2.2 Safety instructions steel casing

Caution: before unpacking thesteel casing, please read the dan-ger label on the steel plate andcomply with the instructions in thechapter on installing the pool.

2.3 Location

The ideal location is sunny and protected fromthe wind.

2.4 The right surface

The ground under the swimming pool should beso-called natural ground. It must not consist ofheaped up ground. Any heaped up groundmust be compacted in such a way that it cantake the necessary swimming pool load of1200 kp/m2 for a pool depth of 1.20 m or1500 kp/m2 for a depth of 1.50 m.

The ground excavated for the swimming poolmust correspond to the dimensioned drawingplus working space of about 50 cm all round. That means that the ground excavated shouldbe 1 m longer and 1 m wider than the lengthand width of the finished pool.

Use a ground protection tarpaulin to protect thePVC swimming pool inner cover, because freshconcrete is not compatible with PVC (this alsoapplies to asphalt and polystyrene).

2.5 Temperature and wind

The inner cover foil of the swimming pool ismade of soft PVC (thermoplastic material). Inview of the properties of this material, the bestconditions for installing the swimming pool pre-vail when the outside temperature is between15°C and 25°C.

Note:

If the temperature is too low, the foil ishard and inelastic, and therefore toosmall.

If the temperature is too high, the foil issoft and elastic, and therefore too large.

When fitting the inner cover, please note thatbright sunshine can cause excessive stretching.

You cannot install the swimming pool whenthere is a strong wind, because the wind caneasily tip the steel casing over. This can causedamage.

2.6 Installation of the swimming pool

You can install your swimming pool in variousdifferent ways:

• 2/3 in the ground

• completely installed in the ground

2.7 Installing the swimming pool on aslope

As already mentioned, the swimming pool mustnot be installed on heaped up ground whichhas not been suitably compacted in advance. That means that the installation surface for thecomplete swimming pool must be in the naturalground of the slope, as shown in the picture. The slope down to the pool must be containedby a small wall or corresponding embankment. The slope must certainly not rest on the wall ofthe swimming pool.

2.9 Necessary structural work

For the oval pool, the customer is responsiblefor excavating the corresponding building pit, producing the reinforced base plate and thetwo support walls. Please consult a buildingcontractor.

Once the pool has been installed, the curvedends of the pool must be backfilled correctlywith lean concrete. The backfilling material must

not be vibrated nor stamped in, because other-wise this will damage the steel casing (dentingon the inside). Sand, grit or other free-flowingmaterial must never be used for backfilling theswimming pool.

Instead of a backfilling, the support wall can becontinued round the curved ends.

Excavation

Draw the outline of your swimming pool on theground using a cord compass. Please refer tothe dimensions table (page 5) for the necessarydimensions. To leave sufficient working space ofabout 0.5 m all round, the pit should be exca-vated about 1 m longer and wider than theactual pool.

Base plate

The reinforced base plate (2) should be 12 –15 cm thick and must be perfectly level andsmooth.

Support walls

The two straight walls of the swimming pool areformed by a support wall (3).

Please consult the dimensions table (page 5)for the dimensions of the support wall (M).

The support walls are produced by brickworkon the reinforced concrete base plate (2) andconnected to the base plate with reinforcingiron rods.

We recommend using 24 cm hollow blockbricks. It goes without saying that the individuallayers of brickwork have to be offset and alsoreinforced with structural steel. The hollow blockbricks are then filled with lean concrete.

The brickwork wall should be built up to theheight of the pool casing.

Fastening the steel casing

To improve the appearance of the pool, werecommend that the steel casing (5) is fastenedto the support wall (3). The fastening angles(11) can be used for this purpose: they are bed-ded in mortar in the top joint of the supportwall.

3. Installing the swimming pool

At least 2 persons are necessary to install theswimming pool.

The metal edges of the steel casing arevery sharp! The steel casing has been roll-ed up and is under considerable tension.Always wear safety gloves throughout theentire unpacking and installation procedure.

