8th Annual Edward Lowe FoundationYoung Entrepreneurs Day

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

Event celebrates the achievement of southwest Michigan’s youngest entrepreneurs

Students from Berrien and Van Buren counties will share their entrepreneurial ideas with members of the business community during the 8th Annual Edward Lowe Foundation Young Entrepreneurs Day. The event, which is coordinated by Berrien Regional Education Service Agency, Van Buren Intermediate School District and Lake Michigan College and is sponsored by the Edward Lowe Foundation, will showcase student business plans through interactive sessions with experts in the business field. The event will also allow students to gain insight on how they can take their plans from the classroom to the business world.

The event is the result of the Entrepreneurship program that is offered through Career & Technical Education (CTE), a collection of 71 courses that are available to students in 12 school districts and three Lake Michigan College campuses. Thanks to a partnership with Lake Michigan College, students who participate in the entrepreneurship experience will also have the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school.

Coinciding with the business plan presentations is Portfolio Day, an opportunity for high school students to share their accomplishments with portfolio assessors. This review allows students to practice their interview skills and highlight their academic achievements. For some students, the assessment is a requirement for graduation.

Additionally, student seminars will be offered. Seminar topics include: Building Your Resume, Creating Online; Dining Etiquette; Team Building; Tips, Tricks and a Taxi Ride to Successful Resume Writing; and the Full College Experience.

All events will take place at Lake Michigan College’s Napier Avenue Campus and the Mendel Center, both located at 2755 E. Napier Avenue in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Assessments and seminars will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 12:55 p.m.Media is encouraged to attend the event.

Every second Saturday in May letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America deliver much more than mail when they walk and drive along their postal routes. They also collect the goodness and compassion of their postal customers who participate in the NALC Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive – the largest one-day food drive in the nation and probably the world.
