Monoprint ing Saturday, September 28 • 9-12 noon and 1-3pm Pour it On with Ken McBride of Oakdale
Ken returns to Copper for some fun paint play on the square. In the morning session, we will “pour it on” under canopies on the square. In the afternoon, we will come inside and learn Ken’s finishing tricks to complete our paintings. Cost is $45 for the day, which includes all paint and paper. You will need to bring your usual watercolor brushes and supplies. $20 deposit, check or cash, saves your spot.
P le in Air Saturday, September 28 The Concours Foundation has invited plein air artists to paint on the grounds during the Concours D’elegance at Ironstone Vineyard Saturday, Sept. 28th. If you are interested, please email Chris Gomez at [email protected]. Included is complimentary entry & lunch in the VIP Hospitality Room along with the ability to paint awesome classic autos. Several artists also have sold works right off their canvases to the car owners themselves. It is always a fun day and great exposure. Plein Air Monday – Wednesday, Sept. 30- Oct. 2 Into Plein Air with Sunny Sorenson at the Tahoe Basin Place: Lake Tahoe Eagle Rock Area Mediums: oil, acrylic, or pastel This workshop is designed to fully explore the fall colors of Lake Tahoe. The workshop will be held on location and will include approximately 15 hours of painting (including demos). Sunny’s workshops are designed to help you grow in your ability to visually respond to the landscape, and develop, and apply techniques that will be useful to your creative process. A materials list is provided from Town Hall Arts with deposit. Fee: $225. Deposit of $100 is required.

Broken China Mosaics with Alice and Susie Bring your old or broken china, glass beads, jewelry, stones, etc. and turn them into a work of art. We will break china and mosaic a 9x9 trivet that you can use flat or hang on the wall. Supplies are included but we have a limited supply of decorative pieces, so please bring what you can find. Drawing Five Wednesday afternoons, October 2, 9, 16, 23, Nov. 6 • 1 pm to 4:30 pm Beginning Drawing Camp with Marlene Dotur of Jamestown Marlene, an award-winning artist, returns to Copper to teach the fundamental principles of drawing. Her teaching style is one that welcomes people of all ability levels, and nurtures in a friendly, helpful environment. She will begin with a complete assessment of all drawing supplies and those needed for the class. She will then proceed to develop a foundation of required skills to awaken the artist in each person. The understanding of line/shape will lead to negative/positive spaces, then with these skills, she will introduce perspective/depth, light/shadow, all while teaching the importance of acquiring an artist’s eye for seeing in a most unique way. During the last class and with these new acquired skills, the needed principles for all art mediums, the student will be able to create the illusion of a three dimensional composition on a flat drawing surface. Cost is $125 for five lessons.

Watercolor Friday, October 4 • 10 am to 1 pm Watercolor Pumpkins with Pat Strout of Concord We will be using the vibrant colors of autumn to paint a pumpkin still life. Bring at least a quarter sheet size Arches watercolor paper (11x15) already stretched to board or watercolor block and your usual watercolor supplies, including paper towels. Cost of class is $20. Take both of Pat’s classes this weekend for a discounted $35. Please sign up with Larry by Sept. 30.
Acryl ics Saturday, October 5 • 10 am to 1 pm Early Snow Landscape with Pat Strout of Concord Paint a landscape of trees, lake, and sky in the colors of autumn. Bring a canvas board at least 14” x 18” and any acrylic supplies you have. Cost of class is $20. Discounted price for taking both of Pat’s classes is $35.

For the warm up you will need a variety of graphite pencils, eraser, Q-tips and blenders, and 1/8 (7 ½” x 11”) sheet a nice heavy cotton piece of drawing paper—cut pieces may be purchased from Larry. Zentangle Sunday, October 13 • 1 pm to 4 pm Boo Tangles for Adults with Susie Adults like to Boo Tangle, too! Great class for zentangle beginners and advanced tanglers as well. Get in the spooky spirit this season with a nice little Halloween painting. You will need a .01 Micron pen, 2H pencil, Magic Rub eraser, sketchbook for drawing and tangle practice, 1/8 sheet watercolor paper and (available already
cut from Larry), any watercolor supplies you have, including paper towels and wash brush. You will make a 7x7 painting and two watercolor bookmarks. Class cost is $15.