Warning! Risk of injury! While cutting through the strap retainers woundround the roll of steel sheeting, it is very impor-tant for a second person to hold the upper endof the roll together with both hands wearingsafety gloves for protection. When cuttingthrough the strap retainers of the roll which hasbeen stood on end, always work from bottomto top, i.e. cut through the strap retainer nearestto the ground first.

Otherwise there is a risk of the tension beingreleased upwards in an uncontrolled one-sidedmanner with the steel roll unwinding out of con-trol.

Risk of lacerations!

3.1 Marking the outline of the pool

Once the base plate and support walls havebeen finished, draw the outline of the swimmingpool on the ground using a cord compass.

3.2 Positioning the tarpaulin

Position the tarpaulin on the flat ground whichhas been carefully cleaned and cleared of anypointed objects. The tarpaulin is rectangularand is cut to size after installing the pool accor-ding to the steel casing.

Cutouts:Carefully make the prepared openings for thefitted skimmer and nozzle, filing and carefullydeburring the edges.

Use the double gasket for the skimmer. If this isnot provided, treat the cut edges with a corro-sion inhibitor.

Note: if the prepared openings are notrequired, seal them with the enclosedfoil.

3.3 Positioning the ground rail

Connect the individual segments of the groundrail to make an oval, using the slot-in tubes. Thefinished ground rail must be positioned precise-ly on the line you drew on the ground for theswimming pool circumference. The ground railcan be cut exactly to size after installing thewall of the swimming pool by sawing off thelast segment of the ground rail using a hack-saw.

3.4 Installing the pool wall

Place a thick board in the middle of yourground rail and place the rolled up sheetcasing on it (as shown in the picture).

CCaauuttiioonn:: the prepared cutouts for skimmerand intake nozzle must be at thetop!

Now unroll the steel wall slowly, inserting the steel casing into theground rail as it is released fromthe roll.

You must wear safety gloves!

Please make sure that the white-coated side ofthe swimming pool wall points to the outside(not for Metal-tec).

Note: put a few segments of the hand-rail in position to hold the steel casingprovisionally during the installation pro-cess. Once the steel casing has beeninstalled and inserted in the ground rail, compensate for any possible differ-ences in length between the ground railand the steel casing at the ground rail.

Important:The skimmer cutout must be positioned in theright place (see optimum water feed system:longitudinal flow or circular flow). Consult yourswimming pool expert first.

3.5 Connecting the ends of the steelcasing with the slot-in profile

Once the complete steel casing (5) has beeninserted in the ground rail, connect the twoends of the steel casing with the slot-in profile(6) (see drawing). Please ensure that the rebateof the steel casing fits properly in the slot-in pro-file. It must be possible to slide the profile (6)down over the rebate. It may help to move theends of the steel casing gently back and forth.

The slot-in profile (6) must never be put onincorrectly or by use of force. This damages thewall and reduces the stability of the swimmingpool.

3.6 Fitting the inner cover foil

Climb into the swimming pool using a ladder(wear rubber boots or go bare foot) and placethe inner cover foil on the middle of the swim-ming pool floor.

Now start to spread the foil out from the middleto the outside so that there is even spacing be-tween the floor/wall and the seam whichconnects the bottom with the sides.

NNoottee:: the inner cover is produced to beundersized, i.e. it is slightly smaller thanthe sheet casing. This is the only way toavoid possible folds in the foil, but theycannot be prevented completely. However, this does not constitute anyquality impairment and has no effect onthe service life of the foil. Because thefoil is undersized, the piping has to bestretched when fitting the foil; morewhen the weather is cold, and lesswhen it is warm.

A. Fitting the inner cover foil with conventional piping.Evenly lift the wall section of the pool innercover (7) and fit it to the steel casing (5) withthe piping (11). To keep the steel casing (5)round and secure the piping (11), place ahandrail profile (8) in position afterwards. Nowcontinue in the same way until all the innercover (7) has been fitted. Any slanting foldswhich now appear on the surface can be dealt

B.1. Fitting the inner cover foil with wedgepiping and special profile.

