Region-Lowland or Amazon Type or Rainy Tropics
1) Location – 0 to 5 degrees N & S of equator2) Areas or Countries-Amazon Basin, Congo Basin,
Ghana, Malaysia & Indonesia3) Climate-Hot and wet throughout the year4) Natural Vegetation-Dense, evergreen hard wood
forests with tall trees having creepers on them5) Animal Life-Tree Climbing animals, creeping animals.
Scarcity of domestic animals

Equatorial LowlandHuman Occupation-Hunting, Fishing, Collecting
Fruit, Migratory Subsistence Farming, Plantation farming in developed areas
Economic Development-Backward area due to hostile climate, dense forests, leached soil, lack of communication S-E Asia an exception

Equatorial Highlands Location-0 – 5 degrees but at higher
elevationsCountries-Ecuador and other highlands
along the equatorClimate-Mild, cool and pleasant rainfall
throughout the yearNatural Vegetation-Evergreen forests but
not thick

Equatorial HighlandsAnimal life-Cattle, Goats and LlamasHuman Occupation-Agriculture and
animal rearingEconomic Development- Backward due to
lack of transportation and sparse population

Tropical Region-Tropical Monsoon1) Location – 18 to 25 degrees along
eastern margins of land masses2) Countries-India/Bangladesh/Burma/
Thailand/Indo-china/Philippine Island/S.China/Central America/West Indies/Venezulea and Columbia E.Queensland N. Australia coast land.

Tropical MonsoonClimate-Hot and wet in summers and warm to hot and
dry in winters. Rainfall uncertain and unevenly distributed.
Natural Vegetation-Depends on rainfall (a) dense evergreen forests (b) deciduous monsoon forests © scrub lands and Mangrove forests
Animal Life-Large number of domestic and wild animals like cattle, sheep, goats, horses, elephants, tigers and lions
Human Occupation-agriculture supports 70% of population. Mining & manufacturing developed in some areas

Tropical Regions (contd..)Tropical Monsoons-Economic Development-Backward
industrially excepting India & China where cotton textiles, iron and steel and other industries are developed. Political freedom in the recent past augers development.
Tropical Grassland or Sudan Type-5 to 20 degrees including mostly table lands away from sea.
www.StudsPlanet.com
Tropical Grasslands or Sudan Type Countries-Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia, Angola, Plateau of
Brazil, and Guiana: Western plains of queensland Climate-Hot tropical with moderate rainfall in summer.
Rainfall uncertain Natural Vegetation-Tropical grass growing to height of
300-360 cm unsuitable for feeding domestic animals. Also scattered trees.
Animals-Lion,Tiger,Leopard, Wolf, Giraffes, Zebra, Antelopes and Deers. Domestic animals not generally found.

Tropical Grasslands-Sudan TypeHuman Occupation-Hunting, Agriculture in
irrigated areas, mining & manufacturing based on agricultural products
Economic Development-Thinly populated due to water scarcity, but bright future if irrigation facilities are provided and minerals are fully exploited
www.StudsPlanet.com
Tropical DesertsLocation-18 to 32 degrees along the western margins of
the continentCountries-Principal deserts of the world namely Sahara,
Somali, Kalahari, Arabian, Thar, Arizona, Colarado, Peruvian, Atacama and Great Australian Deserts
Climate-Extremely dry annual rainfall less than 5 cm Days extremely hot nights cool and cold. Climate modified along the sea coast
www.StudsPlanet.com
Tropical DesertsVegetation-Scrub vegetation has adapted itself to dry
climateAnimal Life-Horned toad, Gila Monster, and Gazelle
typical native animal. Domestic animals like camel, horse, mule, donkey, sheep, goats
Agriculture-Nomadic herdings, agriculture in the oasis and river valleys and mining
Economic Development-Thinly populated due to water scarcity but bright future if irrigation facilities are provided and minerals are fully exploited

Tropical Rain Forests1) Location-Tropical Islands & Eastern Costal Strips within
the tropics on both sides2) Countries-Islands around the Caribbean sea,
Venezuela and Brazil, costal margins of East Africa, Eastern Malagasy, Coasts of Queens land and the Hawaii Island
3) Hot and humid throughout the year. Rainfall heavy in summer but moderate in winter. Oceanic influence makes climate mild and pleasant.
www.StudsPlanet.com
Tropical Rain ForestsVegetation-Dense evergreen forest but not as
dense as equatorial forests. Also lesser undergrowth.
Occupation-Agriculture, fishing and tourism. Mining and manufacturing still undeveloped
Economic Development-Densely populated because of suitability for Agriculture. Agricultural products main item of exports. Backward in mining and manufacturing due to lack of capital and technical know-how.
As also due to ease in cultivating land. www.StudsPlanet.com