Tried and true right brain methods have made this oil painting class fun and popular. Classes include instruction in painting from upside-down photos, right-side-up still lifes, and timed pieces, using a variety of grounds. Diana's style both on canvas and as an instructor is loose, expressive and full of spirit! Beginner to advanced students welcome. Costs is $125 a session. Discount of $200 for the two sessions is available if you sign up for both sessions before October 28. Deposit of $50 is required. Absolutely no drop-ins.
Watercolor Thursday and Friday, October 24, 25 • 9:30 am to noon Pears on Parade Watercolor with Selma Sattin of Copperopolis Open to students with some watercolor experience Celebrate the colors of autumn while painting the graceful lines of
"The Pear" in this two-day workshop with local artist Selma Sattin. We will set up a separate still-life display for each day and create two different paintings. Improve your skills in composition and design, background pours and color harmony. Class size is limited to six to allow for individual learning. Be sure to include in your watercolor supplies a 1 1/2 " flat brush and a medicine dropper. Suggested pigments: Naples Yellow, Scarlet Lake, Cobalt Blue, Quinacridone Gold, Quinacridone Fuschia. Arches 140 or 300, cold press is recommended. Cost of two-‐day workshop is $50. $20 deposit required. Acryl ics Saturday and Sunday, October 26, 27 • 9:30 am to 4 pm The New Acrylics—the Most Versatile Medium with Priscilla Klass of Half Moon Bay Well-known peninsula artist Priscilla Klass will introduce students to color and mediums before painting a still life Saturday. Plan to use at least two 16x20 canvases. This class is also great for oil painters who want to speed up the initial underpainting in plein air or studio work. Please have at least three brushes--#12 short flat, #8, and 3-4 smaller sizes with square edges. Golden Open Acrylic colors include warm and cool primaries, Titanium White, and Ivory Black. Priscilla will introduce the color palette and mediums with a demo the first morning. In the afternoon, you will start on a still life. Class minimum is seven students. Beginners as well as intermediate-level students welcome. Cost of two-day workshop is $200. Deposit of $75 requried by Oct. 7. No cancellations after Oct. 11 unless class is cancelled.

Copper Art Club ~ Gifts of Art Holiday Boutique Saturday, November 9 and weekends through the holidays We plan to open our Gifts of Art Holiday Boutique as part of the “Taste of the Holidays” celebration at Copper Town Square. Last year, over 300 tickets were sold for this event, which showcases local food and wine for the coming holiday season. Selma Sattin has graciously volunteered to run the Gift of Art Boutique and Castle & Cooke has offered us use one of the empty shops. Copper Art Club members may sell their art with 20% of proceeds going to support our Kids’ Klub and 79’ers Club. This show is open to all Copper Art Club members, so be planning what you would like to put in the boutique. If you have an idea of about how many pieces you would like to show, please let Selma know at [email protected]. This will be an “affordable art” display with all art priced under $100. Greeting cards will be accepted only in gift sets. You may purchase clear boxes from Town Hall Arts that hold six 5x7 cards and envelopes. This popular lesson returns again this year by request. No experience required. Give family and friends a beautiful piece of art this year. We will start with short color lesson to give you the tools to make a harmonious winter scene in any color scheme you choose. You will need an X-acto knife, masking (safe-release) tape, artist’s spray bottle, watercolor cards, small backboards, pencil, notebook, Pro-White, paper towels, and watercolor supplies.
Bring photos of any winter scenes that you have. Cost of class is $10 members, $15 non-members. Life Drawing Thursdays, January 9, 16, 23, 30 • 9 am to noon Life Drawing with George Allen Durkee Draw from a live nude model on Thursday mornings. No experience needed. $10 per session. Limited instruction if you want it, or George will stay out of your face if you don’t. Materials available at Town Hall Arts. You will need an 18x24 newsprint pad and drawing pencils
(charcoal or graphite – 4B and/or 6B). Three-Day Outdoor Oi l Paint ing Workshop with George Al len Durkee Friday – Sunday, January 24-26 • 9 am to 5 pm George Allen Durkee is a San Francisco street artist turned Northern California landscape painter. He has been a contributing writer for The Artist’s Magazine and American Artist and is author of Expressive Oil Painting - An Open Air Approach to Creative Landscapes (North Light 2009) as well as two instructional videos. During this outdoor oil painting workshop you can get plenty of one-on-one help. George will not only show you the how of painting, but will explain why, and then help you learn by doing. You’ll receive personal coaching tailored to your current level of development and the painting goals you have set for yourself. To make the most of this workshop, you need some painting experience, but you don’t need to be an expert. You will need a minimum level of drawing skill. A deposit of $100 must be paid at the time of registration to guarantee placement. Enrollment is limited to eight painters. Cost for workshop: $300. Ask for materials list from Larry.
Improve Your Paint ing May and June 2014 • 10 am to noon Improve Your Painting with Sunny Sorensen of Hathaway Pines Lesson plans will include instruction and practice in creating the armature (structure) with line and notans, massing and abstracting shapes, keying value to color and creating color shapes, types of edges and how to use them effectively, and various methods of guiding the eye through the painting--when you need a focal point and when you don't. All work will be done from life, most in studio, and some outside in the second month. Students should be willing to do one 1/2 hour drawing a day on their own. Beginners welcome. Class size limit: 8. More information to come.
