Postdoctoral Associate, MIT and Harvard University, USA Mar 11 – Current • Led a group of 5 students in the areas of nanomaterials, hydrogels, electrospinning, and microfabrication. • Designed and developed bioinspired microfabricated nanomaterials for tissue engineering. Directed
differentiation of human bone marrow-‐derived mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC) using ceramic nanoparticles within (a) Gelatin nanocomposites hydrogels, (b) polyethylene oxide/polybutylene terephthalate (PEO/PBT) electrospun fibers loaded with dexamethasone, and (c) polycaprolactone-‐nanoclay elextrospun fibers.

• Conceptualized and developed photocrosslinked hydrogels from (a) kappa-‐carrageenan (natural polymers) and (b) hyperbranced polyester hydrogels. Utilized microfabrication techniques such as micropatterning, and micromolding to spatially organize cells within the scaffold structure.
• Developed (a) poly(glycerol sabacate)-‐ carbon nanotubes and (b) poly(glycerol sabacate)-‐silicate nanocomposites for soft tissue applications. Also conceptualized and coordinated fabrication of poly(glycerol sabacate) nanoparticles for sustain delivery of growth factors for bone regeneration.
Research Assistant, Purdue University, USA (Journal articles: 12 published, 1 book chapter) Aug 07 -‐ Feb 11 • Thesis: “Design and Development of Polymer Nanocomposites for Repair of Orthopedic Tissues” • Developed and optimized silicate cross-‐linked poly (ethylene oxide) nanocomposites for control cell
adhesion, proliferation and differentiation. Established a strong correlation between physical, chemical and biological properties of the nanocomposite biomaterials.
• Conceptualized, synthesized and investigated photo cross-‐linked elastomeric nanocomposite hydrogels with a range in mechanical and structural properties.
• Developed highly extensible fibrous nanocomposites for directional cell growth. • Successfully augmented mechanical and cell adhesion properties of silicate nanocomposites by
incorporating natural polymers (chitosan and dextran).
DAAD Visiting Research Scholar, RWTH Aachen, Germany (Journal articles: 3) Sept 05 -‐ May 06 • Project: “Thermoresponsive Microgels for Drug Delivery Applications” • Proposed and demonstrated modification of nanoparticle surface using a layer-‐by-‐layer assembly of
polyelectrolyte multilayers. This was the first attempt in the field to provide proof of the concept that a layer-‐by-‐layer technique can be applied to nanoparticles.
• Designed and assembled magnetic nanoparticles on thermoresponsive poly(N-‐isopropylacrylamide) microgel using layer-‐by-‐layer technique. Optimized and fine-‐tuned the properties of individual components before assembling into a hybrid core–shell structure.
Graduate Research Assistant, IIT-‐B, India (Journal article: 1) Jul 04 -‐ Aug 05 & Jun 06 – May 07 • Thesis: “Encapsulated Magnetic Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications” • Developed biocompatible stimuli-‐responsive core-‐shell nanoparticles for biotechnological applications.
Utilized a facile two-‐step approach to covalently bind thermoresponsive hydroxypropyl cellulose to magnetic nanoparticles core, thereby imparting a core-‐shell structure to the system.
Research Intern, National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore Dec 04 -‐ Jan 05 • Developed magnesium based composite reinforced with nano-‐copper. Successfully augmented the
mechanical properties of magnesium based composite by incorporating nano-‐copper and studied fractured mechanism using SEM and tensile machine.
