kansas City’s 27 wins against Tennessee are the club’s most against any non-division opponent except for the Seattle Seahawks, who played in the AFC West for 25 years (’77-01). The Chiefs have never lost three straight home games vs. the Titans, who have produced a 34-10 win (10/19/08) and a 26-17 victory (12/16/07) at Arrowhead. Kansas City has won fi ve of the last eight games against the Titans/Oilers dating back to a win in the ’93 AFC Divisional Playoffs. The Chiefs won a 49-38 shootout on Monday Night Football in the most recent contest in this series at LP Field (12/14/04). The Chiefs won seven straight games in this series from ’68-74 when the club was stationed in Houston. Kansas City also registered a four-game victory string from ’93-96, including a postseason contest.

Kansas City broke a string of four straight losses against Houston with a thrilling 24-19 win in a ’93 AFC Divisional Playoff tilt, the fi nal NFL postseason contest ever staged at the Astrodome (1/16/94). The red-hot Oilers had won 11 straight regular season games to close the ’94 regular season behind QB Warren Moon, but the Chiefs rallied for 21 fourth-quarter points thanks to QB Joe Montana, RB Marcus Allen and a stifl ing defense that sacked Moon 9.0 times in KC’s most recent playoff win. The Chiefs then proceeded to win three straight regular season meetings with the then-Oilers in ’94, ’95 and ’96. By far the most dramatic clash between these two clubs came in the ’62 AFL Championship Game when the Dallas Texans prevailed 20-17 in a double-OT thriller over the Houston Oilers. Texans K Tommy Brooker ended a 17-17 stalemate with a 35-yard FG to give the franchise the fi rst of its three AFL titles. At 77 minutes and 54 seconds, that contest still ranks as the second-longest game in NFL history.

The Chiefs are seeking to register a 10-win season for the fi rst time since 2005 as Kansas City hosts Tennessee on Sunday (12/26). Kansas City will attempt to register seven or more victories in a season at Arrowhead for the seventh time in team history. Kansas City joins Atlanta and New England as the only remaining undefeated teams at home this season. Kansas City is coming off a 27-13 win at St. Louis (12/19) as the Chiefs swept their four contests against NFC foes. Under Head Coach Todd Haley, the Chiefs have made a fi ve-game improvement in the win column at 9-5 after fi nishing the 2009 campaign at 4-12. That mark ties as the biggest one-year turnaround in team history. Hank Stram led the ’62 Dallas Texans to the franchise’s fi rst AFL title and an 11-3 regular season mark after going 6-8 in ’61. Dick Vermeil guided the Chiefs to a 13-3 mark and an AFC West title in 2003 after the club fi nished 8-8 in 2002. The Chiefs and Steelers have allowed 14 points or less in an NFL-high seven contests. Kansas City owns a 7-0 mark in those games. The Chiefs have permitted a league-low 12.2 ppg in their six home contests and have limited all of those foes to 20 points or less. KC will face a Tennessee squad that snapped a six-game losing streak with a 31-17 victory vs. Houston (12/19). The Titans have outscored their foes by an average margin of 33.2 to 14.8 in their six victories. The Chiefs lead the NFL in rushing (168.6 ypg) thanks to the most productive running back duo in the league. No pair of teammates own more combined rushing yards than the 2,131 racked up by RBs Jamaal Charles (1,303) and Thomas Jones (828). Last week, Jones became the 25th player in NFL history and only the third active player to reach the 10,000-yard rushing plateau. The Chiefs registered 210 rushing yards against the Rams, marking the sixth time that KC has topped the 200-yard plateau in a game this season. Charles ranks third in the NFL in rushing and leads all NFL running backs (min. 100 atts.) with a 6.4 yards per carry average. Tennessee owns a dynamic rusher of its own in RB Chris Johnson, who ranks fourth in the league with 1,267 rushing yards and is tied for third in the NFL with 11 rushing TDs. Johnson led the NFL with a franchise-record 2,006 yards in 2009 and has posted eight 100-yard rushing games this season. Rookie WR Marc Mariani owns a kickoff return TD and a punt return TD this year. Next week Kansas City concludes the regular season with a home contest vs. Oakland (1/2), while Tennessee travels to Indianapolis (1/2).

