Emerson Gattafoni’s most recent challenge was extremeadventure motorcycling. A trip to the Roof of the World,one of the most inaccessible, yet most enthralling andmagical places on Earth. ‘On the Road’ director Gattafoniwas accompanied by Claudio Cardelli of the Italy-TibetAssociation. The pair rode 5,000 km on two Pegaso 650i.e.’s, specially prepared by Aprilia’s Experience Section,through awe-inspiring scenery, breathtaking peaks andmajestic high plains to the highest road in the world at analtitude of 5,680 metres. Gattafoni and Cardelli set outfrom New Delhi and rode over an immense plain beforetaking on impenetrable climbs and frightening precipicesthrough the world’s highest passes, past the "Lung-Ta" or"wind horses", multi-coloured votive flags, into legendaryTibet, to deliver the Global World Foundation’scontribution to the children’s village in Leh and to meetwith the smile, serenity, and infinite wisdom of hisholiness the Dalai Lama. Only Pegaso, the winged horse,could fly so high!

Aprilia has drawn on the riding experience of Emerson Gattafoni andthe skill of Aprilia’s enduro design team to create the Pegaso TuscanyTibet Raid, the most adventurous enduro in its class. Just like thePegaso 650 i.e., this special version is the reference machine in themedium size enduro market, the highest expression of single cylinderon-off road technology. And the smoothness and power, riding pleasureand comfort of the naturally versatile Pegaso 650 i.e. have beenenhanced by special modifications to suspensions and othercomponents and by the addition of protective global touringaccessories to transform every trip on this machine into a motorcyclingadventure.

NEW LOOK AND SETUP

Essential and streamlined, yet with bags of unmistakable personality,the Pegaso Tuscany Tibet Raid is the outcome of detailed researchinto motorcycling ergonomics and man-machine integration. ThePegaso Tuscany Tibet Raid guarantees comfort and safety for riderand passenger, even on the longest journeys.

The new raised seat makes it easier to move when riding offroad, andhelps you switch between sitting and standing positions. The PegasoTuscany Tibet Raid is also equipped with a new cockpit fairing withlarger windshield for improved protection from the wind, turbulenceand rain, in line with the bike’s improved aerodynamics andoutstanding spirit of adventure.

The expansion chamber exclusive to this version is also housed insidethe cockpit fairing, to improve ground clearance and allow you tomonitor coolant level from the riding position. Just like professionalenduro machines, the handlebars of the Pegaso Tuscany Tibet Raidhave a cross bar that you can use to customise your motorcycle and to install additional instruments like compasses and road books.

The front suspension is 26 mm longer to permit limitless off-roaduse. The Marzocchi 45 mm hydraulic fork is longer than on the basicversion and gives a higher riding position. The fork is speciallycalibrated to deliver a perfect mix of comfort, control and dampingunder all conditions, from motorway to camel track. The rear suspension is 25 mm longer too, and the monoshock’s springpreload can now be adjusted at any time from a conveniently locatedknob to keep suspension setup permanently in line with ridingconditions. The braking system features special rubber brake hoseswith a brand new core design for a more precise feel and improvedbraking control on difficult surfaces. Maximum grip is ensured on andoff the road by homologated knobbly tyres.

The Pegaso Tuscany Tibet Raid is special in its finish too, andfaithfully reproduces the machines used for Emerson Gattafoni’s Tibettrip. The bike’s aggressive, adventurous look is enhanced by dedicatedtravel accessories like the original 30 litre aluminium top boxcomplete with mounting rack, handle and lock, bearing the logo ofthe ride to the Roof of the World.

PEGASO I.E.

The Pegaso 650 i.e. is the only motorcycle inits class to boast such advanced technology.Its engine is the world’s most sophisticatedproduction single, with five radial valves,electronic fuel injection, and two 34 mmthrottle bodies and manifold injection. Enginemanagement is totally electronic. An advancedsystem of electronic sensors monitor the crankand engine, air inlet temperature, filter boxvacuum, coolant temperature and throttleposition for perfect fuel injection and snatch-free power delivery. The engine managementsystem ensures silky smooth power, giving easycontrol even at low engine speeds while alsoincreasing maximum engine torque. Theelectronic control unit detects throttle openingand closing movements and works inconjunction with Aprilia’s exclusive DIAC(Dynamic Ignition Advance Control) system toadapt fuel injection parameters to ridingconditions, even compensating for changes inaltitude.

The powerful and instantaneous brakingsystem features Brembo stainless steel disksfor maximum braking efficiency at all timesand under all conditions. Safety is further enhanced by a special sensorthat shuts off the fuel supply and stops theengine in the event of a fall. Finally, the catalysed exhaust system conformsto Euro 1 emission control standards andreduces noise to a bare minimum to ensurethat you reach all your destinations in comfortand with respect for the environment.