Advantages:•Easier procedure: steel casing is immediately

stable.•Edge stones can be placed directly on the

handrail.•Slanting folds can be dealt with easily be-

cause the wedge piping can be movedhorizontally.

Put the special profile (12) on the steel casing(5) and fit the handrail (8) on top (see nextchapter). The steel casing now stands firmly sothat the following steps are much easier.

Now slide the wedge piping (13) of the poolinner cover (7) into the chamber of the specialprofile (12) until the entire inner cover has beenfitted in position.

Press the first segment onto the edge of theswimming pool over the fitting profile or specialprofile. Then fit the second segment of handrailexactly onto the first segment using the connec-tion tube. Continue until the entire handrail hasbeen completed. Adjust the precise length usingthe provided partial piece of handrail or bysawing the handrail with a hacksaw.

Once all handrail segments have been fitted onthe edge of the swimming pool, knock the indi-vidual handrail pieces onto the swimming poolwall using your hand or a rubber mallet. If gapshave appeared between the segments duringthe installation process, please loosen the hand-rail again and push the segments closertogether.

3.8 Filling the swimming pool

Check that the inner cover foil fits properly.Remove any possible folds on the floor of theswimming pool. Now let some water into theswimming pool. Once the water is approx. 2cm deep, you can smooth out any remaining lit-tle folds with a brush or using your feet.

Now let water into the swimming pool, filling itgradually.

3.9 Backfilling the pool wall

Caution: sand, grit or other free-flowing material must never beused for backfilling the swimmingpool installed fully in the ground. We always recommend a layer oflean concrete approx. 20 cmthick as backfilling.

3.10 Equipotential bonding

DIN 57100 (Part 702) and VDE (Part 702)stipulate equipotential bonding for swimmingpools. To this end, the provided parts can beused, for example, according to the followingdrawing.

Protect connection parts from corrosion(varnish) when exposed to moisture.

5 Steel casing 14 Equipotential bonding15 To the earthing16 Equipotential bonding cable 17 Nut, lock washer, plain washer, nut,

lock washer18 Screw

Please note that the backfilling must be installedgradually as the pool is filled with water. This isparticularly important when using lean concretefor backfilling. Concrete is far heavier thanwater, so that there is a risk of the concretebackfilling causing dents in the pool if it is instal-led too quickly. The backfilling material mustnot be vibrated nor stamped in, because other-wise this will damage the steel casing (dentingon the inside).

Important! Please note:

Do not install the fitted componentssuch as skimmer or nozzles, which en-tail cutting the corresponding openingsin the foil, until the water level comesup to just below the level of the fittedparts.

4. Instructions

4.1 Important when emptying the pool

If the swimming pool is to be emp-tied and cleaned, it should berefilled again preferably on thesame day. Otherwise there is arisk particularly during badweather (rain) of the backfillingshifting and deforming the steelcasing.

When using a pump to empty theswimming pool, make sure thatthe water is drained at a gooddistance and certainly not allow-ed to seep into the ground in theimmediate vicinity of the swim-ming pool.

4.2 Repairs

Damage to the pool inner cover can be dealtwith easily using a repair kit. Please complywith the instructions enclosed with the repair kit.

If the paintwork on the swimming pool steelcasing is damaged, please repair the damageusing commercially available paint suitable foroutdoor conditions.

4.3 Winter storage

Swimming pools which have been partly orcompletely installed in the ground can survivethe winter full of water. All parts of the swim-ming pool are elastic enough to withstand theweather conditions.

Please note:

Before the frost period starts, remove all fitted parts such asskimmers and filter systems. If theskimmers or nozzles have beenpermanently installed, lower thewater level accordingly. Pleasealso remove the swimming poolladder before the frost periodstarts. It is advisable to protect the swim-ming pool with a tarpaulin cover.

To avoid unnecessary cleaning work in thespring, we recommend the use of a winter pro-tection agent. This winter protection agent issimply added to the swimming pool water andprevents limescale and dirt from settling on thepool inner lining; it also prevents algae forma-tion in the water. This makes the next springcleaning much easier in your swimming pool.