Unable to generate a consistent offensive attack, the Chiefs were beaten 34-10 by the Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas City was unable to mount any consistent scoring threat under three different quarterbacks. QB Brodie Croyle started, but left early in the second quarter with a left knee injury. QB Damon Huard relieved into the fourth quarter after suffering a right thumb injury at the end of the first half. He was replaced by QB Tyler Thigpen, who finished out the game and led the team to a pair of scoring drives in the fourth quarter. It was a different story for Tennessee, as the Titans produced 455 offensive yards and 332 rushing yards. There were three touchdown runs by RB LenDale White, including an 80-yard scoring run, and a 66-yard TD jaunt by rookie RB Chris Johnson. The Titans struck first, taking possession at the Chiefs 20-yard line after a Kansas City punt. QB Kerry Collins drove Tennessee’s offense 49 yards on 10 plays, but had to settle for a 49-yard FG from K Rob Bironas to give the Titans an early 3-0 lead. Tennessee later added to its lead on a six-play, 53-yard drive with White scoring on a six-yard run to make it 10-0 for the Titans. As the second quarter began, the Chiefs offense finally started moving the football and pushed it to the Titans 21-yard line on a 17-yard completion from Croyle to WR Dwayne Bowe on third down. Unfortunately on the play, Croyle suffered a season-ending left knee injury. K Nick Novak tried a 39-yard field goal that sailed over the left upright but was ruled no good by the game officials. Tennessee went three-and-out on its next possession. Huard came in to run the offense and immediately the Chiefs got a nice 19-yard run by RB Kolby Smith on first down. They later converted a fourth-and-one play thanks to a Titans offsides penalty. Eventually, the Chiefs had to punt the ball away and the touchback gave Tennessee possession at its own 20-yard line. From there Collins led the offense on a nine-play, 80-yard scoring drive, with all but 17 of those yards coming on the ground from Johnson and White. White punched in his second TD run of the day, this one from the Kansas City two-yard line to make the Titans advantage 17-0. The Chiefs offense put together a drive near the end of the half, but Novak’s 50-yard FG attempt hit the right upright just before intermission. The third quarter proved to be a battle for the punters, as neither offense was able to get anything going. Tennessee finally was able to pull together a third-quarter drive, after it took over at its own 41-yard line following a 57-yard punt by P Dustin Colquitt that came out of his own end zone. The Titans went 31 yards on eight plays, finishing up with a 46-yard FG by Bironas just before the end of the quarter. In the fourth quarter, White added his third scoring play, when he cracked through the right side of the Titans offensive line and huffed and puffed his way 80 yards into the end zone. The Chiefs then finally got on the scoreboard with a 26-yard Novak FG, set up by a 59-yard kickoff return by RB Dantrell Savage. On the next possession, Johnson broke loose through the left side of the Titans offensive line and ran 66 yards for a TD to make the count 34-3. Thigpen got the Chiefs first TD in the last eight quarters, when he ran in on a 14-yard scramble with 2:37 to play in the game.

The Chiefs topped St. Louis by a 27-13 margin at the Edward Jones Dome to return the Governor’s Cup to Kansas City. The victory sealed the Chiefs perfect 4-0 mark against the NFC West in 2010.

The Chiefs registered 210 rushing yards, while allowing only 69 yards on the ground. Rookie S Kendrick Lewis recorded a career-high two INTs, while DE Wallace Gilberry registered a career-high 3.0 sacks (-26.0 yards).

Rams K Josh Brown knocked through two field goals to open the contest including a 37-yarder and a 52-yarder to give St. Louis an early 6-0 lead before the Chiefs rattled off 20 unanswered points.

On the Chiefs second possession, QB Matt Cassel’s pass on third and 13 was intercepted by CB Kevin Dockery and was returned to the Kansas City 48-yard line. After two incomplete passes, Gilberry sacked Bradford for a seven-yard loss forcing the Rams to punt. The Chiefs kicked it right back when P Dustin Colquitt booted a 72-yard punt that tied for the fifth-longest punt in Chiefs history. St. Louis was forced to punt after going three and out on its next drive.

Facing fourth and one from his own 48-yard line, Head Coach Todd Haley went for it with RB Jackie Battle taking a handoff up the middle for seven yards. Cassel found WR Dwayne Bowe deep down the right sideline for 28 yards to the St. Louis 11-yard line. On third and one from the two-yard line, Cassel hit TE Leonard Pope in the end zone to give the Chiefs a 7-6 edge over the Rams with 6:49 left in the first half.

Following the scoring drive, St. Louis went three and out. After an unnecessary roughness penalty for a late hit out of bound by the Rams, Cassel connected with TE Tony Moeaki for 12 yards and followed that with a 13-yard scramble to get to the St. Louis 20-yard line. Five plays later RB Jamaal Charles busted through the line on third and two for a TD to put the Chiefs up 14-6 at the half.

On the first play from scrimmage of the second half, RB Thomas Jones picked up four yards to become the 25th player in NFL history to go over the 10,000-yard career rushing mark. The Chiefs moved the ball to the St. Louis 35-yard line before facing fourth and nine. K Ryan Succop put a 53-yard FG through the uprights, tying a career long, and putting the Chiefs up 17-6.

After a Rams punt, Cassel connected with Bowe for a 25-yard pickup to the Rams 29-yard line. Succop nailed a 38-yard FG, putting Kansas City up 20-6 with 12:20 left in the contest.

On third and 10 for the Rams, Bradford’s completion to WR Danario Alexander was challenged by Chiefs coach Haley and was overturned, forcing a Rams punt on fourth and 10. The Chiefs punted the ball right back. RB Steven Jackson capped a 12-play, 72-yard drive with a five-yard TD run to narrow the Chiefs lead to 20-13 with 4:04 left to play.

On the Chiefs first play from scrimmage, Charles reeled off a career-long 80-yard run down to the St. Louis two-yard line. Jones dove over the pile and into the end zone to extend the Chiefs lead to 27-13 with 3:26 left in the game.

Two sacks by Gilberry including a forced fumble and two INTs from Lewis hampered any comeback opportunities for the Rams and sealed Kansas City's 27-13 victory.

GAME NOTES• RB Thomas Jones became the third active NFL player and the 25th player in league history to reach the 10,000-yard rushing plateau.• The Chiefs won their 10th consecutive game vs. an NFC West opponent.

S Kendrick Lewis records two INTs in the game's closing minutes.
