PREPARING FOR THE NEW ROTARY YEAR Club Leadership Assembly
Here we are in March and we are already preparing for the upcoming Rotary year which begins July 1, 2016. Such is the Rotary cycle, which gives each club, and our organization as a whole, the opportunity for new leadership each year.
Coming up first is the CLUB LEADERSHIP ASSEMBLY that it is all about the CLUBS! This is the chance for the Club Leadership Team for the year beginning July 1, 2016, future leaders, and other interested Rotarians to attend, along with their President Elect, to gain information, share ideas
and to start the process of planning and goal setting.
We have revamped the session offerings to capture what your Club Leadership Team would like to know. In addition to traditional offerings for Presidents-Elect, Secretaries and Treasurers, we will offer 25 focused sessions. Topics will include: Engaging Emerging Leaders--developing your Club's toolbox; How to Use Rotary's Voice and Visual Image to benefit your Club; New Youth Programs--Most Improved Student; Girls Who Code and Club Learning Chair--putting the new Club position into Action. Each 60-minute session will be independent so that you can pick and choose the topics that
are most meaningful to you.
Club roundtables at the end of the day are a “keeper” to give your Club Leadership Team the chance to debrief the great ideas of the day, and to share input on where the President Elect and Team see the Club going in the next year. Alternatively there will be a few optional sessions to end the day: additional tech sessions, roundtable for small clubs to share ideas, and Vision to Action Skills workshop to help you bring those great ideas into reality.
Plan now to attend the Club Leadership Assembly on Saturday, April 9, 2015 at the Atlantis Resort in Reno. Registration is open at the Rotary District 5190 website.

In My WordsThe Four Way Test of the things we think, say or do is a test Rotarians use as a moral code for personal and business relationships. The test was scripted by Herbert J. Taylor from Chicago as he set out to save the Club Aluminum Products Distribution Company from bankruptcy. In the 1940s, when Taylor served as international director of Rotary he offered the Four Way Test to the organization and it was adopted by Rotary for its international and promotional use. Never changed, the test remains today a central part of the permanent Rotary structure throughout the world, and is held as the standard by which all behavior should be measured.
The following Rotarians tell what the Four Way Test means to them:
First, is it the Truth? Truth is an undeniable fact; it is reality and it is pure. Unless it is chosen you cannot be free. Jim Cavasso
Second, is it fair to all concerned? Life isn’t fair; fair is something you go to in September. All I know is that if I try to make things equitable for others it will make my life better. Dick Read
Third, will it build goodwill and better friendships? Life is full of decisions! How a Rotarian handles those decision is key to the character of the person making those decisions. Human nature is to have the upper hand or the deal of your life after the decision. Is the decision going to build that human bond on the other side of the transaction? Often times the best decisions of my life have been to give more than I received. Remember, no one can take away what you give. Walt Davis
Fourth, is it beneficial to all concerned? Will our actions as a club benefit those we desire to help? Jeanne Cain.
Carol SharpPublic Image Chair, Rotary Club of Alturas
BE THE ONEClub Presidents - please assign a member of your Club to be your District Conference Champion to help promote our wonderful District Conference. Each Sunday leading up to the District Conference your Conference Champion will be emailed a flyer to announce and to place on tables at your weekly meetings.
Assigned Champions - contact Brandy Rosse at [email protected] to let her know you are your club's point of contact. If a Champion does not contact Brandy, flyers will continue to be emailed to Presidents.
It is going to be a great conference and we would like to get as many Rotarians to attend as possible!! Thank you!

Digital X-Ray Project CompletedThe Rotary Club of Tahoe Incline is pleased to announce the completion of its Global Grant to install a digital x-ray system at Kagondo St. Joseph Hospital in northwest Tanzania. The $42,000 project was co-sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Solvang, CA, Santa Ynez, CA and Anthem, AZ, and several individual members of our Rotary club.
Digital x-ray has become the world standard for imaging even in developing nations because there are no chemicals or film to be disposed of, or an expensive developing system to be maintained. The initial expense is significant but the costs are quickly offset by the
inexpensive system that uses computerized images.
St Joseph Hospital has three remote viewing stations, one of which is connected to a TV set in their conference room.
St Joseph Hospital is located in the Kagera Provence of Tanzania near the Uganda Border. The main occupation is agricultural but the poverty level in the area is the highest in Tanzania. Malnutrition is not a problem there, but there is little money left over for health care. As better roads are built with increasing traffic, the incidence of motor vehicle accidents (MVA) is rising rapidly. Motorcycles acting as taxi’s are a major cause of accident victims entering St. Joseph hospital. In developing nations throughout the world deaths from (MVA) now exceed the combined death totals from malaria and tuberculosis. St Joseph Hospital has become the trauma center for about one million people who live in the area.
