In 2008, Twitter released its search API, which allowed third parties to read and write Twitter messages with minimal coding in nearly any programming language. An independent developer built TweetDeck, a new app based on Twitter’s API, with a better user interface that led to an explosion in Twitter usage. Twitter acquired TweetDeck in 2011 for £25M, thus making the twitter offering evolve with market demand.
