FYLDE riOUI^lTAlNSERING CLUB flARCH, 1 9 8 7 . NEWSLETTER FILTHY RICH AND CATFLAPS Another year swirls av;ay and it's time again for that big night in the club calendar - The A^Gciioo The faithful gather round the stage to hear our chairman, r-lro Earle, strike off last year and usher us into a new oneo All's going well, I.thought, until he slagged off the News- letter! That's iti . I'm not writing any more! I'll find someone else to do the job I Little did 1 know that I v/ould be blogged later to carry on writing these very pageso The meeting progressed at a good pace, as did the ale guzzlingo The first thing to crop up was that you may v;ell find the minutes of the AGil enclosed with this publication^ George Parker then brought up the subject of Fire Doors at Stairo These could be in the form of Big Cat Flaps! Some- oijte suggested that they would have to be BIG, as there were c»bainly some BIG CATS in the FilC! "So long as they were big el^pugh for Steve Sv/indells they'd be OK" I thought, recalling tne incident a few years ago v/hen Steve, returning home from a night on the town had lost his key^ The only ivay in was through the cat flapo Steve was found halfway through the flap, fast asleep •"jbviously finished off by his effortso The next thing I knew Kule 8 was getting some stick; what- ever Rule 0 is? Then followed the election 01 officers and hopefully a beer break! ; No controversy here, but I was a bit worried by the reappoint- ment of the Club Secretary, having caught him on a number of occasions trying to got into the wrong room clutching armfuls of of ale! Mew names wore Kevin Stephens, hut secretary at Little Langdale; John Hickman at Stair and Louise Fortune, taking over as Social Secretary from a very impressive Donald Ducko God help her trying to iteep you lot happy on a V/ednesday evenings An imenviable task! Four nev/ committee members took their seats - Pete Soscoe (nev/?), Dave \/ood, Don Nichol and Cherry Earlo. The Treasurer,Paul Taylor, declared the Club still'stink.ing rich'and then proceeded to propose an increase in club fees! Obviously to fund his increasingly frequent trips abroado Hearing this cheering news, the meeting began to dole out the club's money to various expeditions, guide books, member- ship cards, toe and sweat shirts etc! Several people felt loft out! i-lick Tolley appealed for some dosh for new caving equipment and Dave Clark enquired about more coach meets» V/e were reminded tha.t club car stickers were still available and that the Club Dinner would again 'happen' at the Old Dungeon Ghyllo Kevin appealed for names for the proposed Preston Climbing Wall v/hich definitely looks like happeningc It was 1 0 o 5 5 5 last orders and the meeting was brought to a closoo 'Not bad' as they go, I thought, as I headed for that last pint. The end of another club year and the beginning of . a new era= As I walked dov/n the stairs I passed the Secretary - arms full of beer, still trying to get into that room! Martin Dale
